Tasted by Carniolan on 11/25/2012 & rated 87 points: deep ruby almost opaque; intense sweet spicy nose with hints of chocolate, anise and menthol; taste acidic, tart (5128 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 6/24/2012 & rated 90 points: Bottle two on day two of Family Vacation. Excellent Shiraz. Showed even better than Reilly's Stollen Block from yesterday. (5725 views)
Tasted by Dokken on 4/30/2012 & rated 92 points: Deep garnet showing some development. Evolved & complex with white pepper, leather, mint & violets over a core of blueberries. Elegant on palate despite its generous alcohol with a fresh & vibrant acidity and firm fine-grained tannins. Long chocolatey aftertaste. RTD will possibly keep for another 5 years. (5852 views)
Tasted by Ranjan on 2/26/2012 & rated 90 points: Deep ruby color, popped and poured, better after 1 hour. Spicy nose and palate. (6002 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 2/2/2012 & rated 90 points: Very nice when you need a red on short notice. (5847 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 11/5/2011 & rated 90 points: Opened for an evening nip and finished the next day. Dark fruit forward with a hint of leather on the finish. Very nice. (2316 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 9/20/2011 & rated 90 points: I actually opened this because we were pressed for time and didn't have much breathing time. The wine opened up quickly and provided a nice pairing with perfect panko chicken. It seems that each bottle we open gets better. This was an excellent QPR purchase. (2342 views)
Tasted by elevation02 on 4/25/2011 & rated 91 points: Jim Barry makes such great wines. This one isn't overly complex but the combination of dark fruit, pepper and spice on the palate makes for a zoomer of a wine. Love "The Lodge" and still have a bottle left! (3 views) (3143 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 4/17/2011 & rated 90 points: We let this one sit for 4 hours open and then another half hour in the glass. So very good with a great blackberry/cherry flavor and maybe a hint of chocolate. (3045 views)
Tasted by Ranjan on 3/13/2011 & rated 90 points: Opened and drank, great nose, excellent Aust Shiraz, long finish (3238 views)
Tasted by bkrup on 3/11/2011 & rated 88 points: Enjoyable. Black Cherry with slight vanilla notes and pepper spice on the palate. Full bodied but with a shorter than expected finish. (3275 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 3/6/2011 & rated 90 points: Again, good fruit and smooth. I gave this one an extra point because I drank it over 3 days, vacuum sealing in between at room temp. I was very impressed that it held up well with no significant change. So many it seems tend to get what I call a bit Porty but this one did not. (3184 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 1/28/2011 & rated 89 points: No change from previous bottle. (3469 views)
Tasted by SDBhatt on 1/27/2011 & rated 87 points: Agreed with some of the others that this was better on the second night. I felt like it would have revealed much more if I paired it with beef/pork so I'll hold judgement until I get my hands on a second bottle. (3515 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 1/14/2011 & rated 89 points: Fruit Forward with Blackberry dominant. Smooth Tannins. Verry nice. Would buy again at this price point. (3733 views)
| Tasted by hoservin on 12/15/2010 & rated 91 points: Drank over three nights. Similar tasting notes to previous bottle. However, menthol was less noticeable (I believe this is the medicinal characteristic that others have noted), and that made the flavors more fully integrated and let this bottle stand out. | Tasted by hoservin on 11/11/2010 & rated 90 points: Nice Australian Shiraz. Blackberries, white pepper and licorice aromas. Full bodied with blackberry, spice, and menthol on the palate. Drank over two nights, and liked it better on the second night. Very enjoyable as a week night wine and overall a good value. (4341 views) |
| Tasted by andtheodor on 10/21/2010: Blind free-for-all: Tasted blind. Licorice, oak, dark sweet fruit. Tones of cinnamon and nutmeg on the nose. This is really big! Some nice minty/vegetal streaks to complement the ripe fruit. I actually liked this more than the awkward Massena as it was much more in balance and had better framing for the big fruit. | Tasted by ewisor on 10/11/2010 & rated 84 points: Popped and poured. Consumed over 2 evenings. Not over the top (like some Aussie wines can be). On the 1st night, nose seemed a bit muted and flavors were somewhat muddled on the palette. More interesting characteristics showed up on the 2nd evening. Maybe I was not focused on the wine the 1st evening as I was the 2nd... (4388 views) |
Tasted by whits on 9/20/2010 & rated 85 points: perfumed well with eucalyptus and dried red fruit, fruit-forward with grippy acid, smooth, flavorful, not extremely complex but pleasant on the palate with white pepper, blue fruit and hints of cocoa, should match well with red meat (4656 views)
Tasted by acox on 9/2/2010: This continues to be a favorite. Strong euclyptus aromas with flavors of dark fruit, smokiness and spice. Lighter bodied, good QPR. Have enjoyed this since the 2005 vintage and is still a winner. (4563 views)
Tasted by wino_tim on 7/7/2010 & rated 87 points: Relatively light for the style, but still generous with flavors of curry spice, eucalyptus, sweet wild blackberries and American oak. Notably elegant, and somewhat light bodied, this still offers copious sweet fruit, oak, and spice. (4697 views)
Tasted by khmark7 on 6/29/2010 & rated 86 points: Dark and rich without being over the top. LOTS of eucalyptus, and an almost acidic synthetic finish to the wine. Good wine for a steak or burger. (4800 views)
Tasted by GGG on 6/25/2010 & rated 88 points: Heavy fruit, black berries, leather, cigar, and a enjoyable smooth finish no tannins really noticed, and the bugs on the deck really loved it too! (4815 views)
Tasted by toddmk on 5/21/2010 & rated 86 points: I thought this wine was just OK. Structurally solid yet a little bit hot as previously noted. A fruit forward wine with fine tannins but perhaps slightly medicinal. For under $15, still a fairly good deal but I think there are better deals in this price range. (4695 views)
