Tasted by vitroman on 2/13/2024 & rated 86 points: Somewhat disappointed with this wine, drinkable but unremarkable. Certainly would not buy this again. (116 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 10/4/2015 & rated 90 points: Mike G and Berto visit Cleveland (Italian wines)+ (Willoughby, Ohio): This was one of those wines that over delivered on my expectations. Maybe I gave it the benefit of the doubt in scoring, but why not. First, my wife really liked it, and second, it gave everything one could expect. The nose is pretty classic with cherries, dried cherries, slight roses and even a whiff of tar. Slight tannins. Medium bodied. On the the palate, there is nice juicy cherry fruit here. Good backbone of acidity. Slightly sweet. Nice finish. At 9 years from vintage, I would drink up sooner than later. (3806 views)
Tasted by Uglypinga on 10/3/2015: Fair nose of faint strawberries which follow throught pretty simply on the palate. Good not great. (2956 views)
Tasted by Yagil on 10/27/2014 & rated 89 points: Toast for Hugo before NYC marathon (at Chanoch Reichenberg): classic Barbaresco character
requires at least 2-3 hours of decanting before reaching its optimal at this young age
transparent medium brown-purple
earthy-floral aroma, light fruits with spice hint
medium bodied, grip tannins of a very young wine, very tight, high acidity, mellows with time, good harmony, medium complexity. Overall a good wine requires further ageing. (3815 views)
Tasted by vfortier on 1/26/2012 & rated 91 points: Still too young but was a good bottle (6204 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 12/9/2011 & rated 89 points: Wine is a solid 89 right now, but it is TOO EARLY TO DRINK. Interestingly enough this bottle is on the wine list for Macaroni Grill. Cork popped a light to medium purple with a light to medium stain. No sediment. Less than 1mm cork bleed. Wine wasn't able to be decanted. Poured into the glass a ruby red color with some nice translucency. On the nose was a very floral bouquet, lilac, jasmine. More swishing reveals a little pepper spice, and lighter fruits started to abound. On the tongue was a very young wine, very tight. Acid was high showing immaturity. After opening up slowly throughout the meal, the wine still had an acid mouthfeel, but was very velvety up front. In the middle was some orange zest? The wine finished strong with light fruit noted on the finish. Tannic structure at present undeveloped. Would have liked to have corked it and reopened on day 2, but I have neither the time nor desire at present. Overall a good wine, but currently with an identity crisis. This wine will be a monster in 2016 and likely will be worthy of a solid 93 or 94. (6183 views)

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
