Tasted by Papies on 2/28/2023 & rated 88 points: its been a long time since we had this last 11 whole year since we had this fresher and more vibrant ( Papies 92). Still alive but well filled with oxidative notes, well past its best of days and for sure depending on cellaring this will have variation but is now nobly old. We would advocate one drinks this sooner than later. 88-89 if our bottle is to be considered representative. (522 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 1/28/2020 & rated 92 points: For a villages Meursault this is excellent. Very vibrant even after 13 years. Light to medium yellow color. The nose a little reticent at first but emerges with aromas of white flowers and Asian pears. The wine has wonderful energy with a nice acidic backbone and expressive flavors of orchard fruit, minerals and some light oak treatment. This lacks the complexity of the premier crus but it is a really good drink today. (1243 views)
Tasted by bugdoced on 10/15/2017 & rated 90 points: soft and with less minerality than I prefer but still has a delicious
mouthfeel (2030 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 7/23/2017 & rated 92 points: Drank it blindly, his origine as a Burgundy is obvious, I guessed 2005, balanced, some nuts in the finish, good acidity structure, creamy, nice for food pairung, 91-92, now nice to drink (2429 views)
Tasted by llink on 7/18/2017 & rated 89 points: The nose shows a little advanced, with some lemon and butterscotch. Not sherried but going in that direction. The palate was lovely, with good acidity and energy with a creamy texture that balanced well the other elements. (2333 views)
Tasted by MSN on 5/14/2016 & rated 90 points: First time having a Lafon village level Meursault. Wine seems to be in a good place of maturity showing a nice golden color with some brulee and custard notes on the nose. Palette was classic Lafon with power and a touch of noticeable oak. Acid levels were very nice, thank you 2007 for this. Given the fact it's a village wine, there was not a whole lot of complexity here. Still, this is probably one of the best village wines out there. It was just lacking in the gun flint minerality department for me. Had Pierre Morey Terres Blanches 2007 a few nights before, same price point, and that was firing. This wine came off as what would be a good compromise for the Burg lover and Cali wine drinker. Cheers - MN (2578 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 5/8/2014: A Few Lafon Meursaults and Volnays (Arlequin Wine Merchant, San Francisco): Medium yellow. Ironically, this was somehow more impressive than the Clos de la Barre of the same vintage. Lighter than the 2009 but lactic and creamy, really without much trace of wood. This clearly outperformed.  Tasted by noppakit s. on 4/14/2014 & rated 92 points: This is the best sample to express the terroir of Meursault and the style of producer that's perfect.

I always love this wine, 2 bottles tasting of 2009 and feel the 1er Cru in its finished.

I'm not hesitate to buy 24 bottles of 2007 and it's very good to drink at the moment.

Fresh acidity, sexy nose, delicious and beautiful finished. Great village wine.

Love it. (2591 views)
Tasted by yenda on 2/16/2014 & rated 92 points: beautiful. more fat than 06. drinks very well indeed (2393 views)
Tasted by Pacalet on 1/23/2014 & rated 90 points: Lovely and fresh citrus nose with little oak influence. Medium palate with good complexity for its level, pretty long finish with lots of minerals and nutty oil. (2451 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 8/4/2013: Plenty of bright orchard fruits with a dollop of almond butter. Fresh and lively with bright acidity and good intensity and length for its level. (2181 views)
Tasted by VHJV on 7/23/2013 & rated 91 points: In a good condition. A very nice village wine with lovely fruit, great acidic structure and an excellent balance. (1562 views)
Tasted by HoJack on 12/24/2012 & rated 89 points: Lovely crisp but buttery meursault. Slightly simpler and not as full as some premier crus but a very elegant and delicious start to Christmas Eve dinner! (1764 views)
Tasted by johnh1001 on 12/1/2012 & rated 90 points: Drank over 2 hours. Bright nose of citrus, nuts and a bit of oak. Sweet and bright in the mouth with an oily texture. Medium finish. Very nice. (1425 views)
Tasted by TheEngineer on 8/17/2012 & rated 90 points: Easy to drink but lacking some stuffing. Similar notes as last time, surprised really given vintage (1669 views)
Tasted by Papies on 6/19/2012 & rated 92 points: The wines of of Comtes Lafon, with James Handford MW (Handford Wines, London): 2007 is shaping to be a brilliant vintage for whites. Restrained on the nose, citrus notes, light exotic fruits, a bit more profound oak ( even more than the 2008). Good fruit and depth on the palate, roundish clean feel to it. Good fruit with length. Will not dissapoint and a lot better than when we tried it last. 92 (1897 views)
Tasted by RTaylor on 5/31/2012 & rated 90 points: Tasted at The Sampler. A lovely elegant wine - hints of hazlenut and citrus fruit. (1528 views)

