(5464 views) | | Tasted by wtianseter on 11/27/2012 & rated 85 points: This is a good cab, but I can't see where the pros got their rating. I say this is a solid basic California style cab. To pick at the wine -- it seems to have a bit of uncontrolled astringence and does not flow together like some of the other similar valued cabs. That said, if someone offers it with a nice steak, I would not have any complaints and enjoy it as a good complement. (7516 views) | | Tasted by talnelso on 6/25/2012 & rated 78 points: Very sweet and hardly any finish at all. Wouldn't be bad as a house wine purchase, but not a selection I'd serve to my guests. (8533 views) | | Tasted by crispino on 1/27/2012 & rated 86 points: I like mxpbuy's comment - fruit bomb! Sweet (though not cloying) dark fruits, with a rich, almost thick mouthfeel. Not astringent or tanniny at all. Quite mellow in the finish, sadly not all that long either, but it has a lingering dark, rich fruit taste. (9315 views) | | Tasted by jgimpelson on 12/24/2011 & rated 86 points: Surprisingly good. (9704 views) | | Tasted by mxpbuy on 12/19/2011 & rated 88 points: Sampled 12/16/11. A simple and very drinkable fruit bomb that fades after mid palate. A wedding wine. (6063 views) | | Tasted by DanSm on 8/27/2011 & rated 84 points: More a generic red than a true CS. (4901 views) | | Tasted by Winecat on 7/27/2011 & rated 85 points: Good house wine (4744 views) | | Tasted by clio_wine on 6/23/2011: Good. Menthol, eucalyptus, vanilla and cigar smoke on the nose. Dark bramble fruit -- mostly blackberries -- on the palate. Long, lingering finish. All-in-all a nice everyday cab. <Wow/Very Good/Good/Fair/Plonk> (5011 views) | | Tasted by yankee22 on 6/20/2011 & rated 74 points: Nose: Plumb, prune, raisin. Basically smelled like musty dried fruit with some menthol. Yuck. Taste: Very pruny, little tannins, black tea. No finish to speak of and unappealing on all fronts. (5121 views) | | Tasted by dfsommer on 5/24/2011 & rated 80 points: Disappointed with this wine. Medicinal on the nose. Astringency and bitterness on the finish. (5305 views) | | Tasted by Winecat on 2/23/2011 & rated 82 points: Good table wine. Predictable as in the past. This bottle was fruity and young. (5651 views) | | Tasted by rickmiller61 on 2/15/2011 & rated 82 points: The wine looks Garnet colored. The legs are Fast. It smells like Raisin, Raspberry, and Alcohol/Hot. It tastes like Black currant (cassis), and Raisin. The body is Medium/Full. The wine is textured Fleshy. The wine finishes Short. (5864 views) | | Tasted by veni_vidi_vinum on 2/14/2011 & rated 88 points: One of the better inexpensive Cabernet's out there. Always good. (5733 views) | | Tasted by Colemanwinery on 1/21/2011 & rated 75 points: Didn't like it (5910 views) | | Tasted by BIGwine on 12/30/2010: Brought to us for dinner by a friend. In review, the price of the wine is worth being a third bottle. Enjoyed the wine with a smoky flavor without a lot of tannins. (6208 views) | | Tasted by wineotim on 12/18/2010 & rated 87 points: Bright, fresh, and ripe style, with a distinctive plummy finish. Competent everday table wine. (5786 views) | | Tasted by AWittine on 11/21/2010 & rated 84 points: Deep red color. On the nose: subtle red fruit, moderate oak giving vanilla and light cigar box aroma. Medium body, good fruity initial attack, light pepper on the mid palate which is good but it has a little heat on the finish that is nor great for me. (5587 views) | | Tasted by Phredd on 11/1/2010 & rated 82 points: Dark purple red, but also very slightly translucent, this wine has a very sweet, light, distinctly boysenberry aroma. It is really quite like boysenberry pie, with a bit of dark smoke behind it. It is clear there is a fair amount of oak treatment here. Those flavors mostly repeat on the palate, with a touch of rubberiness coming through later. Medium bodied, at most, this wine is really quite syrah-like. I'm not sure I would have pegged it as cabernet in a blind tasting. Food will hide what is otherwise a slightly unpleasant finish, but overall this wine is too light and too one-dimensional to be very good. It is inexpensive, and it has quite a bit of the one or two flavors it does show, so it is not awful. But I could find a hundred wines that do this, even at the low $11 price point. It doesn't do anything to set itself apart. Unless you happen to love boysenberries, this is pretty much a forgettable effort. (5762 views) | | Tasted by cpdwines on 10/26/2010 & rated 84 points: I'm all about inexpensive good wines that are everyday drinkers. However, this wine did not show up as advertised. yuk. (5738 views) | | Tasted by sawira on 10/17/2010 & rated 86 points: A bit syrupy. (5787 views) | | Tasted by sawira on 9/19/2010 & rated 87 points: The best of a dozen Cali Cabs from 2007. Open, varietally correct, some depth and balance. Good QPR. (5951 views) | | Tasted by Robo148 on 9/19/2010: Good for the price (80-84) (5790 views) | | Tasted by Lambdoctor on 9/13/2010 & rated 87 points: Good for Monday Night Football. Works w Brie & Bread, full bodied with a hint of huckleberry. (5996 views) | | Tasted by Chrismmcguire on 8/25/2010 & rated 90 points: Nice! | Liberty School Producer websiteCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Central Coasthttp://www.ccwinegrowers.org/links.html
