Tasted by SFDoug on 6/24/2017: Despite some raisining reflecting its age, the wine held up fairly well. Dominant flavor of cassis and stewed black fruit and ripe cherries. A pleasant surprise from a bottle that had been lost in my cellar. (1158 views)
Tasted by johnwine on 8/24/2007 & rated 94 points: This wine is just spectacular. The color is a dark purple with some brick. The nose has sweet aromas of plum pudding and brandy soaked plums. The taste is balanced with deep, concentrated flavors of cassis, black cherry cobbler, plum pudding and trifle with a hint of sherry. The finish is medium long on candied black fruit. (2034 views)
Tasted by GlenD on 5/26/2007 & rated 82 points: A bit over the hill. Somewhat faded fruit, carmel, toast. A year ago probably would have been better. (3246 views)
Tasted by vengroff on 10/16/2006 flawed bottle: cooked (3312 views)
Tasted by raadams on 9/22/2006 & rated 89 points: Amarone-like. Full-bodied with cassis, raisen, and black cherry. Continued to open up throughout the night. (3487 views)
Tasted by vengroff on 9/16/2006 & rated 88 points: Fruit still in decent shape. A great value in the pizza-wine price range. (2612 views)
Tasted by BonnieM on 8/27/2006: Interesting, I would have to mimic my notes of a year and a half ago...sweet, pruney fruit with rustic overtones that identifies this as distinctly Italian. I like the Amarone quality and will continue to pick up one for "Sunday night pasta". Am curious to see what future vintages hold. (2693 views)
Tasted by oddangel on 8/21/2006: Licorice and slightly petroleum nose. Palate is predominantly stewed prunes with a little bit of acidity and chalk to hold it together. However, the finish is somewhat watery, so I don't think this wine will last much longer. (1973 views)
Tasted by Amapola on 5/4/2006 & rated 75 points: Stewed pruny fruit. Big on the attack, falls apart on the finish. Meaty, bretty. (2339 views)
Tasted by ksmith on 5/3/2006 & rated 87 points: Amarone like, very rich and flavorful. (2519 views)
Tasted by ashults on 3/29/2006 & rated 83 points: Plums and berries. Okay, but not great red. (1931 views)
Tasted by billyb on 3/26/2006 & rated 90 points: I like it a lot. It si either Taurino's style or the Negroamaro. red licorice, tar and maybe a little prune. (2550 views)
Tasted by rogboone on 3/23/2006 & rated 84 points: A bit heavy on the alc. taste it seems; much better the 2nd day so would recommend decanting in the future. (2723 views)
Tasted by davidpg on 2/26/2006 & rated 89 points: Decanted this one for about an hour. I always find that this wine has a plasticy/mineral smell to it (which is not a bad thing). Fruit was still muted though still very enjoyable. Drink these now if you have them. (3145 views)
Tasted by Doug64 on 2/10/2006 & rated 82 points: A bit of a brown tint. Alcohol slaps you in the face with little fruit for my taste. (3216 views)
Tasted by lbrent on 1/8/2006 & rated 87 points: Out of balance a bit with oak and alch. but interesting acidity kept it brisk. Much better on day 2. Very nice cherry nose and taste. Upgrading from 85 to 87. (3393 views)
Tasted by hutch on 11/26/2005 & rated 88 points: Brick red color. This is a silky, soft, wine, with bright, still young fruits. A pretty, lingering finish. This is exremely easy drinking, with light tannins, but it is interesting. It's a juicy wine, made of 80 % Negroamaro, and 20% malvasia rosso. It's great with Italian red sauced dishes, and all to easy to drink by itself, A great buy. (2394 views)
Tasted by davidpg on 11/5/2005 & rated 88 points: Heavy fruit, some wood present. Stronger than other vintages and actually more memorable than previous bottles/vintages. The guys liked the wine and the ladies didn't...said it was too strong. Probably should have decanted for an hour or so...the next bottle I will. (3300 views)
Tasted by raadams on 10/29/2005 & rated 87 points: Decanted in bottle for about 1/2 hour. Nose of cherry and cardboard. On the palate it initially exhibited wet cardboard, cherry, a little spice, cassis, and glycering. A slightly off bottle? The cardboard blew off after a while and the wine improved by bringing the fruit more upfront. It was also solid the second night. A unique and finally an enjoyable bottle for the $9.99 price tag - it just needed a little air. (3040 views)
Tasted by Stevo on 9/27/2005 & rated 86 points: The overpowering sour meat aroma mostly dissipates with an hour in the decanter. Though, some meat aroma remains, smoke, black licorice and fruit? appear. Otherwise ok balance, not too complex with a short slightly bitter peppery finish. (3271 views)
Tasted by Slipknot on 8/28/2005 & rated 83 points: very short finish with mostly alchohol and other ??? flavors. Very little balance. I am not sure what others are tasting. Maybe a bad bottle. (3263 views)
Tasted by dfitzg2 on 8/9/2005 & rated 87 points: Interesting wine on the list at Mangia Mangia in Key West. Priced at $19.50, this was a steal. Great complexity and definitely smooth. (3438 views)
Tasted by MediumMac on 5/7/2005 & rated 92 points: Aroma on initial opening were spice, meat, some red fruit and a slight bit of alcohol. Palate was meat, sweet moca, spice, light cherry, some tannins and slight earth. Linger was medium length of spice and earth. After about 30 minutes of decanting, this came into balance nicely. It retained all of the aroma and flavors, but they all mingled well. The sweetness and tannins settled and made it very even from the beginning to the end. Very tasty! (3872 views)
Tasted by bhardie on 4/2/2005 & rated 86 points: Not like I remember from previous vintages. More fruit oriented with a "stewed fruit" character. Almost port like flavors. Very low acidity. (3327 views)
Tasted by BonnieM on 2/8/2005: Interesting nose that I can't describe, not fruit but??? RP says "sausage, dried herbs and fennel". He gave it an 87. Nice drinking, sweet fruit with rustic overtones that clearly identify this as an Italian wine. Although lighter than a Volpolicella it definitely qualifies as a "house wine" for us. Will be picking up a few more. (3305 views)
