Tasted by KVM on 9/24/2020: A littleoxidation. Otherwise this is lovely, balanced, open, complex. Toothsome. (316 views)
Tasted by KVM on 2/26/2020: Inky dark. Fragrant of black fruit and chocolate. Richly textured, somehow it is balanced; and delicious. (396 views)
Tasted by KVM on 12/13/2019: Deep brick red. White pepper, blackberry, cinammon, chocolate. Heavy bodied, viscous, blackberry, tobacco. A hint of oxidation, and acid a little lemony. The tannin has melted away, although there is a tangy mineral feel on the finish. This is very enjoyable today. (393 views)
Tasted by KVM on 3/15/2019: Although showing a little oxidation and va the ripe blackberry fruit shows through. I really like it, my partner finds it too old. (284 views)
Tasted by KVM on 11/20/2018: Nose of dark berry fruit and raw game. Concentrated, rich, fruit, menthol, tobacco. Very good. (315 views)
Tasted by KVM on 10/30/2018: Dark and lots of sediment. Mature, black fruit, wet tobacco and chocolate. Sweet mature fruit palate. Lovely now; ther is no reason to wait. Degraded over 3 hours in the open bottle. (249 views)
Tasted by KVM on 5/30/2018: Mature looking and smells a little oxidized. Drinks fresher that all of that. (379 views)
Tasted by KVM on 4/19/2018: Dark, with tons of fine sediment. Nose is ripe plum, chocolate and. Mineral and saline feel. Medium + long. Lovely. (357 views)
Tasted by 1961Vintage on 4/26/2015 & rated 92 points: Love everything about this bottle. Need to find more. (550 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 1/29/2015 & rated 88 points: Cork in perfect condition with a clear ruby color in the glass, both good signs. Love the nose: classic mix of black and green olives, bacon fat and olive oil overtop of rich but not baked fruit (dark cherries, blackberries and juicy plums), some floral elements come out on the nose with time. Full bodied and very velvety on the palate, the tannins have really smoothed out but they provide just enough a foundation for the fruit. Much tangier and currant-driven on the palate, still some other dark berries mixed in, but the fruit is very subtle and chilled down. The weight from the 14% alcohol is evident, but I don’t find this wine hot. Day one it was perhaps a bit subdued, but still lots going on. With five hours open the wine got prettier and prettier, showing more bacon and chewing tobacco. I love it when Aussies age like this. (605 views)
Tasted by shk5157 on 5/27/2012 & rated 88 points: Subdued dark fruit, pleasant nose and relatively short finish. Not sure if would have been better younger (992 views)
Tasted by Thilo on 7/3/2006 & rated 88 points: Dark garnet/purple to the rim. Nose shows sweet/sour plum, blackberry, and bramble. On the palate, juicy tart plum flavors combine with blackberry, tar, smoke and spice. Fairly soft on the finish, but quite juicy. (1592 views)

Hazyblur

Grateful Palate Imports website: Owner/winemaker Ross Trimboli is the namesake of one of the most notorious gangsters in Australia. For some reason Ross says he always gets his phone calls returned very quickly! Unlike the other one, our Ross became one of the foremost potato farmers in the country but he grew obsessed with grapes and winemaking. Ross Trimboli of Hazyblur sources grapes for his Shiraz releases from various regions of South Australia, including McLaren Vale just south of Adelaide, the Adelaide Plains north of the city and Baroota in the South Flinders Ranges. The limited-release Invictus Shiraz, of which only 165 cases were produced in 2004, comes from the Barossa. He also owns a young vineyard on Kangaroo Island, an emerging growing area off the coast of Adelaide, where he raises Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon for his Kangaroo Island labels.
