Tasted by whudock on 2/2/2010 & rated 88 points: good fruit, no sharp edges, silky tannins (1577 views)
Tasted by jamscreator on 11/9/2009 & rated 89 points: Strangely, the best of the bottles. Gorgeous black/dark purple in the glass to the rim. Loads of licorice, dark fruit, spice and pepper. The palate presented much of the same and the finish lingered for minutes. I love this. (1853 views)
Tasted by jamscreator on 2/12/2008 & rated 87 points: Great dark color in the glass. Blueberry, licorice and spices on the nose. The palate presented with licorice, spices, burnt cedar and strawberry. Great fruit in the glass, but almost nil finish. Drink now. (1944 views)
Tasted by jamscreator on 1/17/2008 & rated 87 points: Very dark purple color, but a tinge thin on the edges. Dark red fruits, pepper and rubber on the nose. The palate expressed too much oak for my liking, but a quality blend of the fruit and wet earth. After decanting for about 2 hours the tannins were practically non-existant, and that diminishes the overall drink a bit. (1922 views)
Tasted by Rich S on 1/8/2008 & rated 85 points: I usually adore Santa Barbara syrah but this one disappointed slightly. From the color, I thought this wine was going to be a monster. Ink purple, almost black color. We decanted but then immediately poured some glasses. On the nose, definite freshly laid tar, rubber with nice, ripe dark fruits. On the palate, however, is where this wine started to fall apart. Very smooth, with no noticeable tannins left. Quite tasty going down but no finish at all. It immediately was gone after drinking. I think this wine may have been a touch past its prime for those looking for the bold, upfront fruit and tannins. The wine was way too mellow for me. No stuffing left at all. Drink up now if you have this wine............ (1991 views)
Tasted by marka on 10/21/2005 & rated 89 points: dark ruby red color. Very pleasant looking. On the nose pepper and other unidentifiable (to my nose) spices. Tried some out of the bottle and some from the decanter. The best sips were from the decanter after 30 and then 60 minutes. Had with babyback ribs. Three left, may order more. (3035 views)
Tasted by marka on 9/16/2005 & rated 88 points: On the high end of very good. Had with tbone. Balanced and opened up and was spicier after 30 minutes of decanting. (1621 views)
Tasted by toontune on 9/11/2005: 8.3: 2nd bottle was excellent. First, was an 8, nice but not spectacular (8-8.6) fruity. Medium richness. (1105 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
