 Tasted by ziavino on 12/25/2023 & rated 90 points: An unusual profile, with notes of Granny Smith apple and coconut commingling throughout. Minerality builds as it warms, with hints of wet stone weaving in, and just enough acidity to keep it moving. The oak is overwhelming here, but somewhere under it is an interesting wine. (126 views)
 Tasted by jshufelt on 11/5/2022 & rated 91 points: Decanted 30 minutes before service. In the glass, very pale, clear white, almost no color. On the nose, piercing, focused minerality. On the palate, wet slate, flint, with intimations of honeysuckle and citrus on the mid and back palate, with a concentrated but refreshing finish. Interesting white. (291 views)

 Tasted by hrazdiiv on 5/1/2021 & rated 89 points: I love this winery and think that their whites are always very interesting, and give the reds a run for their money. Having said that, this particular bottle underwhelmed a bit. Despite having spent an impressive 25 months in oak, the color is still a light/medium straw yellow. The initial nose on this was a bit soft. I may have drunk it a bit too cold so I let is sit for 30 minutes and it opened up a bit. Very floral: mature roses with white flowers chased with a bit of green apple. On the palate you get a bit more of the burnt caramel, marzipan flavors which I always love from this producer. But the finish was short and marred with an alcohol type aftermath (think gin) that was just simply out of place. My suspicion is that I just drank this too young (even though these are meant to be drunk now/soon). I am guessing this will merit a higher score in 2-4 years and that the sum of the parts are not yet adequately reflected in Sanguis's great wine making skills here. (455 views)

White Blend

"White blend" means the wine is made from a blend of two or more different white varieties - or in some cases a blend of pink or red varieties that are vinified white, ie. without any skin contact.

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

Santa Ynez Valley

The Santa Ynez Valley AVA is the largest wine sub-region of Santa Barbara County and has the highest concentration of vineyards. The valley runs from east to west, between the Purisima Hills and the San Rafael Mountains in the north, and the Santa Ynez Mountains in the south. Although the valley is open to the Pacific Ocean in the west, the fact that it is relatively narrow means that limited cool air and fog is funnelled in. Low average rainfall and a very long growing season make the region ideal for quality wine production.

The diverse climates of Santa Ynez Valley mean that a wide array of wines is produced. The cool, western part of the AVA is predominantly planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, accompanied by other aromatic white varieties. Botrytis cinerea (noble rot) is able to flourish here, allowing some outstanding dessert wines to be produced in suitable vintages. Further east, the cooling effect of the ocean is lessened as both vineyard elevation and average temperatures increase. This warmer part of Santa Ynez Valley is more suited to fuller-bodied grape varieties, such as Syrah and Merlot.
