Tasted by Patrik H on 12/29/2023 & rated 90 points: On the nose: Acetone, roses, dark cherry, forest floor salvia.
On the palate: Licorice, white pepper, tannins, morels, still vibrant.
Long finish (252 views)
Tasted by Johnny Vee on 2/20/2021 & rated 91 points: Fruit is fading but still very good. (1480 views)
Tasted by eljocco on 2/20/2021 & rated 89 points: Ingen succé, platt ocjdåöog frukt. Hade absolut hoppats på mer från en bra producent under ett fint år. (1334 views)
Tasted by Kingdoberman on 6/1/2018 & rated 95 points: At Abruzzi. Decanted for over an hour. extremely powerful nose, beautiful texture, cassis, cherry, leather. very smooth on the finish that lasted for an eternity. Had it with beef carpaccio. made the meal and the wine, what a brilliant pairing (2838 views)
Tasted by RichardU71 on 3/2/2018 & rated 92 points: Modern barolo, lots of dark fruit, strong backbone, big tannins and a juicy wonderful finish. This will age a long time. Keep the rest of the bottles in the cellar (2706 views)
Tasted by Hoogey on 10/21/2017 & rated 79 points: Leather and licorice and a very slight hint of fruit in the background (strawberries / cherries). A bit annoying hint of acetone. Lots of tannins, but that’s pretty much it in the medium length aftertaste. Expected worse after reading the latest reviews, but if you’re sitting on a bottle I’d suggest drinking it now. (3017 views)
Tasted by KESA on 10/14/2017 & rated 90 points: Nose : Cedar/wooden, rose petals, dark cherries, mushroom.
Palate : Firm, acidic, soft but prominent tannins, dry, medium length finish.
Can't see this getting any better, fruit is not there to balance things. 24h air didn't really do anything on second tasting, quite enjoyable wine on an October autumn day. (2148 views)
Tasted by Patrik H on 9/8/2017 & rated 89 points: On the nose: Acetone, creosote, red berries, stable.
On the palate: Very dry wine with fine tannins and good acidity. Little more fruit than previous bottle. But I think it has had its top and is on its way down.
Medium finish (2221 views)
Tasted by gusno on 9/3/2017 & rated 90 points: Some mature notes with dark fruits. Still plenty of tannins. Drinks well now. (1365 views)
Tasted by Patrik H on 7/28/2017 & rated 89 points: On the nose: Acetone, creosote, red berries, some hay and a hint of mint.
On the palate: Very dry wine with fine tannins and good acidity. Perhaps on its way down where the fruit is lacking a bit.
Medium finish (1443 views)
Tasted by Eurocave on 12/11/2016 & rated 86 points: Wine may have been consumed too late and would be fair to revisit another similar vintage. (1787 views)
Tasted by Ramberg on 10/8/2016 & rated 90 points: Nose with red berries, cherries, leather, touch of hay and barnyard, dry roses, cedar wood, oak and mint.
Palate with drying fruit, mainly ripe cherries, some red berries, cedar wood, rather creamy midpalate, but with high acidity & soft tannins.
Mature, in a good drinking window now.
This is ready to go, and won't benefit from further aging.
Good standard Barolo, modern styled, but not overly so.
Finish is a bit thin and short.
Fruit is drying, so time to drink up while it lasts.
(89 - 91) (1834 views)
Tasted by Marc on 5/14/2016 & rated 91 points: Dinner at S and A's house (Freeman Bay, Auckland, New Zealand): Beautiful expression of Barolo, in a more modern and forward style. Exquisite fruit with absolute textbook tar and floral aromas. Firm but inviting tannins, long and elegant finish - superb ripeness. This will go on for quite some time, but I would find it difficult to resist. (2867 views)

