Tasted by rjmp96 on 8/2/2023 & rated 93 points: I first had this one at a restaurant in Boston a few years back. Consumed my three over three years. Great showing from this wine. (324 views)
Tasted by Alex Barbera on 6/26/2022 & rated 94 points: Druck Druck Druck (1046 views)
Tasted by Alex Barbera on 2/12/2022 & rated 94 points: Hach… Will Luft und große Gläser und ungeteilte Aufmerksamkeit - dann fliegt er…. (1336 views)
Tasted by rjmp96 on 2/5/2022 & rated 92 points: Gorgeous classic aged napa nose. Dried cherry & currant fruit enveloped by bramble, green tobacco, cedar, earl grey, espresso and cocoa powder. Quite a mouthful still, with good flavors and mouthfeel across the palate. Quite delicious and shows the staying power of napa but the finish is drying up, especially compared to last bottle. This one is definitely on the downswing. Still great though. Hopefully just bottle variation but I’ll probably be drinking my last asap. (1146 views)
Tasted by pmik on 3/31/2021 & rated 93 points: Vinnørd (1774 views)
Tasted by redwiner on 7/4/2020 & rated 93 points: Still going strong for such a soft Napa C/S. Nice fruits and great balance. (1740 views)
Tasted by pmik on 5/18/2020 & rated 93 points: Cab tasting with Korsholm. Still very alive and at peak. Winner of the evening. (1488 views)
Tasted by rjmp96 on 4/13/2020 & rated 93 points: Bottle in great condition, good fill, perfect cork. Youthful color, slight bricking. Right off the bat, you get tons of tertiary notes of compost, sandalwood, dried black currant, mushroom, pepper and a little green vegetables as well. Some roasted coffee & olive peek out on the back half. Tannins are fully resolved, acidity is still surprisingly fresh, but the fruit is a little faded. With some air the palate becomes rich with black fruits, leather and licorice. A complex wine. Prob toeing the edge but still drinking very nicely. Will be drinking my last two in the next year or so. 96% Cab w 3.5% Merlot and a touch of PV. 22 months in French oak. 3893 cases made. (1250 views)
Tasted by ACR16719 on 5/6/2015 & rated 89 points: unfortunately past its prime. Starting to break down, was a great wine I'm sure (4508 views)
Tasted by Ridgerunner on 5/12/2013 & rated 94 points: This is the silky sister to SLV, cask, etc. And, I would forever argue that it's delicacy makes it superior! I have always loved the wine from this hallowed ground! (6607 views)
Tasted by Daniellegibbons on 11/2/2012: Stored for years in my wine fridge....too many years...:( had to throw away!!!:((((( (7473 views)
Tasted by twoamps on 3/20/2012 & rated 94 points: held up great. A worthy cabernet that aged Gracefully, with no compromises. Great fruit, nicely layered, some earth and leather, and a mellow but not hollow finish. The other bottle can go another few years if needed. (5965 views)
Tasted by saturnaisland on 2/4/2012 & rated 87 points: Overall, my impression was that it was slightly disappointing. Nice aromas - hints of dark fruit and graphite. Flavours were fairly smooth and mellow. Hints of dark fruit and strong tea, but overall a bit muddy. Sadly, it doesn't live up to the competition from France at this price point. (8101 views)
Tasted by M5 on 8/8/2011: My rating system...

Tasted by bhalljr on 5/21/2010 & rated 91 points: Nice nose but the fruit was somewhat buried by the alcohol still. Seemed to be missing something. Not a bad overall bottle with a great nose. No Hartwell '99, though. (5198 views)
Tasted by kgh on 4/28/2010 & rated 94 points: Nice ruby color and pure cab aromas. Soft supple texture with fruit flavors still prominent but somewhat faded. This has aged very nicely in to a mature cab, and is ready to drink. (4731 views)
Tasted by Gonzorg on 9/23/2009 & rated 95 points: Drinking very nice. Great bouqet and nice ruby red color. Very soft tannins, nice fruit with a great velvet finish. Drink soon. (5101 views)
Tasted by mcneil7 on 9/7/2009 & rated 90 points: The wine was nice from the bottle decanting was not needed, most of the tanis are gone. Wine was smooth showing some fruit with spice notes of oak and cassis. Pleasant wine ready ow. (5019 views)
Tasted by Phin on 5/14/2009 & rated 88 points: WS Grand Tour - Average, light red, bland. (5493 views)
Tasted by Brett on 2/21/2009 & rated 92 points: Loved it!! (5433 views)
Tasted by Tac on 9/24/2008 & rated 90 points: Decent and enjoyed. Will open the others I have and know that it will be quite good. (5591 views)
Tasted by jsander on 3/24/2008 & rated 90 points: Integrated tannins, good fruit. drinking well. (5953 views)
Tasted by louisl on 11/9/2007 & rated 93 points: Very elegant. Nice young fruit on the nose. The flavors are subtle, but nice fruit and soft integrated tannins. Should still improve with another 2 years. (6460 views)
Tasted by bmarshall on 10/28/2007 & rated 88 points: Decent, but a little disappointing. Dark purple color. Dark fruits and leather on the nose and palate, but it was a little disjointed and seemed slightly past peak. (6355 views)

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars

Producer website
NOTE: This is easily confused with Stags' Leap Winery, but Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is a different winery. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is considered one of Napa Valley's first-growths. "We were founded by Warren Winiarski and his family in 1970 and are best known for our estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons — CASK 23, S.L.V., and FAY. Over the years, our wines have become some of the most highly regarded and collected wines worldwide. They are fashioned to express classic elegance, structure, and ageability, and to reflect the place in which they are grown." Stag's Leap Wine Cellars was known only in the Napa Valley until the now-famous 1976 Paris Tasting, when Winiarski's 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon, the first wine produced at the new winery, bested four top-ranked Bordeaux entries, including first-growths Château Mouton-Rothschild and Château Haut-Brion. The tasting landed Stag's Leap Wine Cellars squarely among the ranks of the world's most noteworthy Cabernet producers and placed Winiarski among the ranks of world's most respected winemakers. It also fundamentally transformed how Californian wines were viewed worldwide [StagsLeap See details here].

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
