Community Tasting Notes (average 91.8 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 72 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by IanAltman on 1/8/2022 & rated 94 points: Popped and poured with venison and duck cassoulet. Blew everyone away. Dark purple color. Dark cherry, licorice, and some earth on the palate. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. Lesson: these LC wines can cellar for a long time. (853 views)
Tasted by wiscgrad on 1/14/2017 & rated 94 points: at first a bit of funk, but when that blew off, the nose became quite lovely. Really nice red fruit and light/med acidity. really impressed with this producer (2191 views)
Tasted by jimineff on 5/23/2016 & rated 97 points: Fantastic wine, not at all past the drinking window. The fruit was superb and very distinct - blueberry, strawberry. Balanced tannins and a 30+ second finish! (2964 views)
Tasted by jfkwines on 1/8/2016 & rated 91 points: excellent nose, rich flavor. Ready to go (3063 views)
Tasted by rogerr on 1/7/2016 & rated 93 points: Maturing beautifully. Nose is intense floral and fruit with secondary earthy aromas. On the palate shows great integration, texture and a long finish. (3007 views)
Tasted by jswine15 on 12/26/2015 & rated 92 points: We had this after an old bordeaux....what a contrast. Fruit to the max, with spice and tartness, but balanced. Very nice (2611 views)
Tasted by KenK on 11/26/2015 & rated 89 points: Big fruit forward style with a nice roasted element, but was kind of hot, making it a bit disjointed. Good with BBQ chicken, although a little overpowering. (1914 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 6/26/2015 & rated 93 points: BLACKBERRIES, BLACK CHERRIES, EARTHINESS, AND COFFEE IN THE NOSE. CURRANTS, BLACKBERRIES, AND BLACK RASPBERRIES IN THE FLAVOR. LONG FINISH. (908 views)
Tasted by VeniceCalif on 9/9/2013 & rated 94 points: Deep ruby with some orange. Very nice nose, led by spices: cinnamon, allspice. Next a plummy layer of dark fruit. And below that, some earthy, mushroomy tones. Awhile after opening, some completely welcome floral tones came in. Smooth and rich on the palate, showing that bottle age has paid off. Tobacco flavors, cherry pie, and a few chocolate notes in a rich stew. Finishes with a bit of rust and some cooked flavors over low tannins. This wine is showing very well right now. The date of this wine leads me to place Linne Calodo among the leaders of the Rhone Revival in Paso Robles. It's a very impressive bottle of juice. (3527 views)
Tasted by cookie7 on 6/28/2013: Pop and pour - note after 4 hours. Nose of black fruit and some crushed rock but also stewed and candied fruits. A lot of pepper and spice on the palate. Probably at its peak. (2836 views)
Tasted by Jdubb1123 on 6/8/2013 & rated 91 points: Needed an hour of decanting, all alcohol during the first hour (15.8%). After it opened up, delicious, soft tannins, rich fruit. Would have been perfect with BBQ. (3046 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 4/29/2013: Just getting around to entering my tn (from a CT offline in Feb '12), and not surprised to see this is getting a lot of love. I won't rehash what's already been said except to say if you see some grab it, quickly, and if you have some, let me know where to go and when to go there and help you, erm, inspect it. Seriously, this is fantastic, for new and old world palates alike, there's something here for just about everyone. highly recommended, thru 2015 (3197 views)
Tasted by vinole on 4/5/2013 & rated 92 points: Full bodied with high ripeness, but has enogh acidity and tannin to balance it out nicely. I think the high level of grenache in this lightens up the syrah a bit and adds more complexity and layers on both the nose and the palate than the syrah dominated blends. (2941 views)
Tasted by Wayne Richmon on 2/3/2013 & rated 94 points: Big rich and full bodied with all the complexity and finish of any great wine. (1864 views)
Tasted by JERB on 11/2/2012 & rated 92 points: Shared with B & K at Terra Bistro. Server pulled the cork and her remark was "Wow!" We had it decanted for about 30minutes. Really rich nose with dark, rather "brooding" fruits. On the palate it struck me as very well balanced and echoed those dark fruits from the nose. There was also a significant "zing" on the finish of the first glasses, though it dissipated over the rest of the bottle. Three of us really enjoyed it, K - not so much - but that is the joy of varying personal tastes. In terms of Q/P/V... maybe not so good; pretty expensive. I purchased this at the winery for $10 more than the CT community average. I have certainly paid less for more memorable wine. But that is likely just a reminder to me to trust the guys at my local wine shop! (1796 views)
Tasted by Backdoctor on 10/27/2012 & rated 93 points: What an awesome nose, could just sit with my nose in the glass... must be the grenache. Great fruit with mild tannins. Everyone loved it. This is one awesome wine! (1765 views)
Tasted by Wayne Richmon on 10/21/2012 & rated 94 points: Awesome blend that never disappoints. Great on opening but even better after 20-30 minutes. Note to self - if all else fails open a 5-6 year old bottle of Linne Calodo. (1793 views)
Tasted by stevenjstein on 7/28/2012 & rated 92 points: Big, dark. More savory, meaty, notes at this point, but seems to have plenty of life left. (1836 views)
Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 4/27/2012 & rated 93 points: Pre-Hospice du Rhone 2012; 4/25/2012-4/27/2012 (Paso Robles, CA): About 15.6% ABV IIRC. Translucent dark garnet in the glass. Lightly meaty on the nose with juicy red fruit. Tasty. 93ish. (3195 views)
Tasted by cabber on 3/8/2012 & rated 94 points: Grenache Tasting (Manhattan Beach, CA): Fruit forward, cherry, balanced, long finish. Tasted great with the manchego cheese. One of the best of the tasting. (2540 views)
Tasted by jthielen on 10/15/2011 & rated 90 points: Wonderful fruit but not a typical Cali fruit bomb. Cherry and plum flavors with a touch of citrusy acid. Nicely balanced well made wine. (2498 views)
Tasted by sbfireman on 7/1/2011 & rated 93 points: Good to go. Decanted for a few hours and the wine was running strong. First splash of fruit followed by a roundhouse of flavors. Even better on day 2. (2671 views)
Tasted by kirbo1967 on 6/4/2011: Drank in Phoenix was good drop of wine. I would say it is ready to drink and I should consume the remainder in the cellar this year. (2764 views)
Tasted by samiamx_1999 on 5/19/2011 & rated 91 points: Popped and poured sans food. Was a bit too much, big and fruity, but got a lot better w/time and food. (2676 views)
Tasted by vinoballo on 5/17/2011 & rated 93 points: Yum. Awesome. (2817 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
