Tasted by timewithwine on 10/28/2017: Missing as part of the great computer crash of 2016 along with 10 months of TNs. (672 views)
Tasted by timewithwine on 9/3/2017: Four years has passed since last popping open one of these bad boys. While the color is no longer primary, it nevertheless retains a deep purple core and burgundy rim. Rhubarb gets the jump on the attack, but ripe plum is just behind it along with sweet vanilla and Zin funkiness. The finish is all coffee, toffee and mocha. As stunningly good as this is, I almost wish I’d pulled a Geyersville to compare with it instead of the ‘06 Pagani (which was blown away by the Paso Robles. 100% Zinfandel. 14.5% alc. Some heavy sediment being thrown off just now. With Rodney Young, Mandi Smith and DDB over smoked beef brisket. Recommended. (641 views)
Tasted by djarcara on 9/14/2016 & rated 87 points: A big wine. Cranberry sauce. Just too jammy for me. (3054 views)
Tasted by beerenauslese on 7/19/2016 & rated 94 points: This wine has held up very well. Nose of macerated fresh dark cherries, green herbal spices, a bit of vanilla and stone. Tastes of concentrated ripe berry fruit and dark cherries, bursting with sweet and tart flavors, neither jammy nor overripe. It is balanced by very smooth tannins and light minerality, producing a long dry finish with a bit of black pepper. Quite a luscious zin with no hint of oxidization (even at 8 years old). I am going to have a hard time waiting to finish the remaining half of this bottle until tomorrow. My score is at the high end of the distribution, but I think this is an exceptionally tasty zin. (3162 views)
Tasted by DawnMarieK on 3/5/2016: very nice! (3552 views)
Tasted by Italiana on 11/14/2015: Balanced, but quite sweet, like adult Koolaid. (3260 views)
Tasted by lake.vino on 7/4/2015 & rated 89 points: Nicely done zin. Big, yes, alcoholic, but still remarkably balanced. Good fruit, not too much oak, tannic, but tannins mostly coming around and supporting structure (3528 views)
Tasted by kosinski on 6/27/2015: Aroma: Sweet vegetal aroma like canned tomatoes.
Palate: Rich dark red fruits with slight hints of woody spice. Low acidity and fully mature tannins. Good grip. A tad simple and two-dimensional. Drink now. (1262 views)
Tasted by djarcara on 3/11/2015 & rated 89 points: Full body. Still jammy. Very pronounced dried apricot nose and flavors. Unusual. Soft tannins, low acidity. Not sure if more aging improves this. (1522 views)
Tasted by Edouard84 on 1/31/2015 & rated 89 points: Nose was powerful with notes of jammy dark fruits, chocolate, nutmeg and even some cinammon. Palate was surprisingly fresh with a high acidity.
Still a bit over the top to my palate but a solid Zin (1329 views)
Tasted by daveste on 8/29/2014 & rated 89 points: smooth, nice food wine. Not much tannin left, acid fading. Still nice Zin fruit, for an older vintage. (1591 views)
Tasted by djarcara on 7/27/2014 & rated 87 points: Medium to full body. Soft tannins low acidity. A bit too alcoholic. Cherry and strawberry. Sweet finish. Drink now. (1682 views)
Tasted by mlwhitfi on 4/19/2014 & rated 91 points: A beautiful, fully mature Paso Robles Zin. Nose of candied cherries, baking spice, briary green & black pepper. Palate of fruit, cassis, cedar & earth, finishing with pepper & spice (2016 views)
Tasted by mlwhitfi on 4/19/2014 & rated 91 points: A beautiful, fully mature Paso Robles Zin. Nose of candied cherries, baking spice, briary green & black pepper. Palate of fruit, cassis, cedar & earth, finishing with pepper & spice. (1797 views)
Tasted by sdf on 3/1/2014 & rated 88 points: Typically solid product from Ridge. Still fresh flavors of spice and fruit. (1883 views)
Tasted by theguy on 12/24/2013 & rated 90 points: Inky dark purple. Orange limb.
Very good balance between fruit and tannins. NOT a fruit bomb.
Red cherry, vanilla, currants, wood. Peppery mouth feel towards end. Finishes with leather and vanilla.
Sophisticated Zin. (1543 views)
Tasted by JC Cab on 9/26/2013 & rated 88 points: Nice zin...great price to quality. Candied cherry and vanilla on the nose along with a bit of baking spice. Well balanced palate of red fruit, vanilla and a bit of oak. Tannins are integrated now keeping the alcohol in line. Medium finish. This is NOT an overripe cali zin thank goodness! (1807 views)
Tasted by timewithwine on 9/1/2013: Our third Zin of the day with BBQ, good company and a great race from Atlanta. A deep and primary purple showing the incredible youth of this wine. This is more claret like than the 2010 Ridge and Hug, but it is still young. The back label, written in ‘08, suggests this will be best in 2012 and 2013. Well, if that’s the case then it is just approaching “best” and I suspect it will be “best” between now and 2020. Loads of rhubarb, sweet Zin funk and toffee and mocha notes. Ok, some sweet vanilla somewhere in there also. Nothing but wonderful Zin exuberance here. My first taste of this vintage. 100% Zinfandel. 14.5% alc. With pork BBQ (yes, more BBQ). Recommended. (161 views)
Tasted by Benj on 1/24/2013 & rated 89 points: In Vino Veritas Session 2 (MIT): Black grape + cranberry + plum nose. Pretty vanillic - plenty of oak. Very juicy, fruity palate - tastes a lot like candy. Extremely tasty if you like that kind of thing. A little over-the-top for me, but excellent stuff regardless. 100% Zinfandel. 14.5%, $29. (3076 views)
Tasted by rharl on 11/24/2012 & rated 89 points: Drank this following a 08 LC Cherry Red -- very much points out the contrast to the GSM+pS in the LC, the 100% Zin in the Ridge was simple and drinkable, but paled... this tasting says 'drink up', though may not be fair comparison. (2605 views)
Tasted by ruffem on 10/6/2012 & rated 90 points: Nicely balanced wine with complex flavors, brightness and good depth. Good example of what a zin should be. (2667 views)
Tasted by SaxSF on 2/25/2012 & rated 94 points: Light, complicated (3259 views)
Tasted by kosinski on 12/4/2011: Decanting balances the acidity and brings out a richer mouthfeel. (3514 views)
Tasted by whminor on 11/4/2011 & rated 88 points: Perfectly good, though not memorable. Good value. (3248 views)
Tasted by Vinyljunkee on 11/1/2011 & rated 90 points: I enjoyed this one more than the last bottle. Definitely needed some decanting, would recommend an hour or so. Medium in body, nice viscosity and deep red color. Aromas of dark fruit, pepper and a bit earthy on the nose. Raspberry, Blackberry and hint of pepper on the palate. Nicely balanced with appropriate sweetness and soft tannins. Medium finish. I wouldn't call this chewy or jammy, but more elegant in style. (2975 views)

Ridge Zinfandel Paso Robles

(Spring 2012 Ridge Wine Club notes)

Benito Dusi Ranch. The 1967 vintage was our first wine from this vineyard. It is planted entirely to zinfandel, unusual in a vineyard more than 80 years old.

Purchased by Sylvester and Catarina Dusi in 1924, the property has been farmed since the 1940s by their son Benito, the owner.

Wines from this location consistently show deep, juicy bramble fruit on the palate, along with notes of black cherry, gravelly earth, and rich chocolate.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
