Stevige wijn, medium zuren, tannines mooi afgebouwd maar wel aanwezig, lange afdronk waarin het fruit en zoethout goed naar voren komt. (544 views) | | Tasted by forceberry on 5/10/2012 & rated 91 points: Very dark red color with slightly mahogany rims. Really characterful nose that is both aromatic and rich, with intense, complex notes of heady florals, ripe blue-skinned berries, sunny fruit and a hint of tropical fruit that would be more at home in some white wine. The moderately full-bodied palate is rather robust, yet surprisingly fresh and light on its feet with flavors of freshly picked dark berries, plummy fruit, some oak spice and a hint of smoke. Lovely acid brightness and complexity with moderate tannic grip. Rather long and juicy finish with aromatic oak nuances, juicy figs, some ripe dark berries and hints of plums with good acid brightness that gives length to the aftertaste.
Though full of ripe fruit and extract, this wine sports really attractive brightness and energy too rarely seen in Portuguese reds. Still on its way up. Very elegant and harmonious stuff; at 9,50€ this is a bargain. (508 views) |

Touriga Nacional is the foundation for many port wines. It's a hearty, thick-skinned red grape with moderate acidity, firm tannins, and black fruit character.ReservaStill Portuguese table wines of designated origin may also be labelled "reserva", indicating an alcohol content of at least 0.5% higher than the legal minimum established by the respective DOC or VR; however, stricter requirements in individual DOCs may supersede this standard.
(Court of Master Sommeliers)Portugal ViniPortugal (Associação Interprofissional para a Promoção dos Vinhos Portugueses/Portuguese Wine Trade Association)BeirasTo the south of both Minho and Trás-os-Montes lies the region of Beiras, stretching the full width of Portugal. Beiras is home to the more well-known DOCs of Bairrada and Dão, along with the less well-known DOCs of Távora-Varosa in the north, butting up to the Douro region, Lafões in the north west, meeting the southernmost part of the Minho region, and the large DOC Beira Interior in the north east and the south east of Beiras. Bairrada lies to the west of the region, though it doesn’t reach the coast, while Dão occupies the central part of the region. |
