Tasted by CRUSHER on 7/25/2021 & rated 96 points: wonderful peach nose. excellent (984 views)
Tasted by SineQuaNon on 6/20/2020 & rated 93 points: Continues to go exceptionally strong! Remember it is semi sweet (1307 views)
Tasted by portman63 on 7/31/2019 & rated 90 points: Quite a rich and honeyed wine. Not in dessert territory, but definitely in the late harvest and vinified into a Spätlese sweetness territory. Peach and ginger focused flavors. Enjoyable on it's own, but more difficult to pair with a dish. Probably best with rich-sauced spicy asian fare. (1432 views)
Tasted by CRUSHER on 5/29/2016 & rated 97 points: beautiful aroma of apricot, nectarine, tangerine and honey. I thought this was a great wine (3136 views)
Tasted by Derek Darth Taster on 5/18/2016 & rated 93 points: Pop and poured. Quick session at ES. From Clarence.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, gold colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of honey, beeswax, oil, yellow flowers, ripe peaches and apricots. Developed.
On the palate, medium sweet (Indices 4), medium- acidity, medium+ alcohol (13.5%), full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of honey, beeswax, unctuous sweet oil, ripe peaches and apricots. Medium finish.
Very good quality. Amazing concentration and ripeness of fruit here. Drink up over next 1 year, not for further ageing as it is already become very fatty. Not for the faint-hearted white wine drinker. (3519 views)
Tasted by devraj on 12/31/2015 & rated 93 points: Medium gold in color. A very aromatic nose reveals enticing aromas of ripe apricots and nectarines, tangerine oil, smoke and brown spices. A rich and unctuous palate shows waves of ripe apricot jam, citrus oil, caramel and a long aftertaste of honey. Lovely for a 14 year old Zind PG. (2685 views)
Tasted by cannym on 5/16/2015 & rated 93 points: Mid-gold. Honey, apricots, almonds, peppery spices, ripe melons. Full bodied, rich but with a steely backbone, finishing dry. Very long. Really great complexity, very good wine indeed, drinking beautifully now. Worked very well with a smoked trout salad. (2732 views)
Tasted by shutto1992@gmail.com on 3/1/2015 & rated 96 points: Served at room temperature. Medium golden color. Peach, apple, lychee. Exceptional balance with just the right of sweetness to have with a slightly spicey meal and not seem like dessert. At a recent wine tasting which featured high end red burgundies and 82 bordeaux, this wine was one of the most talked about wines. It is exceptional and drinking perfectly now. (2555 views)
Tasted by AudunG on 9/21/2013 & rated 90 points: Light golden color. Expressive aromas of exotic fruits, like apricot and pineapple. Big, sweet and concentrated. Not the longest finish, though. After 5 hours in the glass, mostly raisiny flavors. Will last for many years, still. (1863 views)
Tasted by JBVino on 6/16/2013: consumed with lunch on Father's Day...at or just past its best. fun wine....really good acidity/verve with apricot and citrus (1930 views)
Tasted by CRUSHER on 1/20/2013 & rated 94 points: fruity peach, pineapple with honey almond and spices
excellent (1991 views)
Tasted by devraj on 8/31/2012 & rated 94 points: Bright gold color. Lovely notes of apricot jam, cooked peaches, orange marmalade and botrytis spices waft on the very expressive nose. Ripe citrus orchard fruit tart, sweet vanilla cream, caramelized nuts frame a broad, oily and lush palate. This was beautiful paired with a Thai style roasted duck and pineapple red curry dish. (1902 views)
Tasted by Ltim BE on 4/8/2012 & rated 92 points: Intense rich and amazing. What more to say about this lovely, almost VT Pinot Gris. Typical Rotenberg. Amazing pairing with cheeses. (2070 views)
Tasted by MBannon on 4/30/2010 & rated 92 points: Yum, delicious stuff. Smoky and minerally and starting to develop that oily texture like Riesling gets. Seemed more Auslese-ish than Spatlese-ish to me. (2066 views)
Tasted by ArieS on 3/9/2009: 2 '01 Pinot Gris from Zind-Humbrecht; 3/8/2009-3/9/2009: Indice 4. Beautiful gold color.
On the nose some apricots, botrytis.
On the palate some orange marmelade, green tea, spices.
Such a great 'freshness' on the mid palate and a medium to long finish. This is slightly bitter with good acidity
Perfect with pate and cheese. Wow! (2746 views)
Tasted by JeffGMorris on 12/21/2008 & rated 93 points: Medium gold in color, this was true to form to its' vineyard of origin in every way. Muscular bodied with a great concentration fo fruit. Ripeness which is impossible to avoid in Rotenberg unless one manipulates the wine in the cellar, but not overly sweet ( it will dry out more in the next decade ). Wonderful flavors of lime and orange zest and the Rotenberg-typical roasted fruits and red clay. Medium to long on the finish. 50+13+13+8.5+8.5 = 93 (2089 views)
Tasted by schaykin on 11/16/2008 & rated 93 points: Lively, sweet fruit, oily texture, nice acidity, long finish. Overall, a very good wine. (2868 views)
Tasted by DaleW on 10/31/2008: We discussed sweetness level, to me this seemed Spatlese-ish. Ripe
sweet peaches and yellow plums, a pleasantly oily texture, excellent
length. Has that gingery spiciness you sometimes get with PG. I liked
this a lot. For me ZH is a bit like Schoenberg or Ornette Coleman- I
like to try occasionally, I recognize the brilliance behind it, but I
don't want to make it a mainstay (I'll stick to Bach, Coltrane, and
Trimbach for my standards). Still, quite tasty. A- (2056 views)
Tasted by MRichman on 10/30/2008: Dinner at La Sirene (NYC): Really beautiful wine. Bright, sweet, honeyed without being over sweet. Clean and clear with a touch of petrol and spritz. Like a lush Spatlese in profile and weight. Long finish. A real treat.

