Community Tasting Notes (average 92 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 183 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Philippe_C on 5/5/2024 & rated 95 points: Nice nose of honey, yellow ripe apple, citron confit... Huge concentration of confit citrus, yellow apple, very nice! (230 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 9/17/2023: Pausing for the Cause Fundraiser and Dinner (Obelix - Chicago IL): Certainly fully+ mature, but the best bottle of this vintage I have tasted in over a decade. (1692 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 9/17/2023 & rated 93 points: Good color, expressive nose, developed over time n the glass and a long finish. (840 views)
Tasted by liber on 6/30/2023 & rated 95 points: 21st of 24, decanted 30 minutes, perfect level, quarter soaked cork, better than bottles earlier in year, more flesh and mid palate drive, fine line, length and layering as ever, nice citric cut, some upside based on this bottle showing at the more youthful end after 21 years, 10 years. VF (18.5). (1044 views)
Tasted by drjb on 6/5/2023 & rated 96 points: This again opened beautifully with a mature golden colour and a nose that initially was a bit tight and musty but which opened over an hour with Meyer lemon, green apples, pineapple, limestone and touches of honey, white flowers and nutmeg. The palate shows pure rich fruit characters with a savoury edge of nutmeg, straw and honey. There is terrific drive and grip in this wine that finishes with quite intense minerality. This a very fine mature Corton. (1075 views)
Tasted by Hugo Hilde on 5/24/2023: A great, though quite mature nose of candied orange peel, nuts, brown butter and dried heather.

Fine, though still prominent tannins, a fair bit of oak. Cinnamon, limestone, a saline influence and a long finish with caramel and dried mushroom. (1209 views)
Tasted by liber on 4/7/2023 & rated 94 points: 20th of 24, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, slightly leaner with citric edge more prominent than Jan bottle, hence marginal downgrade, plateau, no rush. F+ (18). (820 views)
Tasted by liber on 1/29/2023 & rated 95 points: 19th of 24, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, unchanged since last bottle in August 21, wonderful line and length, more orchard fruit and lemon with fine mineral and steely spine, plateau, no rush. VF (18.5). (1069 views)
Tasted by hajoha on 8/11/2022 flawed bottle: 2x magnum oksidert.😩 (1519 views)
Tasted by schan109 on 10/12/2021 & rated 95 points: PnP. Opening up after 30 min in the glass. This beauty has glorious golden color and the complex nose with lemon, citrus, pineapple, lime and honey. The palate is fully integrated honey, white flower and rich body with mineral. Very nice (1939 views)
Tasted by drjb on 9/27/2021 & rated 94 points: This opened beautifully with a mature golden colour and a nose that was pure and correct for age with lemon, green apple, pineapple, limestone and touches of honey, white flowers and cereal grains. The palate shows pure rich fruit characters with a savoury edge of cereals and nuts balanced with an intense minerality and grip that lifts this out of the pack. Mature and beautifully structured now this BdM shows what Corton Charlemagne should be. (2018 views)
Tasted by liber on 8/8/2021 & rated 95 points: 18th of 24, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, slightly off top bottles like April's showing more lemon and less overall nuance, fine steel spine however, no rush. VF (18.5). (2021 views)
Tasted by gukarl on 5/30/2021 & rated 93 points: Fortsatt mineralsk og stram, mer smør og nøtter med høyere temp og luft. Perfekt flaske dette. (2126 views)
Tasted by liber on 4/4/2021 & rated 96 points: 17th of 24, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, one of the best bottles so far, wonderful energy and tension for a wine at nearly 20, proper GC weight, nuance and persistence, upside yet based on this bottle and no sense of pox. VF (18.5). (2008 views)
Tasted by liber on 12/26/2020 & rated 95 points: 16th of 24, pnp, perfect cork and level, fractionally less impressive than bottle noted in August, still remarkably fresh, intense and with youthful drive, and mirabile dictu no pox. VF (18.5). (1796 views)
Tasted by liber on 8/8/2020 & rated 96 points: 15th of 24, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level - best showing by far, always believed this wine could become something special and shed early lumpiness and in some bottles disjointed acidity overwhelming the fruit (and don't get me started on POXy bottles!) based on noting just how well this wine ages in good vintages since the 60s, I love the balance and the tense nervy style showing in this bottle grafted onto proper GC weight, with a bit more steel which I'd trade for chalky minerality, this would be a nigh on perfect expression of CC and for me a white Burg at the very top of its game, this wine is so youthful it has 10 to 20 years of potential further development (and if you don't believe me look at the 85, 89 or 90 if you can get your hands on a bottle!) always assuming no POX. VF with upside (18.5). (2025 views)
Tasted by dougie on 6/28/2020 & rated 92 points: Liked better early on. More simple. Not premox. Bought at release and stored properly. Need to start drinking earlier. (1813 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Mitch on 6/6/2020 & rated 92 points: My second and sadly last bottle. This did not live up the first bottle which I had at 94 or 95. No premox, just got smoked by the 2010 BDM CC we had with it which had more of everything. Nothing wrong, just perhaps fading a bit as it seemed by comparison simple, straightforward and not terribly complex. (1663 views)
Tasted by Coblerone on 3/18/2020 flawed bottle: Perfect looking bottle, fill and cork. Badly oxed. (1949 views)
Tasted by liber on 12/1/2019 & rated 94 points: 14th of24, opened 80 minutes, perfect cork and level, bright and youthful, no pox, similar to October bottle, needs time on this showing. F+ (18). (2135 views)
Tasted by drjb on 11/26/2019 flawed bottle: Premoxed. (2076 views)
Tasted by liber on 10/24/2019 & rated 94 points: 13th of 24, opened 45 minutes, perfect cork and level, pale, young, fine typicity, clean, fruit more muted than usual in this bottle. F+ (18). (1867 views)
Tasted by liber on 7/16/2019 & rated 87 points: 12th of 24, pnp, perfect cork and level, normal appearance, but incipient POX, stripped of fruit and citric cut, nutty edge ,slightly odd, drinkable but far from what it should be and clean bottles. At best G+ (15.5), normally VF. (2060 views)
Tasted by BradE on 4/29/2019: Two bottles, both in terrific shape. Lovely wine. (2384 views)
Tasted by gbow on 11/18/2018 & rated 94 points: Still young and hardly evolved into middle age. Sublime. (2292 views)

Burgundy-Report (11/1/2005)
(Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne) Medium-pale lemon-yellow. A high-toned, slightly alcoholic nose that slowly turns from green to yellow-skinned fruit. The palate already shows fine, soft texture and an impressive length. Sweet from the ripe fruit with super balancing acidity. This is a very round and tasty wine that shows a modest burst of fireworks on the mid-palate. Already the oak is mainly consumed - very good Corton-Charlemagne. I'd drink this over the next 18 months and then leave the rest for 8+ years.

Burgundy-Report (11/1/2004)
(Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne) A young, pale colour. A wine whose aromatics major on fruit. Seems fat, but needs just a little more time as there's still a little oak marking the palate. Gives the impression of lower acidity, but perhaps that's due to the extra fat. Probably starting to sing as you read this - or leave until 2015+

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
