Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 83.8 pts. and median of 85 pts. in 49 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Roland H on 9/7/2013 & rated 78 points: Medium depth, red with slight orange rim. Moderate intensity, pleasant, red currants. Medium weight, good acid introduction followed by significant but not excessive tannins and in the finish. Little flavour though. Ok. (3748 views)
Tasted by tooch on 11/25/2012 & rated 84 points: Thanksgiving Week Wines; 11/22/2012-11/25/2012 (Edison, NJ): From magnum. This was lithe and easy-going. Lots of floral notes, some cherry and subtle earth notes. (5168 views)
Tasted by PVTerroir on 11/18/2010 & rated 84 points: An immediate candied raspberry, rubber nose, with air; more red fruit, spices, bell pepper, black olive. Flavor profile is similar, fleeting red fruit (like red berries, plum)/green beans, and hay. Thin and acidic, bitter tannins, not a lot there. Light see-through magenta. Better with food. (6587 views)
Tasted by MicklethePickle on 11/3/2010 & rated 92 points: 11/3/10 at home alone. Every time I have this wine I am amazed how good it is for such a tiny ($6.99) price. Very dark. Excellent nose, loads of rich fruit gush from the glass. Matched on the palate by lovely lush fruit that is forward and flavory yet still incredibly well-structured. What a value! 5-12-17-8: 92/100 (3464 views)
Tasted by valecnik on 9/15/2010 & rated 86 points: Consistent in quality with other vintages. Not as ripe as '09, not as thin as '07, this falls nicely in the middle as a reliable wine that delivers basic goodness. Plays out well against red meat, which for us was in the form of Guinness stew. (6901 views)
Tasted by dynowine on 9/5/2010 & rated 81 points: Wanted an inexpensive night wine and there it was, a Ventoux. Twist and pour. Dusty nose with faint fruit and perhaps a bit of earth. In the mouth good acid and sour ripe deep fruit (plum, blackberry, perhaps cherry) followed by a warm finish with strong waxy dark chocolate infused with bittersweet herbs (might be bitter tannin, not sure). Off-dry, has a bit of sweet in it. Body medium, acid medium, tannin medium. 13.5%. Has an interesting finish but tends to have an aftertaste and is not well-balanced. Sigh, well I like the twist top, perhaps the bottle is off. (4193 views)
Tasted by stephen locke on 8/28/2010: Good value. Some sweet fruit, smooth in mouth - easy to drink. (4394 views)
Tasted by CarolynKNJ on 8/28/2010 & rated 94 points: Really good! We drank this with the Cheneys and the Algeos at Taka. (3831 views)
Tasted by CarolynKNJ on 8/27/2010 & rated 92 points: Really good. Drank at Taca with Cheneys and Algeos. Mild, little aftertaste. Very good. (3623 views)
Tasted by BigBoy_Sonoma on 8/19/2010 & rated 70 points: It's a hollow, by that I mean there is no mid-palate. It starts out with a bit of sour plum and finishes with heavy dry tannins It is not very good. C- at best. (3540 views)
Tasted by edbev on 8/17/2010: primary red fruit, crunchy bite. cheery, raspberry, hint of spice. very gluggable. (3314 views)
Tasted by davirley on 8/15/2010 & rated 76 points: This wine has a nice crimson color, but overall I find it to be incredibly thin. The aroma is close to nonexistant. Not much to say about this wine. (3751 views)
Tasted by jwilkey on 7/5/2010 & rated 85 points: A pleasant Rhone Valley wine that will please many and disappoint a few. We found the medium purple color and pleasant aroma very nice. The wine also was pleasant but had no legs and the taste did not linger long in the mouth. A good quaffing wine would be a better description. Reminded me of an reasonable Baujolais Nouveau. (3814 views)
Tasted by Viini-Viren on 6/29/2010 & rated 88 points: Light and rough, but pleasant. Unfortunately the next vintage (2009) was a big disappointment. (3858 views)
Tasted by SJ05 on 6/24/2010 & rated 79 points: The wine looks Purple colored.
The legs are Medium.
It smells like and Vanilla.
It tastes like Vanilla, and Mineral.
The body is Light.
The wine is textured Narrow.
The wine finishes Short.
Over powered by Vanilla, very unusual, never tasted a wine like this before. Could be flawed. (851 views)
Tasted by Sweet_Berry_Wine!! on 6/9/2010 & rated 82 points: Nice color for a cheap wine ($6.49), but that's pretty much where it ends. Nose has unappetizing green notes with some earth and spice, but not at all expressive or attractive. Palate enters full enough, but hollows out into a thin finish with plenty of minerality and tannins, but little to no fruit. There is also lots of heat on the finish. Not a terrible wine when considering the price point (and I always factor that into the equation). This wine is out of balance. (4033 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 6/7/2010: This was supposed to be included in a Rose flight and the color puzzled me. Given my vast knowledge of french wines, I finally made the obvious connection that this was not Rose, I started to think about the wine (once I got the damn ice chill off the wine and warmed it up!). Dark spice nose, with a bit of a gingerbread oak-like note, with the oak also showing up in the body of the wine. Also seemed quite big and ripe, and married with the oak, I would have not guessed french, aside from a bit of the funky, stable note that is in the palate of the wine. I wonder as to whether this wine was opened too soon or is this the style of the producer. This wine needs another 1-2 years to settle (?). (4013 views)
Tasted by stephen locke on 5/22/2010 & rated 87 points: Village Wine Tasting (Village Hall): Deep red, grenache nose of cherries and pepper. Quite complex tastes with more cherries but some plum fruit, spice and earth. Seems very sweet - not too hot so probably sugar rather than alcohol. Very soft in the mouth - Easy to drink and enjoyable (4630 views)
Tasted by jiggerz on 5/19/2010 & rated 85 points: Popped and poured. On the sniffy sniff, I get some spicy and earthy smells along with cherries and strawberries. The taste is full bodied with some nice fruit. It also has a chalky mouthfeel but not in a bad way, cocoa and cherries. (4169 views)
Tasted by jtabor on 5/8/2010 & rated 70 points: Nose: pretty decent tea and black fruit aromas. Palate: light bodied, a little watery. very little front end structure and midpalate, but a decent back end of black pepper. off balance. acidic finish with the black pepper lingering around. (3177 views)
Tasted by Dabokle15 on 4/29/2010 & rated 78 points: Not bad. Good flavor. Nothing too exciting but was ok to sip on. (2815 views)
Tasted by tarheel17 on 4/4/2010 & rated 84 points: nose: very cranberried. Simple.
palate: Drinks above it's $8 price point. Dirty and earthy, it still features tasty, though pruney fruit. Food wine. (4823 views)
Tasted by Alfaro on 4/3/2010 & rated 71 points: I purchased this bottle by recommendation of the liquor store staff and the price. This bottle of La Vieille Ferme did not suit my pallet at all, I found to be very thin with an earthy smell and not much else. I took a taste and decided to let it decant for about 15 minutes and found the earthy smell still prominent. On tasting, I got a cranberry jam and dark cherry undertone but predominantly I kept thinking green bitter tannins and could not finish the bottle. (4171 views)
Tasted by chrisvonsimson on 3/25/2010 & rated 85 points: Complex, but not concentrated. Some flabbiness. Still excellent value. (4424 views)
Tasted by Jgoal55 on 3/22/2010 & rated 85 points: Excellent everyday wine. An $8 bottle that drinks like a $30 bottle. We drank with a rare filet and a side of sweet otato. Paired perfectly. (4227 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
