Tasted by Tao on 10/8/2023 & rated 93 points: Drinking remarkably well at the moment! Every component is in the right position, the colour, the aroma and of course the palate, absolutely singing joyfully at the moment, cohesive efforts! Astounding performance! And I found it this is the very moment to uncork it! (676 views)
Tasted by Gone with the wine on 2/18/2023 & rated 94 points: Ripe black cherry, plum, saddle leather, earth and fern. Complex and in a good place. Fine grained tannins and long finish (1127 views)
Tasted by Tao on 10/30/2021 & rated 90 points: Muted nose, a hint of leatherish spices, dark ruby in colour! Not the best example! (2668 views)
Tasted by Jzxchen on 11/21/2020 & rated 87 points: Nice balance. Classic haut Brion taste. (3053 views)
Tasted by mankam on 9/3/2020 & rated 91 points: Could have let it sit a couple more years. (2809 views)
Tasted by Tao on 5/7/2020 & rated 92 points: Can't help myself to revisit an old friend of mine! The opaque dark red is always a pleasure to look at while you swirling your little Bordeaux glass! The nose is just incredible, spicy, ripe dark fruits, I sense a little woodiness, of course, it came from the first wine of the vintage 2005, sweet, sensible, long and alluring! Always amazed by those teeth gripping texture! Still young, many years of life ahead! (2972 views)
Tasted by VinVet on 4/12/2020 & rated 90 points: Not much of a nose and on the palate fruit is lacking. Acidity and tannins in balance with leather, earth, and blackberries in the mouth. Modest length finish and lighter bodied than expected. Good but not great. (2575 views)
Tasted by Tao on 2/27/2020 & rated 92 points: Just like meeting a good old friend, this bottle gave me a special experience, quite unique on the nose with a good character of the Pessac-Leognan region, spicy minerality! Still deep dark in colour, smooth palate with mouthful and mouthful of spicy fruits, long finish! Ready to go but definitely no rush if you're persuing for complexity through the bottle age! (2118 views)
Tasted by Carlos Fellipes on 11/17/2019 & rated 90 points: No notes taken, over priced but good quality. Nothing taking it to the next level but an enjoyable bottle none the less. (792 views)
Tasted by Burgundynick on 5/28/2019 & rated 90 points: Wine tasting with 8 others. It is great, but it does lack a bit of something, as a second wine I wanted a bit more. 90 points (2588 views)
Tasted by Khon Kaen on 5/24/2019 & rated 92 points: Decanted 1 hour. Really nice wine. Nice smoke and minerals. Medium body, smooth tannins, and long long finish. Delicious. (1982 views)
Tasted by Burgundynick on 2/8/2019 & rated 90 points: Wine tasting with 12 others Graphite, cedarwood and blackcurrant, not as powerful as I was expecting, but very nice 90 points (2171 views)
Tasted by Tao on 12/10/2018 & rated 90 points: I have to admit my slight disappointment continues after nearly another five years of ageing, still incredibly tight and closed, though it's been evolved a bit, still, not shining at all and lacking charm! Dark red in colour, a weak nose of supremely ripe dark fruits along with a hint of unique Graves earthiness, the palate echoing the nose very well, but lacking a bit of excitement and aged complexity at this point, shall I wait? That is the question in my mind! Worth the wait? (2200 views)
Tasted by quagland on 11/25/2018: Agree with previous notes- drink now. Good not great. (2032 views)
Tasted by GNBB on 6/10/2018 & rated 87 points: Decanted 45 mins. An intense nose showing slight stewed fruits - slightly port like. Palate is ripe with some black cherry, fine tannins and good acidity. This certainly feels like it has reached/passed its apogee and may now be declining. Slightly disappointing vs previous bottles. Drink now. (2652 views)
Tasted by GNBB on 1/13/2018 & rated 91 points: Decanted 15 mins. I’ve drunk many bottles of this and it’s drinking perfectly now. Excellent nose of ripe blackcurrants, subtle leather and cedar notes. Palate is well balanced with light fine grippy tannins and medium acid to complement blackcurrants and tobacco. Drink now-2020. Suggest only a very short decant. (2916 views)
Tasted by Legorreta on 11/12/2017 & rated 89 points: Comida con mi papa (2826 views)
Tasted by bordeaux456 on 7/28/2017 & rated 92 points: Fantastic showing from this wine. Leather, graphite, and blackberry were the main features that I found. I really enjoyed this wine, as did everyone I was drinking it with. Think it has now entered a lovely drinking stage. Enjoy! (3085 views)
Tasted by GNBB on 11/12/2016 & rated 89 points: Decanted 90 mins. Mature with leather, brambles and some ripe pluminess. Palate well balanced with light tannins. Drinking now to 2019. (4316 views)
Tasted by Burgundynick on 9/25/2016 & rated 88 points: Overall it's very good but it needs a little more time, perhaps a year or two. It's all classic claret with a cassis nose with some violets. The palate has a tad too much tannin from the unresolved oak which leads to it being a little unbalanced. It has some sweet fruit and it's nice but needs a bit more time. 88 points (3396 views)
Tasted by fokker on 8/26/2016: Took about half an hour after pouring from bottle to glass to open up. Some cedar, violets, cassis and cherries, with a touch of tobacco leaves and cinamon.
A very pleasant wine and eager to please. Very good with deep-fried shredded white turnip in batter, a Teochow specialty. (3382 views)
Tasted by GNBB on 6/22/2016 & rated 89 points: Decanted 30 mins. Paling at rim. Good nose of truffles, forest floor, ripe blackberries, violets. Palate has excellent balance with fine tannins, medium acidity and an attractive mix of brambles & leather. This wine has really come together now and is drinking ideally. I suggest that it probably needs to be drunk in the relatively near future. Now-2019. (3213 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 5/25/2016 & rated 91 points: Smoky, cherry, pipe tobacco and earthy scents. The palate is quite charming, slightly rustic on the palate, but there is more than enough ripe fruit to make up for it. (3728 views)
Tasted by M7 on 5/20/2016 & rated 92 points: Very good, drink soon. Silky texture, strong touch of scherry. (2169 views)
Tasted by GNBB on 9/20/2015 & rated 88 points: Decanted 1hr15. Light paling to rim. Nose has clear notes of leather, tobacco, blackcurrants & slight star anise. Palate medium + intense - quite firm and still a little tight. Good blackcurrant flavours, with medium tannins (now starting to dissipate slightly). Good acid balance. A little green and slightly dry on the aftertaste. Still needs time to soften out and bring into balance. Drink 2018-24. (3648 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
