Tasted by chablis28 on 4/20/2024 & rated 89 points: Ok, this is likely about as good as this gets going fwd. The fruit is still fresh but I'd get the lower acidity of the vintage is going catch up sooner than later. At 17yrs out showing decent longevity for the vintage but I'd sure love some more zip. Great producer can't quite overcome... so so vintage. (746 views)
Tasted by hankj on 4/20/2024 & rated 93 points: Big bad peppery licorice over sharp red fruit. Massive medicinal herbal alcohol on the nose, but not at all in a bad way.

Buckle your chin strap and get after this one - it's a bull, so grab it by the horns and enjoy the ride

Tasted by acheng on 4/14/2024 & rated 90 points: Fabulous nose that kept evolving . Red fruit with prune and savoury (978 views)
Tasted by WineGuyX on 3/26/2024 & rated 95 points: From 375
Big nose of eucalyptus and cherry cough syrup as well as rosemary and laurel. Very rich and full-bodied, this is stacked with sweet black and red fruits as well as herbs and spices. I typically haven't enjoyed the 2007s in their youth, but this is now starting to interest me. Still has a decent tug of tannin and crisp acidity. Given this is from a half bottle stored in my very cool basement (as opposed to my proper cellar), it's remarkably youthful! Drink now-2029 95 (1495 views)
Tasted by wineamateur on 3/15/2024: Suitably spicy and not over jammy, though somewhat autumnal and lacking a bit of energy (1611 views)
Tasted by LARich on 3/4/2024 & rated 93 points: Gorgeous! Drink now or hold another 5years or so (1967 views)
Tasted by Grinner on 3/1/2024 & rated 94 points: Winey Weekend With the Woodwards in Woodinville!!; 2/29/2024-3/2/2024 (Where else?): About an hour decant. At this age (and specially with this vintage) I'd expect some bottle variation and provenance issues to show up. This one was just like a bottle in 2017, just a little more iodine and softer/ rounder edges! I'll stick with "Now-2025"

2/25/2017 rated 94 points. This bottle was decanted 1.5 hours before serving and followed for 3 more. First impression is of earthy notes including iron, stone, and tar, then black cherry, blackberry, garrigue, and pepper. Very nice depth on the palate. Long and structured, now-2025.  Tasted by Evanbdavis on 2/2/2024 & rated 96 points: From a vintage that I've come to really love in Chateauneuf and was initially rated very high by critics. It seems they were right to be excited as these 2007 CDPs are indeed wonderfully potent wines. The 2007 Vieux Telegraphe does not disappoint and has an intoxicating bouquet of red currant, red licorice, wild garrigue herbs, pepper, stones, exotic asian spices and dried roses. The wine glides across the palate like silk and the tannins have a suave, satin texture. The finish lingers and keeps it together till the very end. (2478 views)
Tasted by Hollowine on 1/27/2024: Pop n Pour. Nice VT, but seems to be showing its age. Consumed 2/3 of bottle with Pork Chops & Gnochi, paired well and smooth drinking. Last 1/3 bottle was getting a bit edgy and starting to fall off 2 hours later. (2242 views)
Tasted by Rond on 1/14/2024 & rated 96 points: Medium purple. Gave it a 2-hr decant. Very little color variation; still very fresh, with soft tannins. Notes of sweet cherry and plum, menthol, licorice, and leather. Really nice. (2427 views)
Tasted by Tudz Drkl on 1/4/2024: Medium opacity and dark ruby with some violet towards the edges. Nose first shows dark fruit and some blueberry and bright red fruit highlights. On the palate it is blended red and dark savory fruit that rides on a balanced profile that rises slowly and ends on the darker fruit end of the spectrum. Medium chalky tannins and a nice finish. Delicious. (2362 views)
Tasted by JonBarnes1 on 1/2/2024: Prime time. It was my last 2007 with no regrets. Opened in parallel with 2006 (Telegramme), and despite vastly different vintage qualities they weren’t too far off from each other; this 2007 has it all though. Drink or hold for another couple years, but I say drink. (2527 views)
Tasted by wren460 on 12/24/2023 & rated 93 points: Decanted for 2 hours. It is ready and it is delicious!!! This wine could very well last a few more years for sure. It is not going downhill at all so no rush. (2118 views)
Tasted by Vaughanwallace on 12/24/2023 & rated 98 points: Just spectacular (2024 views)
Tasted by cstir on 11/26/2023 & rated 92 points: Decanted 2 hours per CT reviews. Smooth with firm tannins, well structured with good complexity and depth; syrah predominated the flavor profile; nice finish. (2601 views)
Tasted by bobadopolis on 11/25/2023 & rated 94 points: Magnum. Benefitted from air, was probably in the decanter about 2 hours before dinner. Fantastic with dark ripe fruit and loads of flavor. Excellent now and should coast along for another decade. (2365 views)
Tasted by Bob in NC on 11/5/2023 & rated 94 points: This was a fantastic bottle. This wine is still drinking youthful. A nice rich and powerful CDP. It went perfectly with our farro grain bowls top with my smoked brisket, sauted wild mushrooms mix and roasted red beets. Drank or hold, your pleasure. (2806 views)
Tasted by walkerjfw on 10/30/2023 & rated 93 points: Dinner with Val and Rowena, made some Jambalaya with modest spice. Its Fall so time to open the Rhones. Took my own advice and decanted this for 3 hours prior to drinking.