Tasted by Dokken on 1/26/2012 & rated 94 points: Very complex and sexy nose with spicy new oak, roasted hazelnuts, fried bacon and flowers. Creamy and elegant in palate with pronounced minerality. Very intense and long. (1342 views)
Tasted by Alex H on 7/1/2011 & rated 85 points: Sweet wheatgrass , cream and white dandelions. Greener herbaceous finish. (1491 views)
90-91 (1744 views)
Tasted by Papies on 5/20/2011 & rated 88 points: Serious Burgundy night (Chez Rosa-Teixeira, Limmerston St, London): Very well made wine, but in effect the buttery, mineral depth that we so much love in Meursault is not here. Its a good white wine, balanced and drinks very well at the monent but its a bit on the shallow end. At the end of the day this is a village and for the village it is very good but for this price tag there is a lot more out there. Drink from now. 88+. (2020 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 5/15/2011 & rated 92 points: Burgundy 2011, Day 0 (Beaune): An excellent Meursault village. This had all the richness of Meursault paired with the lovely acidity of the vintage. It had a lovely deep nose - deepest of the three whites we had, with reservoirs of white fruit, wheatgrass scents, sweet white flowers, some cream and a whiff of honey. With time, some earth and chalk hints and even a bit of toast came out. Very nice, and very complex for such a young wine. Lovely on the palate too. Here, mouthwatering acidity framed a rich, weighty, buttery textured mouthfull of yellow fruit tinged with some citrus freshness. There was an impressive amount of power, extract and structure for a village, but it was the precision and focus underlying it all that I really impressed me. The longish finish had just a touch of green herbs adding a lift. Lovely stuff. This showed even younger and tighter than the pair of 2009s that we had alongside! Lovely stuff, which should age really, really well. (2242 views)
Tasted by Mingmong on 5/15/2011 & rated 90 points: Nose is light white fruit/flowers. Good structure and balance. Mineral, citrus, lime and quite high acidity. Finishes well and lengthy. (1552 views)
Tasted by TheEngineer on 7/25/2010 & rated 85 points: Elegant but lacking in the typical stuffing of a meursault. Tight and a bit discombobulated, slight off balance with acidity. Perhaps not the best bottle and will try another soon to confirm. (1994 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Meursault

Located in Cote de Beaune, south of Volnay and north of Puligny Montrachet. Meursault ("Murr-so") has historically been Burgundy's center for white wine production. In fact, nearly all of the 2.5 million bottles produced from 440 ha (1,090 acres) are whites. The soil is a mixture of marl and chalk and is perfectly suited to the production of chardonnay. Meursault wines are known for aromas of hazelnuts, honey and vanilla for its aromas and creamy, almost olive oilllike texture. There are no grand crus in Meursault, though Les Perrières, Les Genevrières and Les Charmes produce remarkable wines. Further, some of the most well-known vineyards of Meursault such as Narvaux and Limozin are not premier cru but Villages-classified vineyards. Recent top vintages include 2008, 2007, 2005, 2002, 1999, 1996, 1993, 1990.

With 437ha. of vineyards dedicated to Villages wine or Premier Cru, Meursault has the largest area permitted to be planted in white wine in the Cote-d'Or. Furthermore, despite the fact that the village lacks even one grand cru, Meursault has historically been Burgundy's center for white wine production, in the past even more so than Puligny-Montrachet or Chassagne-Montrachet. While much of those two villages had in the past been planted to red grapes, Meursault has always been white wine territory. In fact, the modern day vineyard of Les Combettes in Puligny-Montrachet, which forms a continuous chain with the premier crus of Meursault, was once considered part of Meursault and not Puligny, where the many nearby vineyards produced red wine. There are several important factors that determine the reputation of Meursault. Primarily, the soil throughout most of Meursault is perfectly suited to the production of chardonnay; it is a mixture of marl and chalk, that when combined with a largely east or southeast exposure creates healthy grapes that are full of character. Another factor correlates to geology, though in a very different way. Meursault's high water table allows its residents to carve deep, cold cellars "perfect for the production of wine" into the chalky, stony soil. So, while large negociants from Beaune dominated the production and marketing of Burgundy throughout time, Meursault remained a wine of its own citizens. Contributing to this, since red wine has been more prized throughout time, these same negociants looked elsewhere for sources because the wine of Meursault has always been white.

What makes the wine so special? The most common descriptors attached to Meursault are hazelnuts, honey and vanilla for its aromas and creamy for its texture. However, this simplifies things quite a bit. In most cases, Meursault despite an almost olive-oil texture is countered by a precise mineral character, stoniness and a more refined overall palate than, for instance, Chassagne-Montrachet. It's the unique stony/mineral character that often gets lost when tasting Meursault, as many concentrate on the ripe, hedonistic primary flavors and aromas. It's the bipolarity of the wine, the interplay of both factors, that makes Meursault one of the most sought after white wines in the world. As mentioned above, there are no grand crus in Meursault, though many would argue that Perrieres, Genevrieres and Charmes can attain these lofty heights in the hands of the best producers. Further, some of the most well-known vineyards of Meursault such as Narvaux and Limozin are not premier cru but Villages-classified vineyards, though again, the best examples are clearly of higher quality. source: http://www.burgundywinecompany.com/wines/display.php?subregion=Meursault
