Community Tasting Notes (average 93.2 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 285 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Zweder on 2/24/2024 & rated 95 points: Beautiful bouquet with white and yellow fruits and some brioche. Same on the palate, beautiful acidity, limestone minerals and a great length. Great and harmonious bubble. (752 views)
Tasted by Mbad77 on 10/21/2023 & rated 95 points: Still drinking incredibly well and delicious - previous notes apply not really moved. Graceful (1216 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 9/1/2023: Completely surprised me but in a good way. I've never thought much of the 2000 vintage which to me has always seemed a bit less expressive and yet not quite as likely to manage the age. This made me reconsider. The wine is still incredibly fresh. Bright. Easy drinking. Not as complex or quite as interesting as the '98, but much younger and perhaps it just needs a lot more time to show itself. It was very lovely. (1599 views)
Tasted by ubercuvee on 7/21/2023 flawed bottle: Taittingers Comtes blanc night (Noize, London): Corked sadly, which is a shame as this is usually a great bottle. (1672 views)
Tasted by godx on 7/1/2023 & rated 93 points: Drank alongside the 2006 CdC. Showing some development but still no rush. Brioche nose, citrus fruit palate with solid weight and body. Acidity is still lively. No shame is opening these now but zero rush and these can easily age another decade. Outstanding. (1428 views)
Tasted by KenK on 12/3/2022 & rated 95 points: An excellent bottle after an oxidized one a few week ago. Beautifully concentrated pure citrus fruits with lip smacking tartness. Simply delicious! (2252 views)
Tasted by englishman's claret on 11/7/2022 & rated 94 points: I like the lemony, creamy, white flower personality here - it's a really big nose, seemingly slightly reductive and with wonderful depth of flavor on the palate. Very satisfying, doing well now and built to age. 94-95 (2987 views)
Tasted by Puteljen! on 10/22/2022 & rated 92 points: This bottle was a bit of a disappointment. Nose is showing hints of maturity, but still comes across as youthfull for the age, with lemon, bisquits and light smoke. Lacking a bit of intensity, more fragile and elegant. On the palate also faint, without omph. Well balanced, and no off notes, just not quite up to the standard I expect from CdC. (1838 views)
Tasted by Mbad77 on 8/14/2022 & rated 95 points: I’ve had a few from case now and am loving these. The nose is almost worth the price
Very fresh stil and drinking well (2035 views)
Tasted by Beachfan on 7/18/2022 & rated 92 points: Really a 2005, lively even if it doesn’t have the laser beam precision I love in Comte (1976 views)
Tasted by Mbad77 on 5/30/2022 & rated 95 points: In a great place. Lovely sweet opening with traditional Comtes nose showing subtle developments. Bright and lively effervescence , utterly delicious. (1714 views)
Tasted by dbkitc on 5/7/2022 & rated 97 points: This completely blew me away. Has evolved so much over the past five years. Deep, rich yet precise. Chuck mentioned a Coche-like quality to the fruit. I see it. Past bottles have been good but this is stunning. (97) (1802 views)
Tasted by wconnolly on 2/26/2022 & rated 92 points: Pale straw color. Lots of yeast on the nose. Apple, brioche and yeast on the palate. Tight, ample mousse. Medium bodied and delicious. (1845 views)
Tasted by KenK on 2/24/2022 & rated 93 points: Drinking well, but showing signs of maturity. Suggest drinking it up, but no rush. (1756 views)
Tasted by Peter Franzén on 1/2/2022: Xcc (1776 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 12/17/2021 & rated 94 points: Holiday Champagne Gala (Park Ridge Country Club): In 00/02/04/06 vertical. Easily my favorite of the 4 vintages tasted. Apple and lemon, nicely fresh, delicately floral, all wrapped in a bright, minerally package. (2312 views)
Tasted by cct on 12/11/2021 & rated 95 points: Lovely honeyed nutty nose with beautiful orchard fruit, and for me, ideally integrated autolytiic notes. This is in a pretty wonderful place right now. it’s developed the complexity of bottle age. The dosage has mellowed yet it remains fresh bright and alive. Texturally there's a beautifully fine bead with great detail with the precision yet giving with a fleshiness beautifully juxtaposed to its focus. Mouthwateringly delicious. One of my great pleasures is when I feel like I catch a wine at its absolute apogee, and I feel that is exactly what happened tonight. This is not the best vintage of CdC, but this is giving all it can and what it has is pretty wonderful. This wine makes me happy. I am sue this has plenty in tank, but I can't think of a reason to wait. It is so good right now. 95 (1860 views)
Tasted by The Vines That Bind on 10/29/2021 & rated 93 points: A great example of this. Some development but mostly fresh and bright. Very open knit and inviting. Great brioche and cream. Toast. Bottles like this remind me of the ‘90. 93 - 94. (1897 views)
Tasted by The Vines That Bind on 9/14/2021 & rated 93 points: Down to a quarter of a case and the best example so far. Wonderfully rich and round Chardonnay fruit. Toasty and creamy. Developed but still bright and fresh with good mousse and effervescence. Open knit, warm, inviting. Excellent. 93 - 94. (2056 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 9/4/2021: Epic Bordeaux for an Epic Birthday!; 9/1/2021-9/12/2021 (Paris & Bordeaux): After the 2000 Cristal. This is a leaner style and a bit less expressive and tight. That being said there’s a promise to this wine and a ceiling which might be higher even than the Cristal which I find interesting. Opened a bit in the glass. Tasty wine. (2967 views)
Tasted by Cailles on 8/24/2021 & rated 92 points: TS’ Birthday Gathering (CdC/DP/old Dominus/Latour): Following a magnum of the 2006 (rated 95) is difficult… This had less of everything. I found it a bit angular but with the acidity well integrated. In addition, it didn’t show much depth at this stage. The signature Comtes personality was still recognizable but overall just good but without any exceptionalism. The structure is there to let this wine age for a few more years in search for more depth. 91/92 pts today.

TN: Medium- expressive nose displaying citrus and shy bread/bakery aromas. On the palate a touch more expressive but without much depth. Some citrus and apple fruit along some bready aromas. The structure is not as uper soft and luxurious as in other vintages, lots of bubbles and a high but fairly well integrated acidity. Medium- length.

Decanting: Not decanted, maybe it could have used some air. (2427 views)
Tasted by RED AND BLACK on 4/5/2021 & rated 93 points: For my little one 2nd yo bday. Wonderful bdb champagne, very rich and elegant. I recently had some other top cuvee from 2000 and found these rich in style drinking now. This is drinking well, still has many more years as felt still decently young. Fantastic bdb (1975 views)
Tasted by nash151 on 2/1/2021 & rated 92 points: A struggling beginning with wood and green smell at first, that I associate with bad Dom Perignon. Baffling how young the wine feels, probably due to pristine storage that might be slowing down evolution to painfully slow pace. It took the wine at least an hour to become enjoyable. This is a focused Comtes, very elegant, with a nicer tension than '99. The mousse is again extremely fine and elegant. This needs a lot more time in my book to turn into a Comtes I love. (2301 views)
Tasted by robertek on 12/31/2020 & rated 97 points: This is a fantastic Comtes right now. Lovely nose although ofc no hurry to drink up. (2238 views)
Tasted by eoinhharkins on 12/25/2020 & rated 95 points: This was just great tonight! Still a baby too with a long life ahead, lots of bruised apple, toasted brioche, chalk minerals on the nose, palate is so harmonious with such a long finish too (2149 views)

Champagne

Le Champagne (Le comité interprofessionnel du vin de Champagne) | Grandes Marques & Maisons de Champagne (Union des Maisons de Champagne)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
