| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.3 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 12 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by winemaker on 12/10/2017 & rated 91 points: Popular with our dinner guests with lamb curry. Consistent with my previous notes. (943 views) | | Tasted by winemaker on 9/2/2017 & rated 91 points: Better than the last bottle. This has mellowed to a good place. PnP. Zalto Bordeaux glass. Still pretty dark red. Muted nose. Pretty tasty, but lacks a sense of place. Correct. Not worth $60 per. This has actually held up better than I thought it would. Still, time to drink up. Carries its 15% abv pretty well. (824 views) | | Tasted by Jeff Leve on 5/12/2016 & rated 92 points: Drinking perfectly, the debut vintage for this winery pops with fresh, sweet, ripe, spicy kirsch, pepper, thyme and provencal herbs. Round, sweet, ripe and loaded with fresh, black raspberries, jam and a melange of cherries in the supple textured finish, this is good to go. (1751 views) | | Tasted by Hawk94 on 11/29/2015 & rated 88 points: Pop N pull, very good initial nose with secondary bouquet developed. Thought it gonna be a great wine. First sip was very heavy, over extracted tannins, very bitter, fruits faded, jammy, some minerals, just can't get over the bitterness! Not much going on. Unimpressive, especially for the price, disappointed. (1152 views) | | Tasted by winemaker on 12/25/2013 & rated 88 points: Popped and poured. The overt jamminess of the fruit here has faded a bit. Dark purply red in color. Muted nose of garrigue. Decent wine. Not great and not worth the money. There are many $30-40 bottles of CdP that are much better than this. This has a bit of a bitter note on the finish that detracts from the overall impression. (1713 views) | | Tasted by winemaker on 6/4/2012 & rated 92 points: Beautiful dark ruby color on this wine. Initally smelled of cherry and some wood. With some air the oak impression disappears. Smells of raspberry, cherry and a whiff of blueberries. No brett in this wine that I can smell. First taste is the same as it smells with all the berries, but there is some underlying subtle garrigue and iodine. Some astringent tannins on the finish that is fairly long. I think this wine will develop some additional complexity with a bit more bottle age. This wine is good, but seems pricey for what it is. (2192 views) | | Tasted by Sotto325 on 4/14/2012 & rated 89 points: I suppose that better 07s may evolve in the next 5 years, but this second bottle was disappointing. Almost single note after 3 hours of decanting. No alcohol or tannin, but a jammy ,smooth, viscous experience with no hint of the briary, woodsy, defined black cherry and currant and wild scent of a typical CDP. (2223 views) | | Tasted by Sotto325 on 4/17/2011 & rated 90 points: My first 2007 CDP--after a serious of really disappointing lesser Rhones which had convinced my that the marketing hype was just that. This was very enjoyable though not profound . Clearly not yet developed in its complexity. But the overripe fruit was handled very nicely-- not the typical briary hunter's nose of CDP but rather a smoother nose of blended dark red fruit and blackberries. The palate was lush, not overripe, with a plum center and a modern blend of stewed red fruit, smoke, and some hint of the woods. Good finish. I hope that it does develop more complexity. (2376 views) | | Tasted by ews3 on 5/26/2010 & rated 89 points: Very jammy fruit and extreme concentration at first -- a little off-putting by the jamminess... However, after about an hour it rounded out a little bit and had some dark smoky fruit underpinnings that were nice. Medium finish. (2267 views) | | Tasted by cpsmith33 on 10/31/2009 & rated 93 points: great CDP. especially for the price. nice fruits and spice, vanilla. smooth palate and long finish. will be buying more. (2226 views) | | Tasted by ews3 on 10/27/2009 & rated 91 points: Zachys Fall 2009 Food & Wine Extravaganza (The Lighthouse at Pier Sixty (NYC)): nice black fruit. plum pudding. (6273 views) |
| Les Halos de Jupiter Producer Website - Read more about Les Halos de JupiterRed Rhone Blend Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.
A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce. "As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
