Tasted by pjhr on 5/7/2023 & rated 96 points: Drinking beautifully with delicious tropical fruit and vanilla bean notes on the expressive nose and layered palate with well integrated oaky notes culminating in a long finish. (441 views)
Tasted by dbkitc on 5/30/2022 & rated 94 points: A beautiful, mature bottle of Chardonnay. The color remains a youngish straw gold. The nose is packed with mature mango, brown butter and fresh corn. The palate is rich, broad and so intense. Layers of flavor. What a great way to celebrate Memorial Day. Best bottle of this yet. Drink remaining bottles over next few years. Super. (94) (1153 views)
Tasted by Peech on 12/8/2021 & rated 98 points: opened almost 4 hours before dinner. Really big and powerful, sooo toasty on the nose, also ripe and sweet on the palate. Almost 7 hours later this was still going strong. Amazing! (984 views)
Tasted by Fake Drinker on 12/3/2021 & rated 97 points: Together with Keller Schubertslay gg 18, kirchspiel gg 18, kirchspiel gg 17 and abts e gg 17. This wine was spectacular awesome, the butter dominated my nose since open and after 8 hours changed to popcorn and cookie. Wonderful smell and palate was good too. Expressive, finish long and big, acidity was a bit low and that was the only flaw. (1186 views)
Tasted by JuliannaDHS on 4/24/2021: As like the '06 Three Sisters Vyd had alongside, this is tired. Tasty and enjoyable but I was expecting more. This showed best on the last glass. Nothing like a bottle from 2015. (1426 views)
Tasted by mjf@ulkner on 3/13/2020 & rated 91 points: Rich, and ripe. Butterscotch and tropical fruit. Werthers Originals in the finish. The fruit has faded from its exuberant youth. OK, but past prime. (1644 views)
Tasted by SlimShaney on 11/29/2017 & rated 92 points: Gorgeous deep honeyed straw on the nose. A bit of cleaning fluid on the palate then an ethereal finish of wafting tropical lightness. (3156 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 11/18/2017 & rated 95 points: Floral, caramel, spices, yellow stone fruit - expressive and layered on the nose. On the palate powerful and intense with good weight. Smooth, rich, generous, great acidity, very long and lingering. Impressively well balanced. Drink or keep. 94-96 (3083 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 11/1/2017 & rated 96 points: The Judgement of Paris - reloaded: A very intense white wine both on nose an palate. Aromas of white fruit, anise seeds, minerals, citrus. Very concentrated palate but with great acidity too. A more of everything package but it worked. Had a slight edge over the Montille Corton Charlemagne next it it. (4170 views)
Tasted by Grapehead56 on 10/6/2017: Drank with jake and Ben Fetzer at their winery. With Lester Lopez and Kelly Vance.
Need to kerp an eye on this wine. A little fat (2847 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 7/15/2017 & rated 99 points: Straw yellow. Big , oaky , buttery, cream brûlée , touch of caramel. Opened at cellar temperature at a restaurant , drank over two hours. Amazing with a variety of cheeses, seafood and challenging dishes. Has more oak than some Marcassin chards that I have had. Extremely well done. (2797 views)
Tasted by andrewdodd86 on 7/15/2017 & rated 100 points: Heavily oaked and super buttery by Marcassin standards. Less Burgundian. That being said did love it. Butter, oak, pear, créme brûlée central, good minerality, citrus & honey. Amazing. Drink up now. (1605 views)
Tasted by Minnesota on 7/5/2017 & rated 94 points: Drinking quite well, no indication an eleven year old chardonnay. My tasting notes inconsistent for this vintage, unclear if affected by change in storage locations as other wines in the cellar have not exhibited similar variation. (1418 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 5/26/2017: One of the first wines of the night. Was the segway between the finger lakes Riesling and the Chapoutier Ermitage monster. This wine was good. Had a little bit of vanilla poundcake type quality to it. IMO, a little more on the silkier malo side of things. I was getting a lot of melon and mango on this one. Bready, but not in a bad way. On the other side, lemon and tropical fruit notes were there as well. A very balanced Chardonnay at 11 years old, with quite a bit of structure. I don't think I will have a chardonnay in my collection that will have this kind of structure at 11 years, so I've got a long way to go in this department! (1540 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 4/14/2017 & rated 94 points: Tropical fruit and vanilla bean notes on the nose and palate with buttery texture and oaky notes culminating in a tasty finish. Delicious with sautéed whitefish! (1458 views)
Tasted by Minnesota on 11/25/2016 & rated 92 points: Decanted two hours. Lovely though not superlative example of what Helen and John can achieve with Marcassin Vineyard chardonnay grapes. (1721 views)
Tasted by Minnesota on 7/3/2016 & rated 90 points: Not aging well. Disappointment. (2015 views)
Tasted by canan on 4/2/2016 & rated 94 points: BYO US Pinot and Chardonnay (Kong Hans): Popcorn, butter and caramel dominate the flavors but also some alcohol seems a bit to prominent.
There is a good acidity and also some butterscotch. The impression is very dense and sweet and seem to almost be a little affected by Botrytis?
However, after the reveal, it was obvious that this wine was simply not decanted which was a bit flaw. It needs at least 1-2 hours in the decanter to really open up. (2537 views)
Tasted by dbkitc on 3/31/2016: Not the best bottle of this. Lots of toast but lacking a bit in balancing fruit. I have had monumental bottles of this wine in the past but this one has matured pretty quickly. I don't think this is representative. (2191 views)
Tasted by Amerique on 12/28/2015 & rated 92 points: Wine had aged consideraby in last year. Huge buterscotch initial flavor. Fruit much mellower. Short finish. (2255 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 9/25/2015 & rated 95 points: Drinking beautifully with similar notes to previous bottle. (2193 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 2/7/2015 & rated 95 points: Drinking beautifully with tropical fruit and vanilla bean notes on the nose and palate with buttery texture and oaky notes culminating in a long finish. Paired wonderfully with Mediterranean sea scallops. (2617 views)
Tasted by JuliannaDHS on 1/10/2015 & rated 96 points: This is without a doubt, the most unique domestic white wine I have tasted. Marigold in the glass with an oily hue. On the nose, exaggerated notes of warm butterscotch, smoke (crazy!), and buttered toast. Show-stopping & full bodied on the palate, with flavors of rich tropical fruit, buttered pecan, and vanilla bean that lead to a finish that didn’t want to quit. This isn’t a wine for everybody, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. In the style, this is tough to beat. (Notes by Shane T.) (2367 views)
Tasted by dbkitc on 12/1/2014 & rated 93 points: Thick, pear scented Chardonnay that has a full, creamy texture. Explosive flavor. (93) (2628 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 5/23/2014 & rated 94 points: SonkinCellars Partners Meeting (The Barn): Golden in color. The nose is nice with citrus (tangerine) and vanilla. Perhaps the proverbial creamsicle nose. Very creamy on the palate. Not a lot of acidity, but quite delicious. There is oak, but its enjoyable and not obnoxious. Worked well alone, but also with food. Going back at the end of the night and it had not budged much. Years left in this, but complex now. (3723 views)

Chardonnay

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
