| Community Tasting Notes (average 84 pts. and median of 85 pts. in 5 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by DTWOB on 12/22/2009 & rated 88 points: Relatively light brickish color with medium intense nose of heat, cherries and leather. Light mouth feel with velvet tannins and mild fruit. Not a whole lot of complexity or depth, but great balance with what it did have - nothing overpowering, a nice sit and sip drink. Food would overpower this bottle. Finish lacked depth and was abrupt. Overall a nice QPR - would buy it again. (2133 views) | | Tasted by ocattorney on 12/18/2009 & rated 77 points: Nose of bourbon. Real thin wine with some rustic character. Some red fruit and tobacco. It had some firm tannins but on day 2 the wine completely fell apart. 1/2 bottle down the drain. (2210 views) | | Tasted by BeachMBA on 6/28/2008 & rated 86 points: Nice and fruity. Got this at a Reno wine store for a ski trip, and never drank it. Nothing special, but good for a cheap Barbera. Better on day 2. (2151 views) | | Tasted by DrewWyman on 1/12/2008 & rated 85 points: Nose had a strong alcohol taint (almost smelled like a Tawny Port) to it, initially the wine did as well but that changed after letting it get some air. Not a bad choice for the price. Mild tannins and decent palate. (2257 views) | | Tasted by Ombibulous on 5/17/2007 & rated 84 points: The cork is artificial and in good condition. The colour is relatively dark. The aroma is not strong. The flavour is good though. Well balanced -- not too tannic. But not too much fruit. Reasonable value for under $10. Good. (2588 views) |
| Terre da Vino Producer websiteBarbera Varietal character (Appellation America) Varietal character (Wikipedia German) Varietal character (Wikipedia English) Barbera is a red wine variety, originally from Italy, which is best known as the second-most important Piedmontese variety after Nebbiolo. The wines made of this grape are mainly the everyday drinking wines of the region. The main appellations producing Barbera are Asti and Alba.
Barbera - The most widely grown red wine grape of Piedmont and Southern Lombardy, most famously around the towns of Asti and Alba, and Pavia. The wines of Barbera were once simply "what you drank while waiting for the Barolo to be ready." With a new generation of wine makers, this is no longer the case. The wines are now meticulously vinified, aged Barbera gets the name "Barbera Superiore" (Superior Barbera), sometimes aged in French barrique becoming "Barbera Barricato", and intended for the international market. The wine has bright cherry fruit, a very dark color, and a food-friendly acidity.Italy Italian Wines (ItalianMade.com, The Italian Trade Commission) | Italian Wine Guide on the WineDoctorPiedmont Vignaioli Piemontesi (Italian only) On weinlagen-infoAsti Consorzio per la Tutela dell'Asti |