Notes from 2020:"Medium ruby, cloudy. When first opened, picked up some of the brett notes and alcohol on the nose noted by others, blew off after a couple hours, completely gone 3.5 hours in. Palate of ripe dark cherry, plum, blood orange, Christmas spices/cinnamon. Rustic early in, later in the evening fruit was more evident and expressive. Medium weight and finish...."

This one was a better showing than the 3L a few years ago. Picking up some candied cherry, baking spice, orange zest. Viscous and "sweet" through the mid palate. Full body, medium finish.

In a great spot now, the warm vintage in 07 can be a point of debate with some tasters. This has aged well, striking the balance of ripe and expressive fruit, good lenght without being overdone. (2539 views)
Tasted by kstoddard on 10/28/2023 & rated 95 points: From magnum (2586 views)
Tasted by bhouk on 9/29/2023: Decanted 2 hours, showing kirsch and brush, fiery with leather in the finish. Awfully good right now, and in a place where it could get better or could shed fruit more quickly than it integrates structurally. I’d err on drinking sooner rather than holding too long. No urgency though. (2640 views)
Tasted by curtr on 9/26/2023 & rated 94 points: Decanted 1 hr. Earthiness moderates with air. Would have benefited from 2 hour decant. Bold, still a bit young: Drink 2024 to 2028. (2641 views)
Tasted by Nothung on 9/22/2023 & rated 94 points: A beautiful CDP. In a great place. Don’t think it will improve much from here, but has many good years left. Opened 8 hours before drinking, not decanted, which was perfect. (2487 views)
Tasted by OttawaB on 9/6/2023 flawed bottle: second corked bottle. Not looking good for the 3rd bottle. (2886 views)
Tasted by Les Kangas on 9/5/2023: On November 2020, we last had a bottle and we ranked 95. Last night, we had company and I opened a magnum at 2:30 and decanted most of it and about 3:30 poured a small amount for friends. It was good, but not 95. I bbq’d dinner and about 4:30 or later we drank the rest of decanter over an hour or so. Not all we’re drinking, but everyone had that first taste when they saw what it was. It started opening after at least two hours. I read peoples note and decided to open later than I thought and that was a mistake. It was fabulous at about 3 hours after decanting, but don’t know if it would have been a 95, as it was gone before it really opened. (2810 views)
Tasted by OttawaB on 8/31/2023 flawed bottle: flawed (2521 views)

(VIEUX TELEGRAPHE CdP La Crau rouge) 2007 Vieux Telegraphe Dear Friends, Staying with the "I'm not waiting around" theme, I was up early this morning (5:00am) in an effort to secure the last of the top-end 2007s from Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Next week is going to be crazy for Rhone wines and this is a situation where being proactive is the right formula (instead of reactive after the scores come out). I found a number of good examples today but this is a star in the making. This is the last of the first tranche pricing I could find on this wine and I secured every bottle available. If you are looking for a wine with decades of ageing potential, the 2007 Vieux Telegraphe is a deceptive monster of a beverage that may prove to be among the longest lived of the vintage. While one usually looks for femininity from this winery (and heavenly aged aromatics after a decade or so), the 2007 is built more in the style of a brawny 1978 or 2005 but appears almost easy to drink at this stage. Don't be fooled - this is not a wine of finesse and grace. Today, there are so many buried layers of rock, dirt, red fruit and floral/garrigue tones that it takes careful study to watch them emerge. This bulldozer of a wine is built for long-term demolition and you will be rewarded for patience. Don't even consider opening a bottle of this until 2015 and more likely 2020. Think of this as an investment in Bordeaux with similar potential for escalation in value over the next 20 years. One thing is for sure, the price is not going to go down and only a small amount was released at this price - who knows what it will be post-WA bottle score? The 2007 Vieux Telegraphe may be atypical for this winery but, to their credit, they didn't try to strip the wine of its natural state by "creating" a more graceful expression when there was none. I'm not sure why this is even an issue - 1947 Cheval Blanc is certainly not typical of that winery either? VERY HIGHLY RECOMEDED as a thrill-a-minute wine for those seeking superlative depth, tannin, structure and longevity (not the typical giggly fun house of the 2007 vintage). The 1989 Lafleur of the 2007s? ONE SMALL SHIPMENT ONLY at this price with impeccable provenance: 2007 Domaine du Vieux TÄlÄgraphe Chëteauneuf-du-Pape "La Crau" (this is not the Telegram or Blanc - this is the flagship "La Crau" bottling) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Rhone7793

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
