Community Tasting Notes (average 89.4 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 1412 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Bob AR on 4/26/2024 & rated 92 points: This hit the spot. Light gold color. Fine bubbles. Strong on the nose. Scent of brioche, apple and pear. Tasted apple and lemon. Nice finish. (791 views)
Tasted by BottleScholar on 4/14/2024: Baguette with crunch crust, pear, lemon juice and zest, white flower, and some dried apple. Mousse is slightly agressive. Can't find a tech sheet. Both creamy with sharpness of acid on attack suggests around 50/50 MLF/Blocked, maybe full MLF. Dosage probably on the higher end. Looks like 40/40/20 PN/PM/Chard. Some aged quality points to at least a little bit of older reserve wine. 12.0% abv. Overall enjoyable. QPR just a touch on the high side. (1058 views)
Tasted by GerardoGV on 4/9/2024 & rated 92 points: Light hay shades. Brioche. Toast. Green apple. Pear. Lively. Beautiful acidity and an incredibly long, citrus finish. So easy to pair and delightful by itself. Just lovely! Today, from seafood to macaroons. Works like a charm. (1098 views)
Tasted by LesChetillons on 4/6/2024 & rated 80 points: Good (1036 views)
Tasted by jackpark11 on 2/23/2024 & rated 90 points: 청사과 견과류 산미는 거의없음 밸런스 좋고 피니시도 적당히있음 (2013 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 2/6/2024 & rated 90 points: Light gold color. A classic and inviting aromatic blend of biscuits, gingerbread, almond cake, with lemon bars, lime zest, green pears and white peaches, with lots of floral tones. The palate has a crunchy, flinty, fresh appeal with a nice creamy depth, pleasantly balanced. Yellow apples, lemons and limes, and juicy peach fruit mixes well with elements of nougat, fresh biscuits, honey butter, and honeyed ginger tea. Complex, refined, classic. (2142 views)
Tasted by prasm on 2/5/2024: Served at dinner with friends, no formal note taken. From memory - green apple notes up front with a tart citrus finish - quite nice. (1827 views)
 Tasted by cristalmania0813 on 1/30/2024 & rated 90 points: 5

(1915 views)
Tasted by Bjweiss on 1/21/2024 & rated 88 points: A good representative for entry level grand marque champagne, hitting a similar price point to the Dehours to really show what you can get for the money in Champagne if you go the grower path. Not a bad wine here by any stretch — in fact, the acidity is surprisingly high and pleasant here. Mostly fruit forward with little to no yeasty or autolytic notes to be found. There is some chalky minerality here, which I appreciate. Dosage feels a touch high to me, but it’s probably a good crowd pleaser. Not much complexity here, but wouldn’t expect it given the size of production and what I’d imagine is shorter lees aging. 88pts. (1951 views)
Tasted by Iceman08 on 1/8/2024: sabred - and shattered - don't sabre odd shaped bottles !! With the birthday party crew ! (1217 views)
Tasted by RPHC on 12/31/2023 & rated 90 points: Yeasty, minerally nose, with a hint of ocean breeze. Palate showing crisp apples and under-ripened peach. Fine to medium mousse; slightly aggressive. I don't have the disgorgement date handy, but guessing it's fairly recent. Nice, well-made large-house Champagne. Eventually paired with, fried chicken and crab cakes. (1734 views)
Tasted by Harley1199 on 12/31/2023: Initially served in Spiegelau Champagne flute glasses (pictured) but it was necessary to resort to traditional wine ones to really appreciate its qualities. Deep aromas of ripe Sicilian lemons on the nose, lots of toasted meringue, apple pie and also an elusive minerality. Palate retains a certain acidity and that almost total disappearance of carbonic favors its more vinous facet, oxidative style. Excellent persistence for what it really is. Certainly the time has benefited this champagne leaving it in the right place required by my taste.
Bottle that has remained six years in my cellar and that was opened for the celebration of New Year’s Eve. I wish you a prosperous New Year CT friends.

(1791 views)
Tasted by LordVoldemort on 12/24/2023 & rated 90 points: Pale lemon, bubbles are on the larger side. This wine is elegant and fresh, considering that there is only 20% chard. Also has slight yeasty notes and a slightly sweet dosage. Nice easy-drinkable and approchable wine, but lacks minerality and complexity. (1729 views)
Tasted by nimrod17 on 12/23/2023 & rated 90 points: 처음에 열자마자 사과 레몬, 견과류의 고소함, 부드러운 기포감
시간지나면서 약간은 씁쓸한맛? (1532 views)
Tasted by Bostonwino28 on 12/18/2023: First time having this house, very typical house style NV, very apparent dosage but that’s well balanced. Good oxidative fruit, slightly toasty. Delicious even if it’s simple. (1934 views)
Tasted by caesar77 on 11/24/2023 & rated 92 points: PnP. Did not take proper notes, but this was a crowd pleaser. More fruit (golden delicious apple and pear) and less prominent yeast lees than many other big producers. (1994 views)
Tasted by mxpbuy on 9/17/2023 & rated 90 points: This bottle is from the most recent bottle shape design bottling and is fresh and lively. For 80% red fruits, its hard to taste such dominance, but it is indeed on the bold side overall. I will be interesting to see how these age. (3160 views)
Tasted by forceberry on 8/9/2023 flawed bottle: An older NV bottle, probably from the 1980's. 12% alcohol.

