| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.3 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 13 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Beerzebub on 2/19/2015: P&p. Aromas of dark fruit (blackberry/ black cherry) and rocky earth, with a pungent herbaceous streak along the lines of tarragon/basil/anise. Similar elements on the palate, working well together. Fairly grippy tannins, taking a bit of palate acclimation. Good acidity provides lift, freshness, balance. Cohesive and tasty. Significantly more open, balanced and enjoyable than the last time I drank this, in mid-2012. (1752 views) | | Tasted by french16 on 4/20/2014: Oh man this is so good. Incredible freshness and balance for the region. Dark fruits, earthy and mineral notes. (1891 views) | | Tasted by cryptochrome on 3/2/2014 & rated 93 points: After a few hours decanting, it's drinking very well now. Exceptional wine. Not much to add here right now, but given that some people mentioned it was still too youg, I wanted to say it's drinking very nicely now after a few hours of air. (2549 views) | | Tasted by stofken on 11/11/2013: very young, opens up after decanting, bright red fruit, nice peppery note, medium body. needs 2 more years (1832 views) | | Tasted by Rubinstein on 12/12/2012 & rated 89 points: Decanted 12 hours - still did not give much. Needs much more time. 89+ (2084 views) | | Tasted by Beerzebub on 6/2/2012: Fairly closed on the first day, even with several hours in a decanter. Much improved the second day, wish I saved more. Blackberry, raspberry, some heat wrapped in menthol, "scorched earth," and thankfully garrigue, which had been absent. Suave and enjoyable, not sure about the value but it will be interesting to see what it does with age. (1621 views) |
| Clos MarieChristophe Peyrus took over his family’s vineyards in 1991. He has sought council with some of the greatest winemakers in France (Didier Dagueneau, Clos Rougeard, Grange des Pères, etc) and now the French wine press considers his winery to be at the top of the appellation. The 20 hectare property is situated north of Montpellier and the vineyards are scattered around the terraces that rise from the village up to the sharp cliffs that form part of the plateau of the Hortus mountain. The soils are clay and chalky limestone, and all of the vineyards are continuously plowed to force the vines’ roots to seek nourishment deep down in the limestone bedrock. The domaine has been farmed using biodynamic principles since 2000, and no pesticides or herbicides have ever been used. Harvested by hand, yields for the various cuvees vary between 15-35hl/ha. This is one of the great domaines of the Languedoc and probably the most complex and age-worthy of Pic St. Loup.Grenache Blend.
