 Tasted by Eric on 11/14/2004 & rated 86 points: Wow, either this has shut down hard, or it is showing the true nature of a Kabinett. Lean, mean, steely and dripping with minerals, this was much drier and leaner than I ever recall. I mean, really, really lean! I wonder, is this just closed up, is it showing its true colors, or was the bottle perhaps lightly corked? (I couldn't find any in there.) (3309 views)
 Tasted by Eric on 5/14/2004 & rated 90 points: Seattle Tasting Group does Syrah (Seattle, WA, USA): My bottle. AP# 4 382 288 0503. This crisp nose shows tons of lemon. Wow, the palate shows dancing acidity with a stony, lemony character. Other tasters picked up a lot of green apple. The extremely long finish is somewhat spicy with some hints of sage leaf. Delicious and refreshing! (4556 views)
 Tasted by Eric on 3/8/2004 & rated 88 points: Pale green in the glass. The nose is mineral driven with a hint of sage, somewhat faint aromatically. The palate shows crisp acidity with lemon sorbet and an awesomely spicy personality. You can just taste the minerals coursing through this one. (3183 views)
 Tasted by Eric on 2/16/2004 & rated 89 points: The nose is fairly subdued with vibrant mineral and hints of citrus. The palate is very mineral laden with spicy, slatey flavors. The medium finish shows fresh lemon with a hint of bitter peel with excellent acidity. This is very fresh, quenching, delicate and nicely balanced. (3614 views)
 Tasted by Eric on 12/24/2003 & rated 88 points: I opened two bottles, as the first was badly corked. The second bottle was lovely with talc and spice on the nose and a mouthful of slate and minerals wrapped up in candied lemon peel on the palate. This is a bit high at 10% alcohol, but it holds it well and is lovely and refreshing with very nice persistence. The finish does end up a bit more bitter than I would love, but at $13 this is a solid bottle and a great value. (3260 views)
 Tasted by Eric on 12/18/2003 & rated 90 points: Tasted at McCarthy & Schiering. Some sulfur on the nose is followed by very sharp minerality and a hint of lemon custard. On the palate this is surprisingly delicate and extremely well balanced. It has less concentration than many of the 2001's which I have gotten used to over the summer, but this is very alluring and approachable. Jeff mentioned picking up some herbal notes, perhaps sage, but I mostly got minerality with lemon and a fairly delicate balance between sugar and acidity. Lovely! (3239 views)

"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)
