Tasted by wadcorp on 1/9/2013 & rated 89 points: When originally purchased, I thought that the tannins were much too forward. It's calmed down quite a bit. Much more integrated. Loads of black bramble fruit, plum, anise & the right amount of oak. Perhaps a hint of eucalyptus. Drink now or over the next two years. (2717 views)
Tasted by TPV Wine Cellar on 9/10/2012: Good. Could have used more age. Had it with pâté, cheese, bread. Lent well. Cline always does well on Zinfandel. (2753 views)
Tasted by jwells on 4/11/2011 & rated 89 points: Nice fruit up front and a smooth, spicy finish. (3157 views)
Tasted by Gig Harbor Estate on 1/28/2011 & rated 83 points: This vintage may need a bit more time in the bottle. Spicy with a bit of tobacco. The spice seemed a bit out of balance which may mellow given some more time. (3261 views)
Tasted by jdb123 on 1/19/2010 & rated 88 points: Very tasty, though may need a little more time, somehow. A little sharp, but overall, rich, nutty, tobacco flavors. A solid wine, though I like the $14 2008 Ancient Vines better. (1651 views)
Tasted by cmr on 11/7/2009 & rated 90 points: Another excellent Cline. This one didn't have the oak influence up front that the Live Oak had but concentrated more on the wonderful berry fruit and spice. The 2nd best of the night between the three, the other one being Big Break. (1696 views)
Tasted by Nutty08 on 10/4/2009 & rated 90 points: Boerne Wine Club - Syrah and Zinfandel (Scenic Loop Cafe): I found this surprisingly complex. Nose with mostly dark fruits, with wild berry highlights. Big round palate with candied fruit, and strong oak and vanilla influence. Lengthy dark fruit finish and chewy tannins. Was open, complex and balanced. An impressive Zin for me (who isn’t that into Zin). 90

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
