Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.3 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 13 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Cellar Fiend on 8/31/2022 & rated 88 points: Bret and Dark Berries on the nose. More pronounced on the palate. This is as integrated as it will get - at it's peak. The alcohol is too high for me.

It's time to drink these.

Caveat - I don't mind some Bret (this has too much). (212 views)
Tasted by Montana on 4/26/2022 & rated 90 points: Despite its age this was still drinking well. A very nice wine. (191 views)
Tasted by Montana on 11/5/2020 & rated 90 points: Takes a bit of air but a very nice Gigondas. (265 views)
Tasted by Neras on 9/19/2015 & rated 91 points: Inky. Fruity, pleasant nose. On the palate I get red berries, some tannins, good acidity. Initially It is however out of balance, but four hours of air does wonders. I guess however it will evolve positively. (1627 views)
Tasted by Neras on 1/18/2013 & rated 93 points: This wine is really coming together. Beautiful nose with fruit, lavender and earth - like walking up to the Dentelles! Full-bodied, rounded tannins, integrated...wonderful!
I have one bottle left, and I guess I will keep it for 2-3 years - at least.
Really a wine for the patient! (2602 views)
Tasted by wrrntl on 11/19/2011 & rated 80 points: Not in check, inky and cloying on the palate. Needs age and less oak. (3471 views)
Tasted by Jozefs on 2/28/2011 & rated 89 points: Do not keep longer. (3174 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 8/8/2008 & rated 90 points: Caveau du Gigondas: Supersilky, smooth, less typical (1434 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 8/8/2008 & rated 90 points: Caveau du Gigondas: Rasp, red frt; cedar nuances, ok (2491 views)

Domaine Brusset

Producer website
On this family estate established in 1947, the Brusset family has managed to combine the "savoir faire" of traditional winemaking with the new techniques introduced by each generation. The founder, André Brusset (1910-1999), his son Daniel, and his grand-son Laurent : three wine-growers and wine-makers with a variety of experiences have all contributed to the distinctive character of the Domaine Brusset, where three complementary generations together have achieved the best results.

Domaine Brusset is one of the leading estates in Gigondas, an ancient wine region known for sometimes out-performing its close neighbour Chateaneuf du Pape. The family-run estate has terraced vineyards at the foot of the rugged "Dentelles de Montmirail" in Gigondas, with a south-southeast exposure at an average altitude of 250m. The vineyard is planted out with noble varieties and is capable of producing wonderfully rich wines. Laurent Brusset is a perfectionist winemaker and owner of the domaine. Founded by his grandfather, André Brusset, in 1947 with vineyards in Cairanne, Cotes de Ventoux, Mondragon (Cotes-du-Rhone), Cairanne and the crown jewel, 20 hectares in Gigondas consisting of 68 individual terraces on an incredibly steep slope. This is one of the most spectacular vineyards in Gigondas - the vines face due south and emerge straight from the stone: they can only be cultivated in terraces. Rich and intense with the precision only found in fine wine. Flavours are full and dark with incredible depth, yet the detail in it, the mineral frame, the dried herb character and the fine acidity is what put the wines of Domaine Brusset in the top echelon of Southern Rhone reds.

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
