Tasted by ey1294 on 1/29/2024 & rated 90 points: - Garnet color with slow forming legs and aromas of tobacco, smokey and tea. It's balanced and has flavours of black pepper, blackberry, black currant and chocolate with a medium/full body. Smooth texture with a long finish - Decanted 90 minutes. Smoked meat on the nose. Incredibly peppery tannins even after decant. (150 views)

Tasted by sempervinum on 10/16/2021 & rated 91 points: Brick colour. Very little fruit, smoke. Dried fruit after 30 min. Restraines but aromatically good. A very appealing sweetness from ripe fruit, dry good mouthfeel. Ripe tannins. Good with grilled meat and even without food if you like natural winemaking. (598 views)
Tasted by GAET on 10/21/2019 & rated 88 points: Robe peu évoluée.
Nez assez mutique.
En bouche : on sent qu'il y a de la matière, mais qui demande encore à se fondre.
Bien en l'état (1103 views)
Tasted by schiwi on 5/4/2018 & rated 85 points: Ok, aber nicht mehr. (1753 views)
Tasted by Huh? on 10/3/2017 flawed bottle: Corked. Two bottles. Really? (1716 views)
Tasted by GAET on 9/20/2017 & rated 88 points: 75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon
Robe foncée,
Les tanins ne sont pas fondus.
il a fallu attendre 3j avant que les tanins se polissent.
Un conseil, il faut attendre au moins 2 ans à mon goût. (1264 views)
Tasted by zaigham on 5/14/2016: Not a fan at all. Maybe I had a bad bottle however it was nowhere near as a good as other vintages. (1919 views)
Tasted by meqoubal36 on 11/17/2013 & rated 91 points: Nez merveilleusement épanoui, cèdre, fruits rouge et noir (mûre), poivré, bonne mâche, bonne longueur, finale moyenne, un délice ! (2976 views)
Tasted by SLR204 on 8/23/2013 & rated 90 points: Nose of cherry, charred oak and earth. On the palate big black cherry, new oak, smoke & spice, some graphite and light earth. Full bodied, Parker style Bordeaux. Young and should develop - will be interested to see how this compares to the 2000 down the road. Tasty and a great value. The wife loved it. (2598 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 8/4/2013 & rated 88 points: Earthy black cherries, smoke and black raspberries are easy to find in this concentrated, easy to like and already open, Bordeaux value wine. (3196 views)
Tasted by mike410 on 7/12/2013 & rated 91 points: Generous aroma and taste of ripe fruit. Well balanced with nice acidity makes this wine very interesting. Short to medium finish. Medium to full body. Wonderful QPR. (2543 views)
Tasted by d'Yquembe Mutombo on 3/31/2013: The only other vintage of this wine that i've tasted is the 2000, which was complex, utterly delicious, and a massive QPR.

This wine, on the other hand, brings a familiar disappointment that I've experienced with a number of 2009 Bordeaux bottlings from smaller producers. Which is to say that the Fougas is highly polished, free of overt flaws, bursting with fruit, yet wholly uninteresting in an overproduced new-world kind of style. (2361 views)
Tasted by dzitt on 2/13/2013 & rated 88 points: Le vin est rubis foncé. Bien + (1357 views)
Tasted by Bisty on 10/2/2011 & rated 89 points: Good concentration barnyard aromas. Should be very nice in 4-5 years. (1935 views)
Tasted by Bradford on 6/7/2010 & rated 80 points: Bordeaux 2009 Part 2, Grains Nobles: Overcooked veggies, prune, tannic. What a start for the reds! (2595 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
