Community Tasting Notes (average 91.8 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 63 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by aaslanian on 4/20/2024: Wonderful (98 views)
Tasted by dkwins on 5/17/2023 & rated 93 points: Not sophisticated, but my style. Golden hue, sweet, but with tropical flavor rather than syrupy. (480 views)
Tasted by repoock on 3/21/2021: Desert wine (1340 views)
Tasted by juneau bob on 12/25/2017: Honey, earth, green alfalfa and orange peel. (3121 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 6/27/2015 & rated 90 points: Dinner (The Palace, Mission, SF): From a half. Color is honey-gold; nose has tropical fruit, a little saline, white fruit, a little reticent; palate is full bodied, sweet, decent acid, good botrytis spice, nice fruit; medium finish. Very nice, Sauternes styled, quite youthful, great fruit and balance, lacking only a little complexity and the vibrancy of the best Sauternes. 90-91
Day 2: Nose has more honey, secondary complexity, a little more forward; palate seems a little flatter, lacks vibrancy and persistence, but still has interesting character. 90 today, and it doesn't seem like it has the density to improve.
Day 3: No change from yesterday. Very nice. 90 (5603 views)
Tasted by Deux Chevaux on 4/27/2015: Deep golden. Viscous. Apricots, marmalade. It was slightly disappointing; would have been better -- even impressive and memorable -- with more acid. (4976 views)
Tasted by Rollerball on 2/15/2015 & rated 90 points: Beautiful label, well made and tasty if not especially distinctive, and a pretty good pairing with salted caramel gelatto. (4950 views)
Tasted by daydrinker on 2/8/2015 & rated 92 points: Just a comforting drink. Certainly not too sweet and still has some vibrancy this far into its life. Orange marmalade with some floral undertones. A great finish and an excellent weight on he palate. Glad I grabbed multiple bottles (4519 views)
Tasted by _water.into.wine_ on 10/3/2014 & rated 92 points: Sadly no formal note as at a dinner party but a fantastic desert wine which avoids the sickly sweetness of many in this category.

Personal note: Drank with Jacques, Felice, Jason, Laura and Katie (3635 views)
Tasted by Hedge872 on 12/24/2013 & rated 93 points: More floral and less sweet as it ages (3417 views)
Tasted by rdsboca on 4/13/2013 & rated 89 points: Nice desert wine that pared very well with the pannacotta. Held up nicely to the cream. Sweet enough but not cloying. Orange marmalade and lemon zest. Solid but not overly memorable. (3469 views)
Tasted by rtd3 on 12/22/2012 & rated 95 points: my last bottle :( (3493 views)
Tasted by Uglypinga on 11/26/2012: Honey, vanilla, caramel, candied nuts. Talk about dessert in a glass. Viscous and delicious. Could use more acid but delicious. (3481 views)
Tasted by sonodoc on 8/19/2012 & rated 94 points: Awesome as usual. Sweet apricot taste. (3511 views)
Tasted by hanasowner on 6/23/2012 & rated 92 points: Nice and syrupy...not too sweet. Very enjoyable. (2961 views)
Tasted by rb415 on 3/5/2012 & rated 93 points: Apricot, pear and tropical fruit on nose and flavors followed through midpalate and finish. The finish lasted for a couple minutes. This wine is drinking extremely well and a wonderful pair for a almond or pear pastry. (3103 views)
Tasted by xuaeinw on 1/17/2012 & rated 92 points: Very good. Let it go for a while and see what happens. (2740 views)
Tasted by golfwine on 1/15/2012 & rated 87 points: Similar to some other's comments, this was not only not as sweet or unctuous but more surprising, it was way short on the acidic component that is so typical of sauternes and so, this one fell far short of my expectations. (2707 views)
Tasted by cknibb on 12/25/2011 & rated 95 points: Family Christmas. Great juice. (2790 views)
Tasted by miller3324 on 12/21/2011: Drinking well, although not as rich and sweet as I was expecting. Not as much depth in flavor as I come to expect from this bottling (2848 views)
Tasted by PhillipSedrish on 11/27/2011 & rated 94 points: Thanksgiving. It is always excellent but with so many sweets on the table it was just one more
strain on the pancreas. (2921 views)
Tasted by SanFranSoxFan04 on 10/29/2011 & rated 92 points: Tasted alongside a 1985 Joseph Phelps Scheurebe Late harvest.
Honey, Peach, Vanilla, everything you would expect. BUT when I went from the older yeasty and honeyed Phelps back to this, the acid became more noticeable as well as a wonderful petrol note on the nose like you would get from German Riesling. (3164 views)
Tasted by DUMAN on 9/10/2011 & rated 95 points: One of the best Dolce's I have had (3084 views)
Tasted by pablogman on 8/6/2011: - Yellow gold color. (3117 views)
Tasted by pablogman on 8/6/2011: - Medium body. Polished texture with a medium finish. (3133 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
