Tasted by RossKwasteniet on 4/27/2024: Ross doesn’t like this (213 views)
Tasted by Decanthor on 12/21/2023 & rated 86 points: This is good, but the mineral note is dominating a bit too much right now. Especially true on day 2. Will hold my other bottles a little longer. (1139 views)
Tasted by rnjbond on 12/14/2023 & rated 88 points: Solid wine, seems in the right drinking window. Notes of dark cherry, also some dirt. Starts to mellow with time. Becomes less sweet after an hour of decanting. (1149 views)
Tasted by ahausner on 8/28/2023 & rated 90 points: Very enjoyable, buy again if I spot it. Originally from Costco (1387 views)
Tasted by olracx62 on 7/25/2023 & rated 90 points: better than my last bottle, juicy and plenty of red fruit with a balanced touch of wood and cigar box. Not too complex but really enjoyable (1510 views)
Tasted by Zoltán Németi on 7/1/2023: Unforgiving, really not ready yet. High quality oak makes this shy and tightly structured, austere even. Sangiovese's pretty black cherry, leathery notes still come through, though. Sinewy and bone dry, there is something nebbiolo-like about it. Savoury and very tannic. A serious wine without a question, with a 90+ potencial, but closed and embryonic, will need quite some time to open up. Try in 2025 the earliest, but most likely it will be at its best after 2027.

Tasted by olracx62 on 6/10/2023 & rated 88 points: interesting blend of Sangiovese (80%) Merlot and CabSauv, which benefits from some ageing in barriques. My advice is to wait at least a couple of years thus allowing to reach its best drinking window although the wine is already enjoyable (916 views)
Tasted by olracx62 on 4/29/2023 & rated 89 points: nice tuscan blend, close at the opening but then delivering its true scents and taste. Still youthful, needs air. After a long gravel bike ride on the right bank of Ticino river (1487 views)
Tasted by Hschmitz on 4/2/2023 & rated 88 points: ok, net uden at være prangende (1494 views)
Tasted by vino_per_tutti on 11/20/2022 & rated 91 points: Day Two and still going strong. Simple but satisfying "Maremma" blend. Black and red syrupy fruits, cigar box, ground espresso. Mouthfiling, fruit forward but with a grippy backbone through to the finish. Good acidity; ideal for fattier foods. Great QPR. (2009 views)
Tasted by Velobici on 9/19/2022 & rated 91 points: 90 Sangiovese 10 merlot. Really well done. Blackberry, stem, cigar nose. Nice tannin structure with acid backbone and pleasantly jammy fruit and length (2068 views)
Tasted by pilatus88 on 8/7/2022 & rated 90 points: Very consistent with prior vintage (2092 views)
Tasted by Rudolph Schmidt on 7/27/2022: 90% Sangiovese with 10% Merlot.

Decanted two hours but I could of gone longer. Big black fruits, earthy, peppercorns, bakers chocolate, freshly ground espresso, cigar humidor.

Paired great with some braised beef. (2018 views)
Tasted by WojteG on 6/27/2022 & rated 93 points: Welcome to Napa valley
If you like big, concentrated, "heavy", almost syropy juice then this is yours.
And mine too. Why? Balance, balance, balance. 2 hr
in decanter. Aromas - strong, well defined, lovely. Mix of red and black fruits, tabacco ( nice!), minerals ( surprise!), coffee ( oh mamma mia!
Taste - yes, it's sweet and syropy, but the same time it's spicy, dry, energetic, addictive. Again: red and black fruits, chocolate and milk coffee long finish with spice and grippy tannins. Acidity is top notch (2001 views)
Tasted by Gjagai on 6/4/2022 & rated 90 points: Aroma bouquet: vanilla, ripe fruit, perfumed

Color hue clarity: dark garnet, clear

Taste texture finish balance: medium body, pepper, quick drying, tart, minimal fruit, smooth, quick finish

Overall: 4/5. Great with fatty foods. Or with cheese. Or just fun on your deck. (1748 views)
Tasted by Lord Marc on 5/8/2022 & rated 89 points: Full bodied with polished tannins. Would purchase again (1859 views)
Tasted by Double-A on 4/12/2022 & rated 90 points: Subtle dark berry nose. Full-bodied, fruit-saturated and firm palate; Good length, smoky finish.
4/5 (1910 views)
Tasted by cono_sur on 4/10/2022 & rated 91 points: Blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot, the medium-high intensity nose has a lovely bouquet of sweet red cherries, rose floral, and sweet spice aromas with subtle earthy and mineral tones. On the medium-full bodied, chewy palate it has lovely, balanced replays of red cherry, rose floral, and savoury wood spices. It's really nicely balanced with juicy acidity, and plush, textured tannins that have just subtle chalky grip. A pleasing mix of savoury, woody, minerally, and red berry notes linger on the long, very satisfying finish.

