Tasted by oldwines on 5/28/2023 & rated 92 points: Nice mature cab with dark red and black fruit, licorice and menthol. Nice fruity mid palate and a long or medium long finish. Nice mouth feel. Really nice overall. (665 views)
Tasted by gharter on 2/18/2023 & rated 91 points: PnP. Needed time as it started out with a slight bitterness in the finish. After 30 minutes, that resolved. Garnet red with light bricking at the rim. Very aromatic with blackberry, currant, cassis, black tea, spice, and earth.
Medium body with black fruits, cassis, spice, earth, and tea. Silky smooth finish. Not sure it will improve, but showing well. (598 views)
Tasted by rmcnees on 2/14/2021 & rated 92 points: Dark garnet inky/purple colored, medium-full-bodied, complex but nicely balanced and integrated flavors of blackberry and black currant fruits, notes of cassis, black tea, subtle notes cinnamon spice, Linda noted sprites of menthol or mint, what one pundit referred to as a "rather warm finish", turning to supple tannins on a bright expressive lingering finish.

Tasted by CRUSHER on 6/29/2020: reaching the end of the drink window but still good (1749 views)
Tasted by Grape_ape on 9/9/2018 & rated 91 points: Still somewhat youthful, but developing some nice aged secondary flavors. Dark red fruits, black currant, tobacco, plum. Long finish, still some tannins lurking. Very, much better than I was expecting. (2738 views)
Tasted by beej on 5/13/2018: Wow
Still drinking strong.
Unctuous.
Notes of coffee slate and charred bones along w a spicy layer of fruit on a medium length finish.
Good for several days of enjoyment. (2617 views)
Tasted by cupoverflowing1 on 1/20/2018 & rated 92 points: great value; plenty of life left and not even brown in the glass; held up well over several hours (2575 views)
Tasted by beej on 1/6/2018: Great value upon purchase, great value upon consumption.
Lasts over several days one glass at a time rather effortlessly.
No visual signs of deterioration.
Perhaps some on the nose but the palate experience is complex complete w jammy dark fruit and a robust if abbreviated finish.
Glad I still have quite a bit to enjoy. (2055 views)
Tasted by beej on 12/28/2017: Evergreen, plum, almonds on a soft nose.
Dark and rich colored w soft thin legs.
Parker nailed thin wine in its infancy.
Left bank smoke and chocolate go straight up an impatient post palate nose.
Sweet cherries and braised somethin’ followed by a more than medium finish.
The wine was opened about 5 mins prior.
Imagine what tomorrow will bring. (1899 views)
Tasted by cowtownguy on 7/22/2017 & rated 91 points: Have cellared since purchase, still unsure how it had held up. Simply fantastic. Not sure if it could go on further but very enjoyable now. (1820 views)
Tasted by hoservin on 6/26/2016 & rated 91 points: Aerated remaining half of a magnum with a Vinturi and decanted for one hour. Aromas of black cherry, currant, licorice and underbrush. Ripe black and red fruit, dark chocolate, licorice, leather and dried herbs on the palate with good persistence. Full bodied. Served with grilled pork chops and a red wine sauce. (2054 views)
Tasted by Rollerball on 4/18/2016 flawed bottle: Noticeable TCA ruins the last bottle of a fully-mature case. (2196 views)
Tasted by Quarked on 1/10/2016 & rated 92 points: Really hit its stride 3 hours after opening, complex Bordeaux blend showing dark fruits, graphite, cedar and completely integrated tannins. Wonderful with filet mignon. Probably at its peak. (2256 views)
Tasted by hoservin on 12/27/2015 & rated 90 points: Coravined half a magnum, aerated with a Vinturi and decanted for two hours. Aromatic nose of currant, wild berries, cocoa and dried herbs. A soft black and red fruit core with chocolate, graphite and mineral notes with a hint of green pepper. Leads to a medium to long, dry finish. Medium to full bodied. Very pretty, mature Cali-cab. Plan to finish the remainder of the magnum in 2016. Paired with roast beef. (2219 views)
Tasted by Rollerball on 9/26/2015 & rated 92 points: Everything is softening about this, though there's stlil plenty of fruit and structure. Really in such a beautiful place. Heavenly with New York Strips. No immediate rush, but probably a good idea to finish these in the next couple of years. I'll probably pop the final bottle of this long-cherished case in 2016. (2179 views)
Tasted by wino121 on 9/22/2015 & rated 91 points: Ready to go, dark fruit, soft tannins, subtle oak helps hold it together.
drinking as well as it ever will, at or near peak.
Drink now. (1561 views)
Tasted by tom_wine on 8/29/2015 & rated 87 points: Soft mouthfeel with sweet cherry and red currant flavors and medium body. Not impressiive but better than I expected from a former company that spelled its name backward to come up with a label. (1457 views)
Tasted by Rollerball on 1/4/2015 & rated 93 points: Complexity, depth, balance, sweet sophistication. This has really evolved into an incredible wine with several years to go in this plateau. 93-94. Best 2015-2017. (2028 views)
Tasted by travelme on 7/22/2014 & rated 93 points: Popped and poured through Vinturi with some friends. Cork broke in half which had me fearing the worst. However, I agree with the last two posters on this one. My last and only bottle and it was delicious. Highly recommended and a really enjoyable wine that thrilled once it had a few minutes open. Highly recommended to drink this one now since I doubt it gets any better. (2338 views)
Tasted by Rollerball on 6/16/2014 & rated 93 points: Still improving, with sweet kirsch from well-integrated oak, late-unfolding complexity, and great texture. Probably years left on this. 93-94 (2367 views)
Tasted by TallMikeWine on 4/28/2014 & rated 94 points: This took an hour to open up, but THEN....bam!!! Perfect in many ways. Beautiful plush fruit (dark red, currant), tannins all smoothed out but still evident, and spicy oak that kept rising to the surface. By hour number 2 'twas pure spiced jam. Medium to full body still. Good work St. Clement. An aged beauty of a wine!

Fun fact: This wine was developed by the corporate folks who purchased St. Clement, in response to the Super Bordeaux blends (namely Opus) popular at the time. The "exotic sounding name" will tell you, if you read it backwards, what this corporation is most known for. (2371 views)
Tasted by NPolitan on 3/27/2014 & rated 91 points: darker than I expected; strong forward flavors, coats the palate, still some tightness indicating more life, not elegant; a rustic feel (2441 views)
Tasted by Rich.Herbs on 12/13/2013: A real pleasure - fruit, spice, tannins, all well integrated. Other Oroppas vintages seemed unbalanced, but this one was perfect. (2262 views)
Tasted by beej on 7/9/2013 & rated 90 points: My first 90 points for a qpr wine in a while. Just so freakin' well made and balanced.
Not a weak moment from nose to finish. Dark fruit and tannin coat the entire mouth for a 30 plus second finish.
Plenty of life left........ (2494 views)
Tasted by dharlow on 2/7/2013 & rated 94 points: just keeps getting better....sorry it was my last '01 (2976 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
