Tasted by Jason Rzutkiewicz on 3/14/2013: (13.8%) After 3+ years in the cellar this one ($7 made by Bob Lindquist of Qupe) still shows loads of fresh (almost crunchy) fruit. Fresh is not the end of this story as this is extremely focused (thought perhaps a bit linear) through its spiced, white pepper finish that lingers nicely. Certainly on the restrained side for fruit in a California Syrah but much to my liking. I’d say short term aging paid off here! Shame is I only have one bottle left… (2042 views)
Tasted by Jason Rzutkiewicz on 1/7/2013 & rated 86 points: (13.8%) This one starts smooth and nimble on a balanced palate before really opening up to show some bacon notes, focused red berry flavors and a lingering white pepper finish. Older and still nice but just different rather than better. Still two more of these to go… (2028 views)
Tasted by Syrogr on 1/23/2011 & rated 89 points: Toothy and sweet, but peppery and complex. Great value. (3091 views)
Tasted by Jason Rzutkiewicz on 12/20/2010: I know this has disappointed some but I am still a fan (pre CellarTracker blog post here -> http://jasonswineblog.com/2009/11/10/2008-vintjs-syrah/). This shows nice balance and the fruit becomes more prevalent as you let it breathe. Still three more of these to try... (3347 views)
Tasted by eldiabloazul on 7/11/2010 & rated 83 points: Not bad after open a few hours... (3501 views)
Tasted by Syrogr on 2/15/2010 & rated 90 points: Explosive deep rich Syrah. Pungent floral bouquet, cherries and charcoal, a raging river of blackberry pie. (1770 views)
Tasted by WetRock on 2/14/2010: Nose shows very ripe fruit with a touch of VA. Some meat aromas from behind boysenberries. Palate shows a sharpness due to the VA but is lean showing little oak or softness. Decent acidity and no tannin. Solid for the money but seemed to show overripe for me. (2160 views)
Tasted by SacramentoCharlie on 2/10/2010 & rated 76 points: Spicy but much thinner than the first bottle and even a bit of a bitter finish. dumped. bottle variation ? (2169 views)
Tasted by bxuz on 2/1/2010 & rated 87 points: Impressive for the price. Almost opaque purple. Good dose of black pepper on the nose complimented by ripe red berry fruit. Shows excellent restraint and balance. Well made. (2213 views)
Tasted by ocattorney on 12/31/2009 & rated 84 points: Nice priced simple syrah. Dark fruit on the nose with some tar and earth. Thin mouth feel with dark fruit and a pepper finish. Not over the top fruit, simple wine. (2583 views)
Tasted by jakuda on 12/8/2009: Dark plum in color. Sweet plums and flowers aromas. Some aromas of pepper at the end. In the mouth it tastes off-dry. Perhaps some intended residual sugars to appeal to consumers at this price range? ($7/btl). Straightforward berry flavors. Juicy with minimal tannins. Medium-bodied but not lush. This wine will be appealing to new wine drinkers. A cheap, and good introduction to a non-alcohol fruit bomb syrah. (2550 views)
Tasted by eldiabloazul on 11/21/2009 & rated 83 points: OK with simple dinner...basic syrah flavors (2385 views)
Tasted by cofidis2 on 11/15/2009 & rated 85 points: Not super complex but good red fruit that is not over ripe with some moderate tannins and a medium length finish. While not a blockbuster this is a very good sub-$10.00 wine. (2680 views)
Tasted by SacramentoCharlie on 11/15/2009 & rated 84 points: pepper and a bit of floral. with a little air there was some improvement. not bad for $7 (2465 views)
 Tasted by mocamro on 10/28/2009 & rated 83 points: 83 - Good
a simple wine, but not too bad for the $$$...on a wed night with some chicken, did just fine (2454 views)

2008 VINTJS Syrah Central Coast

13.8% alc. Made by Bob Lindquist
“VINTJS Central Coast Syrah is a blend of Paso Robles (warm climate) and Santa Barbara (cool climate) grapes, aged for nine months in neutral French barrels. From the cool climate we get spice, acidity and balance, while the warm climate contributes soft, round, lush fruit. Together, they create a stellar Syrah in the classic Rhône style, redolent of black cherry and pepper.”

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
