Tasted by pavel_p on 12/24/2022: Consistent with my last note 9 months ago. Drank over two days. Nicely balanced white Rhone blend still with good freshness, not overly heavy or rich (13.5% alc only), no signs of oxidization but aromatically fairly muted. Should continue to drink well over the next 5 years I think but will not improve. 90 (757 views)
Tasted by rsbeck on 12/17/2022: Gave away for Christmas present. (629 views)
Tasted by bobbylion on 11/1/2022 & rated 91 points: No oxidation, still nice acidity in the background. Surprise find as I thought I only had 09 left. Needs right food. Grilled chicken or cheese, or strong fish. Tonight with sardines, bread and onions (701 views)
Tasted by pavel_p on 3/31/2022 & rated 90 points: A year since my last bottle and was a bit worried reading below comments re oxidization. Certainly no signs of that in this bottle. Still showing good freshness even though aromatically fairy muted for a White Rhone blend. Drink over the next few years. (1082 views)
Tasted by oldcorke on 3/26/2022 & rated 90 points: This was well stored in 55F cellar, but it's now in decline. The Roussane has taken a baked apple character with toasty pie crust. Oxidation is evident but not overwhelming. Paired with lobster/shrimp bisque - the wine's fruit came to the fore, balancing rich bitterness from the lobster shell stock & medium toast roux in the full flavored bisque. Oxidation dissipated over the course of 2 hours & the wine became more enjoyable on it's own, but it's not like a fresh CdP blanc anymore. Pair foods accordingly. (973 views)
Tasted by mattdathan on 5/29/2021 & rated 92 points: Nectar! (823 views)
Tasted by pavel_p on 1/1/2021 & rated 93 points: Third bottle from a case and best showing yet. Am not a big fan of white Rhone blends in general as the wines are often too oily, alcoholic and bitter for my taste, but this is showing really well. Wonderfully complex nose with fine herbs and a touch of petrol. On the palate this is still fresh, not tired nor tiring. Long finish. Excellent - drink now. (1314 views)
Tasted by jsherdc on 10/19/2020 & rated 90 points: A good bottle.. Roussaine’s dry honey richness, and still fresh. Tasty. (1043 views)
Tasted by jviz on 9/27/2020 & rated 85 points: Tired and lacking in fruit and acid. Long past its best. The nose has developed some grassy complexity but the palate had no gas in the tank to follow. A shame (1003 views)
Tasted by leomare on 3/11/2020: Marmelade PR dinner with wine tasting with Mair 2020 March vacation (864 views)
Tasted by pavel_p on 1/26/2020 & rated 90 points: Almost two years since my last bottle. This seems to be fading aromatically a little. No signs of oxidation though, and even improves and opens up with some air, so this will certainly last a few more years. (1073 views)
Tasted by bobbylion on 4/28/2019 & rated 92 points: Still going strong. Good interpretation of C9DP from Paso Robles. Oily and honey-like. Zero acid - almost half-sweet. Complex and gaining in the glass. I think this is my last bottle of 07. Moving to 09 now. (932 views)
Tasted by VoteferPedro on 8/4/2018 & rated 91 points: clean floral and mineral tones
pale still despite 11 years
seems to have an unctuous texture that a good white rhone should and keeps bitterness in check, which is an issue I have with a lot of US rhone blends

Well done
could age but see no benefit in longer time
drink up (1259 views)
Tasted by pavel_p on 2/25/2018 & rated 92 points: Straw yellow. 13.5% alcohol - nice to see that the New World version of this white Rhone blend does not have more alcohol than the original. Not tired at all with good acidity joining the honeysuckle, bitter quince notes and minerality. Complex palate. Long finish again with those bitter quince notes. Can drink now but will certainly last.
Am not really a fan of white Rhone but this is an excellent white with equally great QPR. (1714 views)
Tasted by bottlewasher on 2/10/2018 & rated 93 points: Great white with a beautiful dark yellow color. Nose needed some time to really open up. Nice mineralrity with hints of citrus and melon. Good to drink now or hold for another year to see where it goes (1201 views)
Tasted by mtaczak on 10/29/2017 & rated 93 points: drinking fantastically. give it at least 30-60 minutes before serving, and serve closer to 60-65F. rich and oily with some fascinating bitterness on the finish for the first hour or two, it dissipates and integrates later on to yield a delicious wine that's practically a meal on its own. nowhere near fading, but i don't see that there could be much more up-side to this (1253 views)
Tasted by jsherdc on 8/5/2017: Went bad (1403 views)
Tasted by oldcorke on 5/11/2017 & rated 92 points: Satisfying, moderately good white rhone style evidencing dense yellow fruits, reasonable acidity, and a bit of oak. This bottle would likely have been good for another 5 years in the cellar. Drunk with some fatty pan roasted chilean seabass (aka patagonian toothfish?) for dinner and it worked pretty well. (1543 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 3/5/2017 & rated 93 points: WIML93

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about two hours.

Yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of talc, yellow pears, creme fraiche and hazelnuts. Flavors of apricots, peach and quince. Medium acidity, full bodied. Drink now. (1709 views)
Tasted by bobbylion on 4/24/2016 & rated 92 points: An absolute winner last night - I had good brunello for cheese, but our guests wouldn't move to red - this was too good to give up and complex enough for cheese. Not too much alcohol, sweet with some acidity (but not much), wonderful taste and no problem with aging for 9 years - on the contrary. Great wine. (2582 views)
Tasted by jsherdc on 3/2/2016 & rated 88 points: Nutty sherry style. Wish it was more honeyed. From 375 (2457 views)
Tasted by Grenik on 2/3/2015 & rated 90 points: Nice balance with delicate floral notes throughout. Pear, peach, lemon fruit with a nice acidity. Very bright and fresh considering the age. I do not think it is improving, but I think it has another 4-5 years left of very good drinking. I have been quite happy with the 2007's from Paso. (3295 views)
Tasted by tward on 11/27/2014 & rated 92 points: What isbjoern said.
Most of this was consumed on Thanksgiving among a group, so no notes. Showed pronounced honey on the nose, but the body was fairly lean and minerally; nothing cloying and I felt the Roussanne glycerin was restrained, lower than typical. A glass worth left in the bottle, sealed and refrigerated, was the best on the 2nd night after coming up in termperature. Showed apple, clove, marzipan / a hint of nuttiness. Golden in color with some cloudiness. A very nice wine. (2990 views)
Tasted by isbjoern on 10/4/2014 & rated 91 points: Really a unique and tasty wine. Outstanding concentration and length and superly balanced. A wild mix of flavors: golden apple, mango, orchard fruits, hazelnuts. An almost oily texture but with beautiful freshness and a mineral backbone. Full of life and tension. Great food wine. Wonderful now, but should hold well for several years yet. - 91 points (2996 views)
Tasted by timewithwine on 8/9/2014: A blend of 68% Roussanne, 22% Grenache Blanc and 10% Picpoul fro the meticulous vineyard that is Tablas Creek. The floral nose suggests it might be somewhat light, but expectations explode when the wine hits the palate. The floral nose (hibiscus?) becomes orange zest, peach pits, pineapple, white pepper, anise and honey in the mouth. Its rich, oily texture carves a surprisingly bigger mouthfeel than anticipated. The texture and mouthfeel causes me to pause and take a moment. This wine is stunningly good. It finishes on white pepper, anise and honey. 13.5% alc. With a simple rotisserie chicken - an amazing pairing. With DDB and Rodney Young. Highly Recommended. (294 views)

Tablas Creek

Producer website
Tablas Creek Vineyard, founded by the Perrin family of Chateau de Beaucastel and Robert Haas of Vineyard Brands, is dedicated to growing grape varieties traditional to France's Rhone Valley. The partners chose hilly western Paso Robles for its limestone soils, rugged terrain, and ocean influence. All Tablas Creek wines are estate grown using environmentally sustainable practices.

2007 Tablas Creek Esprit de Beaucastel Blanc

WINE LABEL: A tremendous expression of the outstanding 2007 vintage. Rich aromatics of honeysuckle, lemon drop, meringue and spice are followed by intense flavors of honey, caramel apple and lemon, and a long mineral finish. Rousanne 68%, Grenache Blanc 22%, Picpoul Blanc 10%.

WINEMAKER PRODUCTION NOTES: Roussanne, with its wonderufl balance of richness, minerality, and acidity, as usual forms the core of our 2007 Esprit de Beaucastel Blanc. In 2007, a year of treemndous intensity for all our varietals, we balanced Roussanne's rightness with a higher-than-usual percentage of Picpoul. The final blend for 2007 includes 68% roussanne, 22% Grenache Blanc (for roundness and its distinctive green apple and anise flavors), and 10% Picpoul Blanc for acids and minerality. We fermented both Grenache Blanc and Roussanne in one- and two-year-old foudres, which added richness and gentle sweet oak to the wine. The Grenache Blanc's extraordinarily long fermentation delayed blending and bottling of this wine into August 2008.

WINEMAKER TASTING NOTES: A powerful expression of the 2007 vintage at Tablas Creek, the wine shows aromas of rose petals, candied lemon, honeycomb, white pepper, and sweet oak, rich Roussanne flavors of oney and sweet spice and long, dry, slightly tropical finish. It should drink well young, but will also reward time in bottle. We recommend you hold the wine 6 months, and expect it to shine for at least the next 6-8 years. Pre-release press: robert Parker 92-94 points (6/08)

White Rhone Blend

A white wine containing two or more Rhône varieties, including: Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