Tasted by Pfleonard on 10/16/2015 & rated 88 points: Lots going on the nose. Very perfumed. But tannins hard to the point of astringency. Mismatched with pasta we served. Needs rare meet. A shame. Always a risk with Nebbiolo. (2620 views)
Tasted by marquettefan on 1/19/2015 & rated 92 points: Excellent. Opened 2 hours prior. Goes well with beef. (2887 views)
Tasted by Christoffer78 on 11/14/2014 & rated 92 points: A lovely effort, the 2005 Scavino Barolo delivers deep red fruit, classical cherry and very forward amaretto tones. The nose is very fruit forward and alive, but certainly keeps its elegant origin alive. The palate is also enjoyable. The different components are clearly visible, but still there is enough balance to keep the wine on the elegant side. Oak, fruit and acidity speak with one voice. A very nice entry-level wine from a star producer. Well worth seeking out! Served from 375 ml bottle. (3170 views)
Tasted by Mascarello59 on 7/20/2014: From halfbottle. Unbalanced with too grippy tannins at the moment. Doubt this will ever come around. Tannins dominating also day 2.
As it may also be down to bad storage conditions, no rating given. (2926 views)
Tasted by Highmountain on 6/12/2014 & rated 89 points: Still rough but show potential. Popped and poured but this wine need to be decanted and sit four a couple of hours. (2757 views)
Tasted by Christoffer78 on 4/11/2014 & rated 92 points: Revealing a classy Nebbiolo fruit accompanied by a very nice Amaretto perfume. Tones of cherry add to the experience. Tannins offer a nice backbone but they are still very pleasant. Certainly balanced with a lovely structure, this is a very nice wine. It certainly drinks very well tonight, but has a long time to go in the cellar. (2915 views)
Tasted by Christoffer78 on 2/28/2014: At first this effort reveals classy Nebbiolo fruit and a very nice Amaretto perfume. After a few minutes in the glass a rather unpleasant odor of dark moisturized cellar appears. Cork can certainly show many different sides. No score for tonight, but I am sure this wine would deliver nicely if it was ok! (2663 views)
Tasted by alfagirl on 2/8/2014 & rated 88 points: Dark cherry and violet on the palate. Medium legs. Alcohol strong at the outset but smoother as it airs. Decant for a couple of hours. (2235 views)
Tasted by Dave Canada on 2/7/2014 & rated 89 points: Nose of brown sugar, menthol, cherry liquor, tar and candied florals
Palate is really quite pretty....definitely more modern in style but svelte.
Candied cherry, plum candied flowers, brown sugar, menthol, tar and vanilla. Though there is some obvious oak treatment, it seems to have integrated quite well into the wine.
The real problem with this wine is the abundant alcohol that appears on the transition to the finish..quite distracting
The finish is medium+ but is a touch one-dimensional in terms of its candied profile.
Nice wine...but not a re-buy for me. (2002 views)
Tasted by Rani on 11/7/2013 & rated 89 points: Beautiful fruit here, very pure, with tannins that have a bite. Still quite young and may round out with a couple more years in the cellar. Also a little bit alcoholic. (2165 views)
Tasted by Omar Khayyam on 9/29/2013 & rated 90 points: (from a half bottle) The nose is subdued and somewhat tight but pleasantly aromatic in the classic sense. In the mouth, this is very smooth, and very well balanced. May lack a bit complexity on the nose and longevity on the finish, but otherwise just a very well made wine! (2441 views)

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.

Barolo

Regional History:
The wines of Piedmont are noted as far back as Pliny's Natural History. Due to geographic and political isolation, Piedmont was without a natural port for most of its history, which made exportation treacherous and expensive. This left the Piedmontese with little incentive to expand production. Sixteenth-century records show a mere 14% of the Bassa Langa under vine -- most of that low-lying and farmed polyculturally. In the nineteenth century the Marchesa Falletti, a frenchwoman by birth, brought eonologist Louis Oudart from Champagne to create the first dry wines in Piemonte. Along with work in experimental vineyards at Castello Grinzane conducted by Camilo Cavour -- later Conte di Cavour, leader of the Risorgimento and first Prime Minister of Italy -- this was the birth of modern wine in the Piedmont. At the heart of the region and her reputation are Alba and the Langhe Hills. This series of weathered outcroppings south of the Tanaro River is of maritime origin and composed mainly of limestone, sand and clay, known as terra bianca. In these soils -located mainly around the towns of Barolo and Barbaresco -- the ancient allobrogica, now Nebbiolo, achieves its renowned fineness and power.