Rather deep bronze color. The nose feels old, tired and quite dull with rather oxidized aromas of mushroomy funk, some understated notes of earth, a little bit of dusty earth, light sweet notes of apple jam, a hint of dried peach and a touch of antique furniture. The wine feels ripe, tired and somewhat sweet-toned on the palate with a medium body and off-dry, rather oxidized flavors of rancid nuts, some sweet notes of apple jam, light tart notes of lemony citrus fruits, light saline mineral tones, a hint of mushroomy funk and a touch of sugary sweetness. The brisk acidity lends electric energy to the wine, but the lack of mousse makes the overall feel still quite flat and listless. The finish is crisp, slightly off-dry and quite acid-driven with a moderately long and quite oxidative aftertaste of lemony citrus fruits, some tart green apple tones, a little bit of earth and mushroomy funk, light sweet notes of dried fruits, a hint of pithy grapefruit bitterness and a touch of saline minerality.

With its rather oxidized flavors and flat mouthfeel, this wine is way past its peak. Although not completely undrinkable, there are rather few redeeming qualities here. Probably was great a decade or two ago. (1349 views)
Tasted by Cote d'Or on 8/5/2023: Tasted over 1 hr
-translucent light gold
-sweet honeyed ripe apple faint quinine
-med acidity, med weight straight-forward moderately sweet ripe yellow fruit

Tasted by MosheDehsoM on 7/21/2023 & rated 94 points: After so many prosecco, cava and other sparkling wines... start to appreciate the "real thing" 👏😊🥂

Nice clear intense yellow color, you also see the small bubbles going up 👏

Medium body. Medium acidity. Nice bubbles structure (how do you describe bubbles structure?).
Lovely aromatic, really addicting, citrus, green fruits, minerals, earthy notes 👏

Same nice combination on the palate: citrus, lemon, apple, peach, melon, honey, stone 👏

Lovely wine... will start to invest in this direction 🥂👏🥂👏🥂👏🥂👏 (3105 views)
Tasted by J&M Cave à vin on 7/11/2023 & rated 89 points: A good champagne with cheese (2965 views)
Tasted by rmgambrel on 7/10/2023 & rated 85 points: Very nice. Not overly effervescent, good flavor dry. Well liked (2757 views)
Tasted by Joshvoulters on 5/28/2023 & rated 89 points: This hit the spot when we were struggling to find an appropriate match for a range of highly flavoured and varied dishes. It's unobtrusive, fresh and refined. White blossom, lemon and apple, a touch of autolytic character - really nothing hugely distinctive but the balance is just right and it worked perfectly in this situation. (2521 views)
Tasted by Al-Vino on 5/4/2023 & rated 92 points: Excellent vibrant & bubbly champagne that pairs as well with sushi as it does with pizza. (2106 views)
Tasted by Jason Wu on 5/1/2023 & rated 92 points: Fuller in body, with everything you expect from a classic Champagne. Orchid, strawberry, biscuit, oyster shell. Vibrant and refreshing. Detectable dosage, well balanced. (2014 views)

Perrier-Jouët

Producer website
Perrier-Jouët was founded in 1811 in Epernay by Pierre-Nicolas-Marie Perrier and his wife, Adele Jouët. One of the most prestigious houses in Champagne, the firm was shipping wine to Great Britain by 1813 and to the United States by 1837. Perrier-Jouët owns 266 acres of vineyards in Champagne, with an average rating of 95%, and is known worldwide for its consistency of style. By the end of the 19th Century, its Brut cuvées earned the reputation of nobility and prestige that continues today. Perrier Jouët's glamorous "Cuvée Belle Epoque", known in the United States as Fleur de Champagne, was launched in 1969 and has become the most important cuvée de prestige to appear after World War II. The bottle is adorned with enamel-painted anenomes originally created by Emile Gallé in 1900, but the wine is as famous for its taste as it is for its beautiful packaging.

Champagne Blend

"Champagne blend" is a classic grape blend that typically includes Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and/or Pinot Meunier in any proportions.

However, this blend can also include Arbane, Fromenteau (Pinot Gris), Petit Meslier and/or Pinot Blanc as well.

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
