Tasted by jfarley3 on 1/16/2012 & rated 87 points: Good but not great. There many other Oregon Pinot Gris that are more interesting for the same price. Does have a crisp clean profile, but aromatics are not as complex. Has mild floral and melon notes on nose with some mild pear on palate. (3079 views)
Tasted by bg3034 on 1/4/2011 & rated 86 points: Very light greenish yellow color. Grapefruit and pineapple on the nose and palate. Not acidic at all. Crisp when cool, but felt flat in the mouth when it warmed up. Easy drinking and went well with our asian dish, but all in all, a very simple wine. Good for what it is. 86pts. Aloha! (3540 views)
Tasted by gmbdds on 11/25/2010 & rated 87 points: This is a situation where an 87 is a compliment and not an insult. This was clean, fresh, easy to drink and a good start to Thanksgiving dinner. It doesn't have layers but it's good at what it does. (3567 views)
Tasted by dhammer53 on 10/17/2010 & rated 88 points: Just a pleasant drinking wine. Some sparkle and fruit notes. Delicious with cheese before dinner. (4120 views)
Tasted by Wine Sparty on 3/21/2010 & rated 89 points: Very nice Pinot Gris at a good price point. Nice light fruit flavors and not too acidic. (4228 views)
Tasted by kbrater on 1/16/2010 & rated 89 points: Pinot Gris with delicious fruit forward yet elegant finish. Honey flavors. Had at a restaurant with fish and was paired well. Will have again. (2302 views)
Tasted by ethralls on 1/9/2010 & rated 90 points: Like gewurtz with floral notes and spice. Alsosome grapefruit on the most. Good acid and citrus on the palate (2409 views)
Tasted by windypinot on 8/8/2009 & rated 85 points: Crisp, extremely light color; tart, mineral flavors; missing a bit of the fruit and balance of the previous vintage (2497 views)
Tasted by skieser on 6/10/2009 & rated 86 points: Almost Gewurztraminer like nose showing grapefruit, baking spice, a touch of orange rind and pineapple. Suprisingly dry on the palate with dominating grapefruit notes. Easy drinking, nicely balanced and affordable. Its a little light for my taste and a touch non-descript, but tasty enough that I would buy again at the price. I hoped for a bit more after hearing how good this vintage is supposed to be. (2774 views)
Tasted by mwhitmoe on 6/6/2009 & rated 87 points: Bright, simple nose. Refreshing fruit, balanced nicely acidically. Fine quality for the price. (2775 views)
Tasted by vino vidi vici on 4/28/2009 & rated 88 points: Got this bottle through the quarterly cellar club shipment. Very light color, body & taste. Nice wine, but I'm not a fan of Pinot Gris in general. So light, it lacks personality. I prefer wines with more character. Sauvignon Blanc is better for easy drinking with all it's citrus overtones. 2008 Ponzi Vineyards Pinot Gris

Vineyard Wine Shop (Denver) club notes: The Willamette Valley in Oregon produces one of our best domestic Pinot Gris. This winery has been around fom the beginning of winemaking in Oregon and the daughter has taken over the "reins." The wine is filled with peach aromas and flavors with a tinge of citrus and mango. It is the perfect wine with salmon.

Pinot Gris

From Pinot Gris Wikipedia entry:
Wines made from the Pinot gris vary greatly and are dependent on the region and wine making style they are from. Alsatian Pinot gris are medium to full bodied wines with a rich, somewhat floral bouquet. They tend to be spicy in comparisons with other Pinot gris. While most Pinot gris are meant to be consumed early, Alsatian Pinot gris can age well. German Pinot gris are more full-bodied with a balance of acidity and slight sweetness. In Oregon the wines are medium bodied with a yellow to copper-pink color and aromas of pear, apple, and/or melon. In California, the Pinot gris are more light bodied with a crisp, refreshing taste with some pepper and arugula notes. The Pinot grigio style of Italy is a light-bodied, often lean wine that is light in color with sometimes spritzy flavors that can be crisp and acidic. Although this wine can be very sweet, it will begin to lose its acidity when it is nearly ripe.

Pinot gris is considered an "early to market wine" that can be bottled and out on the market within 4–12 weeks after fermentation.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

Willamette Valley Vintage Reviews

Willamette Valley

Willamette Valley Wineries Association | Willamette Valley AVA Wikipedia article

#2012 vintage:
"Broadly speaking, the Willamette Valley's 2012 pinots are fleshy and fruit-dominated, with round tannins and forward personalities. The fruit tends to the darker side of the pinot spectrum--think cherry and blackberry rather than strawberry and raspberry, much less cranberry and redcurrant--and this gives the wines massive crowd appeal. The best wines also have the depth to age, so don't be fooled by their accessible nature in the early going." - Josh Raynolds

#2013 vintage:
"The key to a successful foray into the ‘13s is first to understand that in most instances the wines lean to the red fruit side of Pinot Noir; they tend to be tangy and tightly wound but often lack concentration. While some wines may put on weight and gain sweetness with bottle age, that’s a gamble I’ll personally leave to others. The 2013s also tend to lack the tannic structure for more than mid-term aging although they will likely endure on their acidity, which I suspect will usually outlast the fruit in this vintage" - Josh Raynolds

#2014 vintage:
"The 2014 vintage in Oregon may be remembered as the vintage of a lifetime [for growers] . . . these wines as they will be similar to the 2009 vintage . . . lovely, ripe, rich, deeply concentrated and aromatic" - winebusiness.com
"The conditions made it relatively easy to make good wines, with no worries about achieving ripeness, and the lack of frost risk allowed us to keep grapes on the vine as long as we wished." - Casey McClellan
