 Tasted by Shiaxonna on 1/3/2016 & rated 90 points: Dark golden color. Very expressive bouquet. Gives me marzipan, fried lemons, butter, yoghurt, pastry, newly mowed grass and lots of forest mushrooms. Vibrant and complex nose. The palate is a bit less exiting at first. Lemon candy and a watery feeling. Unbalanced towards acidity. But after an hour it wakes up and shows much more weight and power to balance out the acidity. Peaches, tanguerines and bitter almonds. Still lots of mushrooms on the nose.

 Tasted by acb on 8/1/2011 & rated 88 points: I am a little bit disappointed with this wine. I usually go for the similar priced Vinzelles from Bret brothers which is consistently one of the best value whites from Burgundy. I found this much less approachable, there is plenty of fruit and chalk and complexity there, but for me it's just too acidic. (1787 views)
 Tasted by amateurwino on 3/16/2010 & rated 89 points: A bit more toastiness on the nose than the Les Mures; on the palate, a bit more intensity than the rest of the range, but the acidity is also more intense in a way that is not great. 88-89 (1820 views)

Jean-Guillaume and Jean-Phillipe Bret began their winemaking careers in 1992, studying oenology and viticulture at top wine schools in Burgundy and then continuing with practical education at some of the top wineries in the world - Rothschild, Verget, Far Niente, Ridge, Comte-Lafond.
Their estate, Domaine de la Soufrandiere, began in 1947 with a single hectare of vines in Pouilly-Vinzelles (the now famous Climate 'les Quarts'). The next 50 years were spent increasing the family land holdings and working with the Cave Coopérative de Vinzelles, which commercialised nearly all of the grapes in the region. In 1998, the Brets withdrew from the Cooperative in anticipation of Jean-Phillipe and Jean-Guillaume taking the reigns at La Soufrandiere and the rest is history. 2000 was the first vintage that was vinified, aged and bottled by La Soufrandiere.

The Bret Brothers label started in 2001, with the aim of making top terroir-driven wines in Southern Burgundy. Some of the grapes come from their estate land holdings, and some come from single plot vineyards averaging 50 years in age. The Brets manage all aspects of the viticulture process, from bud break to harvest, and work in a completely biodynamic fashion (it should be noted that nearly all of the wines of La Soufrandiere are certified biodynamic).

A favourite of top sommeliers and wine critics alike, the wines of the Bret Brothers are truly wines of people, place and time. They have been championed by the likes of Allen Meadows of Burghound, who writes "If you're not familiar with the wines, I can't suggest strongly enough that you familiarize yourself with them."

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.
