Community Tasting Notes (average 90.9 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 67 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by RHPrague on 12/31/2020 & rated 90 points: Lovely balance but slightly losing bite, I thought. Think it might be slightly past its best. Certainly the idea it could keep well to 2034 seems way off. (1396 views)
Tasted by Racer117 on 11/27/2020 & rated 93 points: Much improved from a bottle in '12. Quite dark golden color with nose of pleasant mustiness, apple, yeast. Still packing plenty of effervesce and acidity with flavors of apple, mushroom, bread. (1349 views)
Tasted by BrunelloBob on 10/19/2020 & rated 90 points: Apple, baked apple, bread. Good, but first bottle was better (1457 views)
Tasted by Rezy13 on 1/27/2020: Golden yellow; opened 2 days earlier then sealed, this is showing better, nose went from nuts and mushroom to buttery brioche, lemon, golden apples, still fresh acid but settled with the time open- could even use some more, nicely aged, still could use more time imo, need to wait a while for the remaining’08s. (1855 views)
Tasted by pilot360 on 1/5/2019: Easily Best bottle yet of this- Briosch heavy with lemon citrus, chalky minerality , crisp refreshing and no oxidation. Well balanced.
Very good (2145 views)
Tasted by nphase on 12/17/2017 & rated 90 points: I have no idea where I got this or why. Must be a pinot heavy champagne. Severely golden in color, Reminds me a bit of a vintage veuve, in all the good ways. Brioche on the nose, and still nicely acidic and crisp, with a touch of green apple, mousse, and a loooong finish... would say good QPR if it weren’t for the age. (2160 views)
Tasted by salua on 11/7/2017 & rated 95 points: A few more years of bottle age has improved this wine, yet it has years ahead of further development. Great toasty nose, fine bead with a long full bodied finish. Excellent bottle of champagne. Will wait a few more years to try again. (2091 views)
Tasted by profiler54 on 1/24/2015 & rated 91 points: Clear Light straw yellow color Nose of yeast citrus - grapefruit, chalky minerals. Nicely balanced, medium plus acid. Medium plus finish. (4973 views)
 Tasted by eyesnwine on 12/28/2014 & rated 92 points: classic style bubbly, nice balance of fruity and yeasty components;
I sense aging will not improve it further (4452 views)
Tasted by mxpbuy on 11/14/2014 & rated 91 points: Plenty to like about this Champagne with good mixes of citrus, acidity, yeast, straw and hints of red fruit. Finish was shorter than desired. (4273 views)
Tasted by salua on 10/17/2014 & rated 93 points: A fabulous bottle of bubbly. Golden colour, yeasty on the nose and palate. Great fruit, balance and bead. Has several years of future development ahead. (3912 views)
Tasted by profiler54 on 9/17/2014 & rated 92 points: Clear Light straw yellow color Nose of yeast citrus - grapefruit, chalky minerals. Nicely balanced, medium plus acid. Medium plus finish. (4193 views)
Tasted by salua on 8/17/2014 & rated 92 points: Yeasty nose, apples on the front. Crisp and clean with slightly sweet finish. Great with food. Excellent wine. Plenty of development ahead. (2110 views)
Tasted by profiler54 on 7/15/2014 & rated 92 points: Clear Light straw yellow color Nose of yeast citrus - grapefruit, chalky minerals. Nicely balanced, medium plus acid. Medium plus finish. (2448 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 9/20/2013 & rated 91 points: An odd sparkling wine in my opinion. It produces lots of bubbles, but they don't react in the mouth. The wine itself tastes terrific with citrus and vanilla notes. (3340 views)
Tasted by mnoljo on 7/22/2013 & rated 91 points: tasted young and fresh on the lighter side but very well balanced. It will be interesting to watch this over time (3305 views)
Tasted by thelostverse on 7/20/2013 & rated 92 points: Opened by Mark. Notes of green apples and toasted bread. (3359 views)
Tasted by Vino Me on 7/20/2013 & rated 91 points: Opened by Mark. Light yellow color. Would not know it was 11 years old. Notes of apple, biscuit and some fig. 91 points (3351 views)
Tasted by Number51 on 7/1/2013 & rated 91 points: Pear, lime, sour dough, and honey find the balance towards fresh high toned acidity, and a good dose of bubbles adds to the overall vibrancy. This appears younger than 11 years old, and I feel comfortable to leave my remaining bottle alone for many years. (2941 views)
Tasted by Wolfgang60 on 5/20/2013 & rated 90 points: I liked the nose with citrus, lemon, grapefruit scents. Dry, with noticeable acidity the champagne is medium bodied with butterscotch hints on the palate. I would assume in a couple of years this champagne will merits a higher rating. (2643 views)
Tasted by cookiefiend on 1/2/2013: Crisp and clean, with slight butter and peach/lemon flavors and a long finish. I'm sure this would be fantastic in a few years, but someone else will have to tell me because my remaining 3 bottles won't last much longer. (3003 views)
Tasted by redwiner on 12/25/2012 & rated 89 points: Balanced and easy to drink, but seems like it may not be ready. I believe this will improve over time, perhaps 3-5 more years in the bottle? (2565 views)
Tasted by La Cave d'Argent on 9/17/2012 & rated 84 points: The Semicentennial Birthday "Season"; 9/16/2012-9/18/2012 (San Francisco and the Napa Valley): This pale yellow bubbly shows a very simple nose of lemon zest and minerals. The medium-sized bead is moderately active and the citrus-dominated palate is as equally unidimensional as the nose. The best that can be said about this wine is that the acid is nice and this same crispness carries through to the medium-length finish. Very much overrated! Serve this with some good oysters...ones that should love the acid accompaniment while easily outshining the wine. Drink now-12/17. (4864 views)
Tasted by mxpbuy on 6/16/2012 & rated 93 points: Sampled 6/15/19. A little softer and rounder than my last bottle. A full head of bubbles. Very nice citrus and background tropical fruit elements. Some straw. (3479 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 6/2/2012 & rated 91 points: Bread dough and lightly oxidative nose. Minerally, citursy palate. Very solid. A step up from the last btl. (3466 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