Tasted by antiwood on 1/2/2008: A rich spatlese in sweetness. Elegant ... balanced mineral, acidity. Pear tart. Try again in 3-5 years. (2294 views)
Tasted by JeffGMorris on 6/2/2007 & rated 90 points: Dinner at Steve & Barb's house. Steve offered to open this before the rest of the guests arrived. Quite nice to have a ZH opened from someone else's cellar for a change of pace! Medium yellow in color, I feel this wine has closed a bit since my last bottle 6 months ago as it was not quite as exuberant. Smoky on the nose, this bottle clearly showed it's red clay origins. Filled with aromas and flavors of green apples and white flowers. Medium bodied and with a long finish that highlights yellow grapefruits. The sweetness seems to be integrating well being less overt than last time around. Really nice richness and depth. Shedding a little of the youthful exuberance and in transition to a new place that I think will be equally good. 50+12+12+8+8 = 90+ (2171 views)
Tasted by 5laton on 1/14/2007: BAWE does Alsace (Oakland, CA): Pungent nose of candied apple, caramel. Ripe and unctuous on palate, but finishes clean with just enough acid. Excellent, but would be even better with more acid. (3096 views)
Tasted by archer752000 on 3/17/2006 & rated 93 points: Intense yellow gold color. Rose petals, peaches, oranges, hints of honey, cinnamon, with a kick of minerals on finish.
Lovely stuff. Opens up big, very balanced acidity. (2658 views)
Tasted by JeffGMorris on 1/19/2004 & rated 93 points: Yellow gold in color. Full bodied and extremely ripe. Great flavors of very ripe peaches, mirabelles and other yellow fruits. Some smokiness. Perceptible sweetness but nice acidity to match. Really long finish. Very enjoyable with duck pasta. (2839 views)

Zind-Humbrecht

Producer website
Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is one of the stars of the Alsace, in the northeastern corner of France. Fought over for decades by Germany and France, the region, according to Robert M. Parker Jr., “is perhaps the most underrated and underutilized source of great white wines in the world.” Zind-Humbrecht was created in 1959 by Leonard Humbrecht and Genevieve Zind. Their son Olivier is now instrumental in running the 99-acre estate, which the family still owns. Like many Alsatian producers, Zind-Humbrecht makes white wines in varying degrees of sweetness, from dessert whites to very dry wines. The vineyards are planted to 30% Riesling, 30% Gewurztraminer, 29% Pinot Gris, and smaller amounts of Pinot Noir, Muscat, Chardonnay, Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc. Up to 18,000 cases are produced annually. Many are Grand Crus and single vineyard bottlings.

Pinot Gris

From Pinot Gris Wikipedia entry:
Wines made from the Pinot gris vary greatly and are dependent on the region and wine making style they are from. Alsatian Pinot gris are medium to full bodied wines with a rich, somewhat floral bouquet. They tend to be spicy in comparisons with other Pinot gris. While most Pinot gris are meant to be consumed early, Alsatian Pinot gris can age well. German Pinot gris are more full-bodied with a balance of acidity and slight sweetness. In Oregon the wines are medium bodied with a yellow to copper-pink color and aromas of pear, apple, and/or melon. In California, the Pinot gris are more light bodied with a crisp, refreshing taste with some pepper and arugula notes. The Pinot grigio style of Italy is a light-bodied, often lean wine that is light in color with sometimes spritzy flavors that can be crisp and acidic. Although this wine can be very sweet, it will begin to lose its acidity when it is nearly ripe.

Pinot gris is considered an "early to market wine" that can be bottled and out on the market within 4–12 weeks after fermentation.