Tasted by Motz on 2/23/2022 & rated 91 points: Enjoyed with Tuscan butter mushrooms and spinach in a creamy pesto sauce. An exceptional pairing.

Also, tasted alongside the same vintage Lilian Ladouys. Quite ironic that of two comparably priced 2018 reds, the Tuscan delivered notably better balance than the St. Estèphe. Go figure!

Anyway, certainly fruit forward, but there is an appealing rusticity to it, including considerable mid palate range and depth. Judiciously oaked, not over extracted, and it wears its 14 abv very well.

Seemingly a touch better than the 2017, tasted recently.

It seemed this needed three to five years to enter its wheelhouse. Holding bottles until 2030 or so, will do no harm. 91-92. (3018 views)
Tasted by amtessier on 12/12/2021: Trop jeune. À boire 2025 (2387 views)
Tasted by hankj on 12/3/2021 & rated 91 points: 91+ It's a little backwards right now. Crognolo is an anomaly in being a $30 bottle of wine that needs and improves with 3 years minimum cellar aging. To my mind this one has the structure to drink well 10-20 years after vintage if cellar conditions are ideal. (2261 views)
Tasted by Jonnhy99 on 11/18/2021 & rated 90 points: Very nice Tuscan with aromas of red currant, plum, tomato, subtle oak and vanilla. First taste starts with grainy tannins that goes away quickly followed by plum, cherry, tomatoes, leather, baking spices, herbs and vanilla. Good now but will be even better in a few years (1743 views)
Tasted by Odedis.Wine.reviews on 11/6/2021 & rated 89 points: This is a nice Tuscan Red. Showing black and red fruits with wood, earth, spices, peppercorn, tobacco, chocolates and coffee.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Still young, but already enjoyable even by itself.

Needs a couple of hours to open up properly.

I paired it with BBQ Meats.

A blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot.

14% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

$25. (2468 views)
Tasted by the godfather on 10/5/2021: really tasty (2462 views)
Tasted by vino_per_tutti on 9/17/2021 & rated 88 points: Way too young to be drinking at this point. Fruit is there on the nose, but palate is dry and tannic. Revisit in a few more years. (2144 views)

Tenuta Sette Ponti

Producer website

U.S. Importer (Addt'l Info)

Tenuta Sette Ponti lies in the heart of the Chianti area, not far away from Arezzo. The oldest vines were planted in 1935 by Duke Amadeo d’Aosto vice-king of Ethiopia, in remembrance of a victory. It has been the property of different members of the Italian royal family until the end of the 1950s, when architect Alberto Moretti bought it from Princesses Margherita and Maria Cristina di Savoia d’Aosta, daughters of Vittorio Emanuele III, king of Italy from 1900 to 1946. The Moretti family started working at the estate as soon as the end of autumn 1957. In 1996, Antonio Fioravante Moretti, Alberto’s son, took over. He was the leader of a group of companies in the sector of luxury and fashion, but decided to follow his passion. He decided to bottle the wine directly at the estate. His 1998 Crognolo and his 1999 Oreno have both become symbols of the oenological vocation of Tuscany. The winemaker is Carlo Ferrini, one of the best in Italy, who also works for other prestigious Tuscan estates such as Fattoria di Petrolo, Talenti and Brancaia. The vineyards comprise 150 acres. The estate, like many Tuscan estates, is multi-dimensional. The huge 750-acre property incorporates a stud farm for race horses, breeding of native Tuscan Chiana cattle, a preserve for a rare breed of pig, and fields of sun flowers and maze.

The Sette Ponti estate lies fifteen miles northwest of the city of Arezzo in the heart of the Chianti zone. The name Sette Ponti translates as "seven bridges" and refers to the seven bridges crossing the Arno River on the road from Arezzo to Florence.
Curiously, in a region where 200-year-old wineries are commonplace, Sette Ponti didn't even make wine until 1997, when owner, Dr. Antonio Moretti, asked his good friend Piero Antinori if he thought the estate could produce great wines. Antinori's response, loosely translated, was "Ya, sure, ya betcha!"

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.

Crognolo

Tenuta Sette Ponti’s first release was the 1998 vintage Crognolo(pronounced cro nyoh’ loh), named after a wild bush, Cornus, which grows on the estate. The blend of Sangiovese and Merlot from vines of an average age of 25 to 35 years yields a refined, elegantly stylish wine of fruit forward lushness. The wine’s dense color suggests a concentration confirmed on the palate along with sweet ripe flavors of wild cherries, black fruit, leather and vanilla also evident in the aromas. The wine is firmly structured yet elegant, with good tannic support and well-integrated oak notes, leaving an overall impression of harmony, balance and length.
