| Community Tasting Notes (average 84.4 pts. and median of 84 pts. in 9 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by SmartWino on 11/10/2013 & rated 90 points: c: aged on edges; n: dark fruit; t: full-bodied, somewhat chewy, good fruit/acidity/heat balance but with tannins; f: smoked oak w/tannins. Great wine but still need 3 - 5 years in the cellar! (2178 views) | | Tasted by Pluecht on 5/19/2013 & rated 84 points: Relay not nice at all. Herbaceous green, fruit just about dead. Drink now. (2441 views) | | Tasted by OregonWineGeeks on 8/2/2011 & rated 89 points: This is a unfined and unfiltered Sonoma Merlot. The nose is rich with black fruit, anise, black pepper and loamy soil. The palate show a nice full body wine with sweet fruit and supple tannin that is mouth filling. Good with food or on it's own, would match well with cheeses and red meat. (2926 views) | | Tasted by aztecmark on 4/7/2010 & rated 80 points: This bottle was not good, maybe my expectations were too high but there was not a whole lot there. Muted nose was not offensive but not real encouraging either. I tried to let it open but after an hour in the decanter nothing had developed. Very thin on the front with little to no finish at all. Gave it time... fed it to the wife and poured the rest out. Very disapointing. (2967 views) | | Tasted by golfwine on 4/5/2010 & rated 77 points: Initially, some alluring aromatics, which seemed to slowly fade. Conversely, what began as a very, very thin palate impression, started to bloom just a little...but after almost two hours, and not really developing into anything more than a decent 'total package'. (There's a slight possibility that I'll have more to write as I finish up the bottle but don't count on it.) ...A recognizable, Merlot-ripe-raspberry fruitiness/sweetness came through after 3hrs but with it, a noticeable tartness, which rendered this wine a real miss in final analysis and so, I had to dock it a few points (and that just might be generous). (2972 views) | | Tasted by gdykema on 1/30/2009 & rated 85 points: Floral, candy nose. Toast and perfume, not a typical merlot. Tasted at the winery. (1216 views) |
| Arrowood Producer web siteMerlotMerlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountySonoma CountySonoma Coast |
