Tasted by treph on 6/30/2021 & rated 90 points: Brick colour, at his or just over prime. (1517 views)
Tasted by Jeroen Simons on 12/13/2020 & rated 92 points: Complex and inticing nose. Medicinal : eucalyptus, mint, orange peel. Black fruits blackcurrant, cassis. Nice juicy crunchy acidity still very alive. Finish is dark and bold. Wine needs to breath to show its full potential. I recommend at least one hour on karaffe. (1706 views)
Tasted by french16 on 10/4/2020: Interesting to drink after the 2010 Tempier Tourtine I had a few days before.
This was way more rustic and darker.
Classic Mourvedre nose, earthy, leather. Chewy and dense, not a generous wine in the sense you have to work for it.
Maybe it was the bottle but it seems to be in a shut down phase. (1806 views)
Tasted by vulgar little monkey on 5/31/2020 & rated 93 points: So, I had a great bottle of the 2007 X a few months back and was curious about whether the wine receiving normal élévage would show just as well. It is a bit younger seeming and more fiercely tannic than the X but still very enjoyable right now with the rich Flannery Picanha. Brmbly fruit and lots of garrigue and that unmistakeable bark-like note I get from Pradueax. Less of the florals that can come with age but plenty of fruit to balance the tannin. Will gain complexity and mellow some with age, but it's in a fun spot now with the right food. (2007 views)
Tasted by retired_and_roving on 8/3/2018: From the coravin by the glass list at Park Avenue Wines (Portland, OR). My first time with this producer and I quite enjoyed this wine. Lots of bramble and rustic garrigue here, dark fruits and spice and just quite tasty. The structure is here for continued aging and it would be fun to taste an older vintage. Something to seek out in future. (3283 views)
Tasted by violistus on 12/19/2017 & rated 94 points: This was ravishingly and energetically tight and closed tonight right from the bottle. The juice is inky ruby purple, and there were prominent dusty tannins on the finish, which closes off sharply at the moment. Mesquite and berry aromas leap from the glass, and there's quite a large, polished, and mature frutti di bosco note. A slight chill flattered this baby. I have a few more bottles and will wait 5 years at a minimum. Patience for this wonderfully traditional beast! (3292 views)
Tasted by DaddyNeedsPow on 7/15/2017 & rated 93 points: Huge earthy tannins cloak a wonderful core of dark berry. Either we got used to those tannins or it calmed down after 20 or 30 minutes in the glass. The nose is very attractive if not overly complex or flamboyant. (3643 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 12/23/2016: Primary ruby color. Medium weight, attractive glycerine that gives a good, mouth coating feel. Spice and blueberry fruit, good drive, and the tannins which stuck out 9 months ago seemed much tamer now. I really liked this as a hearty winter wine with a beef roast. (4061 views)
Tasted by flussier on 11/18/2016 & rated 89 points: Robe assez évoluée et profonde. Sur le fruit cuit, cassis, sous-bois et fumé. Belle complexité, mériterais être décanté quelques heures. Peu encore agréablement évolué. Bonne longueur en bouche. (3815 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 3/1/2016: Dark ruby center with minimal lightening. Blueberry and menthol. Lovely ripe blueberry fruit and spice on the attack, medium weight with no heat or overripeness whatsoever. Fantastic energy and back end minerality, brown spices, and grainy tannins which still need to resolve. The deep soil on the finish coats the mouth for several minutes. (3739 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 8/30/2015 & rated 94 points: Very dark red violet color; aromatic, reduction, creosote, char nose; delicious, tight, complex, dried berry, creosote, tar, mineral palate with firm tannins; needs 4-5 years; long finish 94+ points (922 views)
Tasted by adamtaki on 2/20/2015 & rated 90 points: Could use a few more years in the bottle. Tannins were heavier at the end, but some blueberry on the nose and at the front of the pallate. Other than in need of some time, a very nice bottle made from a very old grape. (4389 views)
Tasted by PaulusLoZebra on 2/1/2015 & rated 88 points: Popped and poured. Beautiful deep garnet color with dark reflections. Needed air and time. Much better on day two. Eventually, it had a very complex and subtle nose of cherry and blueberry, licorice, leather, bramble and minerals, occasional light floral scents. Hints of sweet spices. In the mouth, strong minerals, strong acid, big tannins and alcohol. Very long and vinous, slight dustiness. Not an easy wine. I will buy more of this, but for drinking in 2020+. Right now, I would say that the whole is less than the sum of its parts. (3669 views)
Tasted by yofog on 2/18/2014 & rated 89 points: Overripe for my palate. Broad and furry. (5143 views)
89+ pts (5225 views)
Tasted by french16 on 11/30/2013: This has started to close a little bit and tannins are more upfront on the finish.
Still it is a great Bandol with beautiful cherry fruit and a touch of blueberry. Great balance and never heavy.
More austere than the previous bottles. Time to forget them a little while. (3691 views)
Tasted by englishman's claret on 11/30/2013 & rated 87 points: Lacquer and spice. Neither that pleasant nor that interesting. (4781 views)
Tasted by johnstrass on 8/25/2013 & rated 88 points: Very rich medium tannins that contribute to an extremely long finish.
Paired with the wrong dish ( an herb roasted chicken ) but should pair well with a meat dish. (3966 views)
Tasted by Zoltán Németi on 7/22/2013 & rated 90 points: Visiting Chateau Pradeaux in July, 2013 (Chateau Pradeaux, Bandol): Warm year, higher alcohol (14.5%), maybe faster developing. I prefer the 2008. Some tobacco and licorice, plums, dried plums on the nose, smells serious. Already started a bit to mellow on the palate, full, acidity OK, maybe more tannic than the 2008. (3112 views)
Tasted by whits on 7/20/2013 & rated 92 points: this is a wine to go after if you like uniqueness and character, berries and clouds of dust on the nose, very earth-driven and dry, dried flowers, lavender, tree bark, cocoa and black plum on the palate, quite complex, quite young, these drink well now and can sleep for a decade or more, an overall powerful young Bandol (2656 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 4/29/2013: Three days open and still going strong! (2718 views)
Tasted by astroman on 4/26/2013 & rated 90 points: Very smooth and youth. Well balanced bottle was open at 10am and tasted at 430pm and tannins still very integrated. (2935 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 4/25/2013: Half bottle. Deep color. Berryish fruit and licorice with just a touch of alcohol on the nose. Medium weight. Raspy red and black fruit with good sense of minerality and strong acidity. As opposed to the nose, not overripe in the mouth. This definitely needs some time to round off the more jagged edges. (2747 views)
Tasted by french16 on 3/13/2013: So young but so good ! Very mourvedre nose, a little animal and dusty but with a clear mineral cut (iron). Rustic. Floral, leather and stem. Really complex for such a young wine. Cassis and blackberry with maybe a hint of fresh red fruits (stewed strawberry and raspberry). It is much more rustic and Pradeaux like than the '06 we had a few months ago and maybe a little riper but it shows the same perfect balance.
I love Pradeaux. (2617 views)
Tasted by lwinep on 3/13/2013: The wine is a medium garnet color with a medium+ flavor intensity on the nose. Aromas include pepper, black cherry, licorice, cinnamon and does not have the primary fruit aromas (the wine is developing). On the palate, same flavor aromas and with medium acidity and med+ tannins, High alcohol. The wine is still young and will benefit from aging. (2287 views)

