Tasted by Whatsamobo on 1/3/2015 & rated 94 points: Find more from this vintner. (2774 views)
Tasted by adehoop on 12/8/2012 & rated 89 points: Smells true to Syrah, nice pepper, smokiness and ripe cherries coming through. The pepper comes through on the pallet quite strongly with red ripe fruit, cherries and raspberries, a little smoke and charcoal, also a medium amount of acidity and a good tannin structure. It lacks a little roundness for me, quite piercing the way it attacks my mid pallet And the finish lingers but feels one dimensional. I have never been a great Syrah fan, but wanted to try this one because the claret was delicious. This was still a good wine, but not worth the price. (4514 views)
Tasted by franco rosso on 1/7/2012 & rated 92 points: Better than a good nose, full of fruit. Pleasantly full bodied; an easy drinker. Great finish. Everybody liked this one. (4555 views)
Tasted by tomandlu on 8/15/2011 & rated 90 points: Popped and poured. Virtually opaque red-black color. Very spicy nose with mixed fruit and some oak. A bit lighter on the palate than prior bottles and not as richly fruity but still a potent syrah nonetheless with good acidity and virtually no tannins. This has calmed down significantly over the past year or so. Drink up. (4905 views)
Tasted by The Wine Write on 11/25/2010 & rated 91 points: Decanted for an hour; ate with grilled steak. Dark garnet color. Nose had really opened up: dark cherries and some pepper. Really smooth on the palate. Dark red & black fruit, with a spicy; long finish. Great wine. (5188 views)
Tasted by tomandlu on 3/21/2010: Popped and poured. No notes. Pleasant, fruit, fragrant but not as inspired as I recall from prior bottles. (3236 views)
Tasted by vinoceros on 11/17/2009 & rated 90 points: Drank over dinner; no specific notes. Very nice with dark berries, smooth tannins, well balanced. A crowd favorite. (2280 views)
Tasted by tomandlu on 10/19/2009: No notes. Decanted about 1/2 hour. Big, juicy, complex syrah that avoids being jammy. Outstanding. (2341 views)
Tasted by tomandlu on 9/27/2009 & rated 92 points: Splash decanted roughly 1 hour. Opaque purple-garnet color. Effusive nose of fresh meat, anise, tar, and red fruit. Luscious and rich on the palate with very good acidity but very little tannin. Long, equally fragrant finish. As one taster mentioned, this is a hedonist's wine. I don't see it going anywhere but so what, it's wonderful to drink right now. (2374 views)
Tasted by esb on 8/16/2009 & rated 92 points: Interesting, always evolving, cherry, herbs, and a hint of smoky meat. The texture is fantastic - very plush, soft with great class and sophistication. Wood influence but not oaky. Big, rich and concentrated. Excellent. (2331 views)
Tasted by RPerro on 5/23/2009 & rated 91 points: Memorial Weekend Wine Tasting (Chehalem Mountains & Carlton, OR): Very earthy and big on the palate, with cherry and blackberry fruit, and a long mocha finish. (3763 views)
Tasted by kbrater on 5/11/2009 & rated 93 points: Wow. This is a wonderful Syrah. Fruit forward and lush with deep berry and nice finish. Had at tasting room in Calrton and bought a bottle - well worth the $38 price. This is a wonderful wine. (2514 views)
Tasted by RPerro on 11/28/2008 & rated 92 points: Thanksgiving Wine Tasting (Carlton, OR): Big cherry notes, deep earth flavors and a nice sweet finish. Just released a couple months ago, this wine is rockin! (4443 views)

Sommelier Journal, March 2009
(Tyrus Evan Syrah Del Rio Vineyard) It’s curious that Ken Wright, who produces perhaps the most subtle, refined Pinot Noirs in the Willamette Valley, can make one of the biggest, blackest, burliest, spiciest Syrahs on the West Coast. The beauty of it is, of course, that this wine is not without refinement—the purple-plum and lingonberry-jam flavors flow in velvety smooth layers, and the thickly hewn texture is as svelte as it is muscular—displaying a compacted concentration and almost effortless sense of proportion. Southern Oregon is the Real Deal

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
