Tasted by estone928@gmail.com on 4/26/2024 & rated 89 points: Muted and one note. Past its prime and needs to be consumed. Decant of 30 minutes. Pnp may yield better results. (120 views)
Tasted by MichielV on 12/11/2023 & rated 91 points: Super wine. Mashomack Christmas dinner (437 views)
Tasted by drmarc61 on 2/20/2023 & rated 93 points: Mason opened the '09 so that I could directly compare the signature that has aged for 10 years. This wine had beautiful dark fruit notes, well balanced by the wood and spice notes, that merged with the tertiary notes of spice, loam and cigar box. Just a yummy wine to savor! (842 views)
Tasted by Bethesda Paul on 1/21/2023 & rated 93 points: Stunning wine. Wish I had more (791 views)
Tasted by papabluez on 11/14/2022 & rated 94 points: Amazing.....rich in full balance. Fruity & Savory! (1190 views)
Tasted by MLevin on 10/1/2022 & rated 89 points: Blackberry core. Diminishing fruit and a touch hot on the back end. Enjoyable but toward the end of its evolution. Drink up. (980 views)
Tasted by meatbomb013 on 10/23/2021 & rated 94 points: A great bottle of wine in a great spot in its evolution. Not giving much upon pulling the cork. The second glass at about 45-60 minutes was singing. Still has some fine grained tannins that play nicely with the blackberry, cassis, gravel and forrest floor notes. Great now and will be for another 5 years more. (1797 views)
Tasted by Gibbman on 2/27/2021 & rated 92 points: Drinking absolutely beautifully right now. I think it has a couple of years left. (1961 views)
Tasted by Validus on 12/25/2020 & rated 93 points: Dec 24, 2020 - Drank 2 bottles. Decanted 1.5. Extremely dark, almost black. Low sediment. Very constant, stready, fruit forward flavor. Not the deepest or most complex cab, but incredibly smooth and with pleasant nose and feel. (1939 views)
Tasted by ocfriday on 12/17/2020 & rated 94 points: Ummm, wow. Very well balanced, great fruit, mouthfeel, hits all the marks. At its peak maybe - too bad I have no more ... (1894 views)
Tasted by Night Train on 9/20/2020 & rated 90 points: Compared to a bottle I had five months ago, it has shed even more tannins. It's still delicious, but it's no longer a good match with rich or fatty foods (is there any other kind?). Still a helluva value. Too bad Donn died, since his kids appear to need a lot of cash. I'm guessing they need it to bribe his grandkids' way into USC or Stanford. Forgive my cynicsm, but recent vintages are no longer a bargain. (1964 views)
Tasted by LCHammer on 8/16/2020 & rated 92 points: Initially thin up front but strong and tasty mid & finish with mellow, smooth tannins. After 1-2 hrs open the front came around but the tannins indicate to me to drink now (agree with night train). Perhaps it just needed an hour or so to finish opening up. Kind of an unusual experience for me with Chappellet. (1507 views)
Tasted by agsdlswine on 6/26/2020 & rated 92 points: Well made & aged Napa Cab. (1283 views)
Tasted by Night Train on 5/2/2020 & rated 90 points: Opened about an hour before tasting. Extremely dark, with no visible signs of age. Plums on the nose, along with a hint of forest floor. Dark cherries and a little plum on the palate. Fairly rich and an above-average finish. Eight months ago, I thought it was just entering its prime drinking window, but now I'm not sure. This bottle had minimal tannins by comparison, so now I'm thinking it's time to drink up. Having said that, the next bottle will probably be hard as nails. One of life's great mysteries. (1434 views)
Tasted by EdKz@comcast.net on 4/27/2020 & rated 88 points: purple, medium full body aromas of cassis, Fading dark fruit flavors over powered by oak and earthiness with lingering decent tannins and acid and nice finish; drink with food asap (1334 views)
Tasted by Steven DiFiore on 4/19/2020 & rated 87 points: Overrated. (1202 views)
Tasted by T.E.D. on 4/1/2020 & rated 87 points: Very similar to my previous note. Linear and flat
with a muted nose and not mich showing on the palate. Probably past it’s prime and can’t see this improving. (1302 views)
 Tasted by chesco01 on 3/15/2020: Melatonin w/Danielle. (1160 views)
Tasted by PSUSteve on 2/22/2020 & rated 91 points: This can use some decant time. (1187 views)
Tasted by Barry Notes on 12/18/2019 & rated 92 points: Pw/2 hour decant. Clear, deep purple/red. Nice proper nose. Med body, super clean, elegant, balanced, integrated w/med to long finish. Tannin's resolved but not over the top. Perfect drinking window. Delicious, great value $39. Nothing off. (1491 views)
Tasted by Ralphk on 12/5/2019 & rated 92 points: Has years of life left. (1350 views)
Tasted by T.E.D. on 10/6/2019 & rated 89 points: Been holding these for a while. Initial open showed promise, but after a good 30 the wine really flatlined. Dense ripe black and blues fruits with hints of evergeen, mountain forest and iron. Was definitely very flat and linear, a bit stewed. Probably waited too long so drink up. (1693 views)
Tasted by Night Train on 9/28/2019 & rated 92 points: Decided it was finally time to try the '09. Opened (not decanted) about one hour before drinking. Extremely dark, almost black. Assertive nose - mostly plums with a hint of mint. Fairly rich with plums and black cherries. Beautifully balanced, with fine tannins and a better-than-average finish. Seems to be at the beginning of its prime drinking window. (1508 views)
Tasted by Jmac56 on 8/31/2019 & rated 90 points: Nice fruit and well balanced. (1527 views)
Tasted by JeffNy1 on 8/25/2019 & rated 94 points: PnP / steak dinner with friends. I loved this wine. It's in a perfect place right now. Fruit and tannins all seamlessly entwined! Dark garnet color and fruit tasted delicious. Bummed that it was my last bottle from this vintage. (1502 views)

2009 Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon Signature

Winery Fact Sheet

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