Château Pradeaux

Producer website, in French and English.

Exerpt from a write up at the Mad Rose Group, which represents the US importer, Rosenthal Wine Group:

: "There is the appellation of Bandol with its plethora of producers, some good, some mediocre; and then there is Chateau Pradeaux, the unique, inimitable, standard bearer for this ancient wine-growing district. The Chateau Pradeaux is situated on the outskirts of the town of St. Cyr Sur Mer which lies directly on the Mediterranean Ocean between Toulon and Marseilles. The estate is owned by the Portalis family which has owned this property since before the French Revolution. The domaine is currently under the direction of Cyrille Portalis, who continues to maintain the great traditions of this estate.

: The vineyards are cultivated in as natural a manner as possible with reliance on organic methods. In fact, during the spring months sheep are permitted to graze in the vineyards thereby eliminating any need to use herbicides and at the same time providing a natural compost.

: The wines of Pradeaux are brooding and difficult. Produced on the back of the noble Mourvedre, Pradeaux in its youthful stages is tannic, backward, and sometimes ornery. The wines are not destemmed; "elevage" in large oak foudres can last as long as four years; the essential blend is at least 95% Mourvedre; vines of less than 25 years of age are not used for the reds.

: Chateau Pradeaux "Cuvee La Rose Folle", is the standard Pradeaux. It is composed of 100% Mourvedre (old vines). The nose is a mix of honey and white flowers with a hint of animal fur; the color is ruby red; the fruit stains the palate and is lengthened by a near-perfect sense of roundness; the final attack is of ripe tannins that are dusty and sweet.

: Chateau Pradeaux "Cuvee Longue Garde", is born exclusively of the oldest Mourvedre vines on the estate (average age 45 years). Extraordinarily dense, with black notes to the color, the "Longue Garde" is marked by a strong scent of Provencal herbs combined with smoked red meat. This is a complete wine with incredible length; the flavors remind one of macerated plums and black currants. The super-ripe tannins are powerful and in perfect balance with the high fruit extract. This is the wine for the ages.

: Although the major part of the vineyards are planted to Mourvedre, the Chateau Pradeaux Bandol Rose is composed of Cinsault and Grenache as well as Mourvedre. After a short maceration on the skins, in order to extract a light color, the juice is fermented at low temperatures to retain freshness, fruit and bouquet. After being aged in stainless steel cuves, the wine is normally bottled in May or June of the year following the harvest. It is one of the richest of the Roses of France; dry but full-bodied with a floral bouquet. It is a very limited production wine as most of the production at Chateau Pradeaux is used to make the formidable Bandol Rouge."
