(3173 views) | | Tasted by Mark Larson on 10/1/2011 & rated 87 points: Somewhat underwhelming. Will save the other bottle to see if it improves with age. (3600 views) | | Tasted by Grape_ape on 6/21/2010 & rated 88 points: Popped and poured through a vinturri into the glasss. Nice nose with red fruit, primarily strawberry, with some black pepper and a hint of vanilla. Palate reveals less fruit than the nose suggests, and it kind of tight.. red fruit, little papper, a bit tannic on the finish, but not giving much. Opened up more towards the end of the bottle. Advise an hour decant at least, but don't think this is the greatest QPR.. (4357 views) | | Tasted by Grape_ape on 5/4/2010 flawed bottle: perhaps one of the most horribly corked bottles I have ever come across... (4414 views) | | Tasted by DRod on 4/6/2010 & rated 89 points: Very consistent with my last experience, the nose is intoxicating, the palate less so. At 26 bucks at Wine Library there are perhaps better values to be had out there, but that doesn't take away from the fact that this is a very nice wine. (4578 views) | | Tasted by CaliCab on 3/9/2010 & rated 88 points: Nice little wine. Oaky nose - chocolate and wood, roast nuts. Almost a hint of strawberry on the nose, and plum. A little of everything on the nose, actually pretty interesting. Some dirt, and forest floor, tobacco. Even a little nutmeg and spicebox - but I'm reaching for something now that I can't place. The palate is hard core blueberry. Good sweet fruits, and thick mouthfeel - I'm going to guess it at 14% ABV (after looking, label reads 13% but I think that is low). Some heavy tannins come through after a glass or so, but they remain hidden earlier on. Enough acidity to keep it from being flabby, but not enough to make me think this has a lot of years to go. Drink up. Some real heat on the back end supports my feeling that the ABV is higher than stated.
All in all, pretty darn enjoyable. Palate is a little mundane after a really nice bouquet. (2475 views) | | Tasted by DRod on 3/3/2010 & rated 89 points: Dark red, mostly opaque in the glass. A good deal of mustiness on the nose that has mostly blown over after an hour and change in the decanter. Also very pleasant cherry on the nose and I dig it. On the palate a medium-bodied, high-acid mouthfeel. Slightly more subdued notes of cherry than the nose would suggest, with a finish of sticky tannins. Really nice balance on this wine. 89-90 points. (2485 views) | | Tasted by NickGil on 10/25/2009 & rated 85 points: Soft and great taste. (2472 views) | | Tasted by Pedro G on 10/23/2007 & rated 90 points: Cereja intenso, aroma potente a fruta com toques de madeira, boca carnoso, com taninos suaves, facil de beber e bastante equilibrado (3148 views) |

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net
Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.Catalunya Map on weinlagen-info |
