Tasted by tightlines&wine on 1/15/2019 & rated 87 points: Lost this in my reds. Bourdeaux like nose. Berry fruits. Soft mouthfeel. Somewhat sweet.Tad past its prime, but still nice. (724 views)
Tasted by stewartl on 3/13/2014 & rated 91 points: still tasting great. well-integrated. mulberry and some spice (2152 views)
Tasted by kenv on 1/8/2013 & rated 91 points: Pop & pour. Still in very good shape. Nose of black fruits and graphite. Medium body with plenty of red and black fruit and a touch of dark chocolate. Lovely tonight, but I can't see it getting any better. Drink up. (2966 views)
Tasted by fr5ag7d on 9/18/2010 & rated 89 points: quite good and a great deal (3725 views)
Tasted by hoos90 on 11/9/2009 & rated 87 points: Appears to be reaching the end of its lifecycle. Drink soon. (3772 views)
Tasted by Roentgen Ray on 1/3/2009 & rated 89 points: The color has faded a bit, not nearly as dark as upon release. The aromas are also less expressive. Coffee, tar, brambley fruit, and coarse tannins. This was better when it was younger. (3932 views)
Tasted by tskrueger on 12/7/2008 & rated 87 points: Drinking very nice right now...Certainly not going to improve. (2830 views)
Tasted by AndrewSica on 10/10/2008 & rated 86 points: nose - big - jammy plum, cherry cough drop, tobacco,

Cherry, plum, dark fruit bomb - good acid structure and decent finish, heat on the backend but nothing offensive. A bit too over the top for my tastes

Note: This was tasted after being decanted for over 2 hours as I didn't start tasting when I expected to (2653 views)
Tasted by daCrusher on 6/9/2008 & rated 88 points: still drinking well, nice concentration of fruit but, no a lot going on there. (2319 views)
Tasted by Roentgen Ray on 6/1/2008 & rated 91 points: This is a wine that has to be consumed when you are in the mood for something big. I was last-night. The dark fruit was integrated, the wine was round and supple, the finish was warm, and not hot. Very enjoyable. (2100 views)
Tasted by GEMon on 1/4/2008 & rated 91 points: Lots of jammy dark fruits with hints of spice, licorice, and chocolate on the finish. (2344 views)
Tasted by herberto on 12/16/2007 & rated 91 points: A bit soft but nice spicy fruit. (1948 views)
Tasted by cbbrown3 on 10/14/2007 & rated 88 points: Deep garnet color. Blackberries, cherries, raspberries, and vanilla on the nose. Medium to full body with soft, ripe tannins and good acidity. Cassis, blueberries, blackberries, vanilla, and chocolate on the palate. Good length on the finish with the sweet fruit evolving into the vanilla and chocolate. Not bad, but I think earlier bottles have been better. This was my last bottle, but if I had more, I'd try to drink them in the next year and a half. (2373 views)
Tasted by BigTarheel on 8/24/2007 & rated 88 points: Super-ripe ... dripping with blueberry and fig jam, hints of spice and a rich chocolatey finish. This is a wine to be enjoyed for its pure over-the-top style. The 2003 vintage in Barossa was known for heat & ripeness and it shows in this Aussie Bordeaux-blend. (2433 views)
Tasted by BSteffes on 6/23/2007 & rated 86 points: 3rd and last bottle. Alot of oak...and fruit....both on the nose of palate. At times, this wine reminded me of a pinot noir. Lots of "grape" flavor in the mouth. My wife enjoyed it alot as she prefers the fruit forward wines. Good. (2885 views)
Tasted by indiscriminate palate on 6/7/2007 flawed bottle: Bummer. Opening another bottle... (2318 views)
Tasted by indiscriminate palate on 6/7/2007 & rated 87 points: After one oxidized bottle, this one still had the slightest brown edges, but seemed okay. Decanted about one hour. Deep purple color, brick at edges. Parker notes "creosote" which, for the first time, actually makes sense (irony - Leslie is off banning creosote for NY, so today's children will not recognize the smell in future cuvees). Also vanilla, fruit syrup. Medium to full bodied. Immediate sweetness quickly yields to lots of acidity. Long, citrusy finish with light, balanced,"puckery" tannins. Shiraz kept well in check by the Cab. Another bottle, two weeks later, was pop-and-pour, seemed bigger, more jammy and hot, typical over-the-top Australian shiraz than the last one. Score is for the decanted bottle. (2513 views)
Tasted by SGates on 1/8/2007 & rated 87 points: A fun, affordable, over the top barossa wine. Not quite as good as the shotfire shiraz, but well worth the $15 bucks. (3221 views)
Tasted by sjt on 12/31/2006 & rated 88 points: I liked this. Strong initial oak, but faded witd decanting and in the glass. Fairly thick, good red and black fruit, hint of chocolate. Nice bottle (3110 views)
Tasted by BSteffes on 10/21/2006 & rated 89 points: Good stuff in here. Lots of fruit and a nice finish. I got berries, spice, and a hint of flower on the nose. The palate continued the berry theme. Could use a little more time to bring out some "age" with the fruit. Good value. (3652 views)
Tasted by tckoonce on 9/16/2006 & rated 91 points: Juicy, jammy, fruity - great value for a good quality drop. (3162 views)
Tasted by lewisrise on 8/10/2006 & rated 92 points: Floral nose with blueberry and spice. Very fruit forward with great mouthfeel. Blueberry, vanilla, and hints of toasted oak. Great Australian Bordeaux blend (3519 views)
Tasted by DesMarteau on 5/4/2006 & rated 88 points: Thick...rich...too much forward fruit and nothing else. Missing the nuances of the 2002. (3999 views)
Tasted by photon on 3/27/2006 & rated 88 points: Pleasant (4030 views)
Tasted by herberto on 3/20/2006 & rated 86 points: Deep purple red, nice fruit, loose structure. Not as impressive as last time I tasted it. (3992 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

Shotfire (Ridge)

Thorn-Clarke produces a very popular set of wines with the name "Shotfire." Until 2004, they entitled them "Shotfire Ridge", but starting in 2005, the wines are simply designated as "Shotfire." To prevent repeated duplicates we have set the vineyard to "Shotfire (Ridge)" for all vintages.
