On the nose/palette
Honey, apricot, pear , bee wax, citrus the fruits are almost jammy (281 views)
Tasted by Duncan H on 2/14/2021 flawed bottle: Completely gone. (953 views)
Tasted by Genghis88 on 9/27/2019 & rated 91 points: Epic lunch at Papi's Seafood and Oyster Bar

Orange, Iced tea colored
Lots of cooked apricot on the nose, Smells like a Tokaji. Some hints of toast, floral hints, and candied fruit.
Palate follows the nose. Medium finish. Totally on point. Excellent bottle.

Absolutely surprised this bottle has held on this long. It was fantastic and paired nicely the seafood dishes we were served. (1248 views)
Tasted by SteveHyde on 6/10/2019 flawed bottle: Maderized. Stored perfectly so it seems the wine is just much less able to age than I expected. (1166 views)
Tasted by nstow on 1/2/2018 & rated 90 points: 2nd of 12. Cork so tight it broke the corkscrew. Medium bodied, herbs, mineral and oily fruit. Some nuts but fresh and not particulary oxidized. excllent with cheddar. 4/5 (1896 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 2/2/2016 & rated 89 points: Chateauneuf-du-Pape Dinner (Del Frisco - Chicago IL): While I'd consider this oxidative under normal circumstances, I'd almost consider this spring fresh in context of the Beaucastel Blanc VV flight. Pleasant and well balanced with a nice sense of energy on finish. (3761 views)
Tasted by jkoenen on 3/10/2013 & rated 90 points: This bottle had slightly more oxidative characteristics compared to my last one. Lush, thick and ripe, like I remember it. Seemed like it's wonderful acidity and complexity were a tad subdued. Still, a beautiful wine. 17.5/20 (4162 views)
Tasted by jkoenen on 10/22/2012 & rated 94 points: Liquid gold in the glass. Nose presents beeswax, honey, white sultanas, marzipan, dried herbs and nectarine. Only a faint hint of oxidation, which adds complexity and depth. On the palate this is silky smooth, yet very broad and impressive! Again there's nectarine, caramel, truffles, vanilla, honeysuckle and nutty nuances like hazelnut and almond. Great supportive acidity, excellent length. A great and complete wine to drink now. 18.5/20 (4211 views)
Tasted by MC on 8/1/2011: The mystery of these wines continues. This was by far the best of the case - and the last one. Medium gold, nutty nose showing some sherry, but the wine is fresh on the palate with a nice, oily finish. It shows some fruit, but great minerals and not the oxidized wine I have had so many times in the past. So I hope it is not bottle variation, but for those with some left, that this wine has emerged from the dumb state. A-/? (4347 views)
Tasted by MC on 3/14/2010: Similar to last note - dark color, sherry, oxidized. B (4392 views)
Tasted by tonyvelebil on 3/9/2010: Cracked this last night for a glass of wine before heading out to dinner. Ruh roh...dark golden color and yup oxidized. Was it drinkable yes but not enjoyable. Sherry/honey with some stone fruit and acidity left but the strong sherry note was off putting.

I am going to guess these need to be consumed sooner rather than later. I wonder how the Vieilles Vignes version is holding up? (3893 views)
Tasted by rjag on 3/1/2010: Berry Bros 2008 Rhone tasting (1 Great George Street, London): Another of tonight's stunners. (3477 views)
Tasted by PIntag on 10/31/2009 & rated 88 points: Very aromatic and interesting nose. Acidity seemed too prominent -- probably needs more time. Very nice wine nonetheless. (2501 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 9/12/2009 & rated 89 points: Paul Does Dallas - Berserker Style (Eden, Dallas, TX): WIML89-90?

Tasted September 12, 2009 at an offline.

Yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of dried herbs, anise and yellow pear. Flavors of yellow pears and a bit of spice. Light to medium acidity, medium body. Drink now. (3207 views)
Tasted by Tejano on 6/21/2009: Dark gold with a hint of amber...and on opening an immeadiate hit of honey and a strong sense of caramel and a sauterne like personality...on the palate just short of oxidized...some light fruit nuances at mid palate with a firm edge. One bottle left...either it is over the hill...or has been said, will rise a again with mucho time. I will wait... (2834 views)
Tasted by Jeff W on 11/12/2008: Deep gold. Full bodied and powerful. It is in an oxidative phase, which makes it hard to drink, unless you really like that style. This bottle was certainly too old. Whether it is also too young, and will transform itself in due course, I am not sure. I will keep my remaining bottles for at least a couple of years - it's not worth drinking now. (2856 views)
Tasted by MC on 10/15/2008: Dark color, getting the sherry/oxidized flavors to it. Much more advanced than I remember. B+ (2732 views)
Tasted by tacman on 9/5/2008 & rated 93 points: (with white truffle/proscuitto pizza). Stone fruit (peach/pear) and honey, with truffle (accentuated by the pizza) ... this was one of those beautiful food/wine pairings (2820 views)
Tasted by dbkitc on 8/25/2008 & rated 89 points: (at Christopher Daniel – Baltimore) Medium gold. Funky nose of horse and creamed corn. Palate is a bit heavy with a somewhat out of balance finish. Maybe I am being harsh, but I much preferred the 2005. (89) (2656 views)
Tasted by salil on 4/13/2008 & rated 89 points: Masters and Numanthias (Northbrook, IL): Deep gold colour. Nose shows interesting almost oxidative flavours with aromas of marzipan, honey, roasted nuts, flowers, orange peel and white fruits. Palate offers similar flavours, but it has a slightly flabby mouthfeel with low acidity and a medium length finish. (3485 views)
Tasted by Harry Cantrell on 11/12/2007 & rated 86 points: in that funky place. Don't touch for 10 years. It supposedly rises from the flames like a Phoenix (2950 views)
Tasted by Pilot on 9/4/2007 & rated 93 points: Very nice and just my style. Nut, flowers, spices, rhone dust, iodine, subtle salt notes, pear liquer, minerals, limeleaf/limestone gig, fungus with a long subtle finish, moderate body, & moderate plus acids.
Really great food wine as I had Olive Oil dough encrusted wild mushroom and fresh broad beans. (3195 views)
Tasted by reichken on 3/14/2007 & rated 92 points: BYO-CNdP dinner @ La Trouvaille in London
Appearance was yellow gold and viscous. It filled the mouth and was quite full bodied. it was honeyed and creamy butter with a bit oof floral taste. it was quite long on the finish ...really diff kind of white and a very good drink (3589 views)

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
