Tasted by Dickdoc49 on 4/21/2024: Past its prime (78 views)
Tasted by thelostverse on 11/24/2023 & rated 90 points: This bottle brought by fut certainly travelled the longest distance to the dance. Allred's note about the celery seed and dark fruits is spot on. I got to this towards the end of the evening and my memories are a little foggy, but an enjoyable bottle for sure. (321 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 11/24/2023 & rated 92 points: Popped and poured, courtesy of Fut. Aromas of ripe dark fruit, celery seed and a touch of balsamic; delightful. The palate mirrors the bouquet with plenty of nicely ripe dark fruit and plum. Well balanced. No need to hold these any longer. 92+ pts. (365 views)
Tasted by wineloverkang on 6/10/2023 & rated 93 points: Beautiful wine. Maybe a bit too floral for me for a Brunello? (426 views)
Tasted by jc510 on 9/15/2022: Well stored excellent drinking wine. (855 views)
Tasted by Cellar Fiend on 6/5/2022 & rated 93 points: This was ready to go and unless they are in an absolute perfect cellar - it is time to drink up. I love Fuligni!!! (963 views)
Tasted by Valaprop on 9/16/2021 & rated 94 points: Opened 60 minutes before a steak dinner. Not decanted. Brilliant -- even better than the last bottle we had. One of the finest Brunellos I've had since the 1997 Costanti. Our guests, who mostly drink Cabernet-based wines, were blown away. Oddly, though it seemed "20 years young" while we enjoyed it during the meal, it did seem to get a bit tired about 2.5 to 3 hours after it was opened, so I would be wary of decanting or giving it hours of air before drinking.  Tasted by Paul D on 5/21/2021 & rated 94 points: At Noize, wtih AW, FC, CF. Intense, slightly brooding nose, darker cherry fruit, spice, touch of tomato. Full bodied, spicy dark fruit, generous with soft tannins, lovely vibrant acidity, very good length finish with a thread of fine tannin. Lovely. (1330 views)
Tasted by LFCHALA on 2/20/2021 & rated 94 points: Outstanding young wine (1421 views)
Tasted by edge on 1/1/2021 & rated 91 points: Decanted for 3 hours. Hints of pepper, black currant and graphite. Paired well with a spiced lamb shank. Drinking well. (1098 views)
Tasted by Valaprop on 10/24/2020 & rated 93 points: Opened two bottles about 1 hour before dinner. Both in excellent condition 19 years in. Beautiful accompaniment to NY Strips. Appears to be in its prime, should be delightful for several years to come. Everything in balance; I didn't detect the issue of oak overtaking fruit that were suggested in other reviews. I look forward to enjoying my remaining several bottles over the next few years. (1051 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 7/14/2020: Decanted for sediment after allowing 90 minutes to open in decanter. Fully mature, and still showing well. For my palate, it's on the back side of its preferred curve. Tangy red fruits, good+ spice, and mixed red/purple floral dominate. Good+ elegance, and balance. Drink thru 2024+. recommended

Tasted by Warren23 on 5/9/2020 & rated 91 points: Better right now than the 1999 Gaunoux Pommard Grand Epenots we had a week ago. Very approachable and pleasurable with great mouth feel and more fruit-forward notes of blackberry, blueberry, spice and oak with a shorter finish. 91-92. (1026 views)
Tasted by cmbond on 4/28/2020 & rated 92 points: Stood upright 24 hours, drank from Riedel Bdx glass
Clear + clean, garnet, slight brick at rim
No sediment in bottle at all
Nose of cherry, burnt soil/tuscan earth, graphite, cracked pepper and spice
Palate tart cherry, scorched earth, spice, tight grained wood finish. Med plus acid, medium tannin, long finish.
Paired with tomato+basil salad, gnocchi with mushroom/thyme and lamb shank. Best pairing was gnocchi, mushroom really enhanced both the wine and food, tomato+basil second best, lamb shank least good.

A very good wine and an excellent showing, preferred with food to on its own when it came off a tiny bit thin and acidic on the finish. Overall still great, 92-93 pts. Can still hold up to 5 years, but will probably encounter the standard riserva issue of excessive oak shining through over the fruit as time goes by. (1013 views)
Tasted by Vini Ciclismo on 12/31/2018 & rated 93 points: Very dark, black core, no hint of brick.
Dark fruits, cherry stone zest, earthy, underbrush, blueberry fragrance, an almost salty rich iron filings, dark and smokey.
Fleshy, ripe dark fruits, good acidity and fine firm tannins. Plenty of youth. Classic brunello, that cherry stone and blueberry punch, with a strong earthy undercurrent. A lovely smokey edge. Delicious. (1628 views)
Tasted by pavel_p on 7/26/2018 & rated 92 points: 45 min decant and drank over an hour. Enjoyed this Brunello more than my first bottle from an OC 12 months ago. This is still a rather reserved wine which displays a certain elegance and class but found the palate now rather round a rich than sinewy as last time. The nose is a bit of a mystery, with its deep dark fruit I find very typical Cab Sauvignon like - could this be another Brunellogate victim? 93-93 (2478 views)
Tasted by Paul D on 4/6/2018 flawed bottle: Deep ruby/garnet. Nose shows porty red fruit, oxidative notes. Something not quite right here. NR (1893 views)
Tasted by portman63 on 2/19/2018 & rated 92 points: Still somewhat deep ruby and rich cherry and tar on the nose to start. Only got about an hour's air, but followed over several hours. Quite rich in body and still holding onto tannins, this has a lengthy life ahead of it. It does have plenty of acidity to finish clean, though. The best glasses were in finishing the bottle so I think in 5 years or so or with more air before starting it, it will show even better. (1722 views)
Tasted by pavel_p on 8/10/2017 & rated 92 points: First bottle from OWC of 6. Poured into decanter and drank over almost two hours. This is a sinewy and dense Brunello. One can almost taste the used (?) large barrels the wine has spent considerable time in. Plenty of dark fruit notes and herbs. Would wish for a bit more clarity and brightness but perhaps the Annata is a better choice for most Brunello. Curious to see whether further aging will help the wine to open up, or whether this will simply start to fade without releasing much more. 92+ (?) (2599 views)
Tasted by rebs1 on 4/3/2017 & rated 90 points: very overpriced (2117 views)
Tasted by slbelln on 4/1/2017 & rated 90 points: Nose continued to evolve after 2 hour decant but finish was short. Needs a few more years of cellaring to evolve. (1787 views)
Tasted by kbcadeponei on 11/30/2016 flawed bottle: Ruined! (1576 views)
Tasted by psmith on 9/16/2016 & rated 91 points: An unexpected superposition of primary dark fruits, a tannic body, and some mature autumnal components. More red, dusty Sangiovese character on the palate, and bordeauxesque earthy undertones. Medium-full bodied. Drinking well; could probably benefit from a good decant. (2292 views)
Tasted by bromion on 5/27/2016 & rated 88 points: Nice wine but a little over the hill I think. (2243 views)
Tasted by LFCHALA on 11/8/2014 & rated 92 points: Traditional style. Wine evolved with secondary aromas. Needed more aeration. Was opened and served. So I was not sure about if it is not already at the peak. (3704 views)

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
