Tasted by Jdrake on 10/22/2016 & rated 88 points: Still drinking very nicely, took 45 min to open up, but was still wonderful. (1929 views)
Tasted by bestdamncab on 8/6/2016 & rated 90 points: Taste of Mt. Veeder, nose of dark fruit, same on the palate, medium body, lovely fruit to taste, passed it's peak, touch simple, nice fruit but nothing special, medium/long finish. (1984 views)
Tasted by jbehrendt on 1/6/2014 & rated 90 points: We enjoyed this with a grilled tenderloin steak. A nicely complex, slightly fruity, mouth filling wine. Very nice. (2866 views)
Tasted by Dabolts on 12/22/2013 & rated 90 points: Jammy and and slightly earthy with fully integrated tannins. Tasty, but nothing to really rave about... Drank with beef sausages and herb roasted chicken. (2877 views)
Tasted by dontime on 4/25/2013: Enjoyable Cali cab, primary notes of veggies and earth. Some coffee. Went down nicely. If scoring 89-91. (2758 views)
Tasted by Piepro on 3/25/2012 & rated 81 points: Still drinkable, but not much flavor and nearing the end (3861 views)
Tasted by rtd3 on 3/3/2012 & rated 86 points: same as before (10/12/2011) (3899 views)
Tasted by wdlohr on 10/13/2011 & rated 88 points: The bottle opens with dark black color. Restrained aroma smells of power, with mushrooms. Long entry with sustained body. Balanced fruity and strong. (4195 views)
Tasted by rtd3 on 10/12/2011 & rated 86 points: Deep ruby color. Smell oak, and peppery earth with hints of licorice. A little flat upon first taste with slight tannins. Not much fruit. Very average. Will let sit out for an hour. Better after decanting. Slight flavors of blackberry and currant with less tannins. Drinkable but not memorable. (4030 views)
Tasted by jaimetown on 3/24/2011 & rated 91 points: Dark and brooding. Aromatically very nice with dark fruits and licorice, but framed by big tannins on the palate. (3309 views)
 Tasted by elevation02 on 2/21/2011 & rated 93 points: Wow..... (3832 views)
Tasted by carlsport on 1/26/2011 & rated 89 points: Very nice on night #1 after just 15 minutes sitting in the glass, though a bit light on the fruit, but still tasty. Detected an interesting bit of bacon flavor, but enjoyed the tannins and the mouthfeel. Might have given this a 90, but it completely fell apart on night #2, suggesting this should be consumed soon. (1974 views)
Tasted by Max Power on 9/5/2010 & rated 91 points: We drank this alongside the '05 Viader at Max's Chophouse after a few bottles of bubbly to celebrate an anniversary. We decanted the bottle for an hour at home and rebottled for the quick drive to the restaurant. This was open for business and a great pairing for our steaks. Not a great qpr at $80 retail and a definite pass for $145 wine list price but a good bottle nonetheless. Nothing like that Mountain fruit. (2221 views)
Tasted by phlegls on 3/13/2010 & rated 91 points: This was good (2839 views)
Tasted by rtd3 on 11/18/2009 & rated 89 points: A very dry bold red wine bursting with flavor. smells like berries...A hint cherries/currants & spices. Very earthy right out of the bottle. I really like the flavors that Mt Veeder wines provide. (2272 views)
Tasted by SJ_Sharkie on 9/8/2009 & rated 92 points: Aged well, let breath for about 20 minutes and opened up nicely (2058 views)
Tasted by elamasters on 3/27/2009 & rated 87 points: I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Dark and fairly complex. Better than I remembered it to be. (2209 views)
Tasted by Surfdoc on 3/19/2009 & rated 83 points: Have to agree with GV on this one. Aromas of asphalt and burnt wood. Tastes are the same with dry, astringent finish. Almost no fruit whatsoever. Bummed I spent the money on this wine. (2411 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 2/22/2009 & rated 92 points: Some muted red fruit. Raspberries, cherries and dark cranberries.
Some real strong grip on the finish. (2434 views)
Tasted by mos on 1/19/2009 & rated 86 points: Recommend decanting for a while. Very tight. Not nearly as big as I had hoped. Cherry and vanilla flavors. Super dry astringent finish! Not bad but I'm a little disappointed. (1982 views)
Tasted by elamasters on 12/23/2008 & rated 85 points: Concentrated, with lots of tobacco and menthol, but very little fruit. (1898 views)
Tasted by pb everhard on 6/8/2008 & rated 89 points: very good, probably should have left it cellar a few more years... (2000 views)
Tasted by Phin on 12/22/2007 & rated 92 points: Initially held a nice red meat and smoky finish. More time and air seemed to hurt this wine with the finish maturing to a sweeter, shorter acidic finish. (2208 views)
Tasted by napaJ6 on 8/15/2007 & rated 90 points: This is a new look for Mount Veeder. The typical extracted black fruit and mountain grape flavor of this label has turned to a more earthy and bordeaux-like style. A huge collector of these wines, I am reluctant to say that I am impressed with this vintage and prefer their fruit-forward version of a blend. (2277 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
