Tasted by Senso-beak on 3/13/2019 & rated 92 points: Opened and poured....wow, this was singing from the get go. Youthful nose, like it was being sampled at the winery of a current vintage. Purples and blues in abundance, full bodied, lush and lots of fruit initially. With air the fruit started fading, but there's plenty still there. Superb balance, large frame. Lots of big purple here, blueberry, tart cobbler. Quite superb and at peak. One more. (314 views)
Tasted by joet626 on 11/27/2015 & rated 89 points: Large difference of opinion on this of 5 tasters. Some liked, some hated due to "smell". I liked it more over time. Heavy dark fruits on this with an odd finish. Good , but not nearly as good as previous bottle. (766 views)
Tasted by mdmcgonigal on 1/8/2015 & rated 89 points: Spicy dark berry nose. Blackberries with a hint of minerals. Smooth tannins. Bold flavors with a nice, lingering finish. (1095 views)
Tasted by mdmcgonigal on 11/26/2013 & rated 91 points: Wonderful dark berry nose with a hint of pepper. Plum, jam and berry flavors, very soft in the mouth. Nice long finish. (1170 views)
Tasted by joet626 on 3/8/2013 & rated 90 points: This was rich and lush with a heavy plum component. This was WS rated 94 points but I don't get that. A little too "much" for me to love it but it was good. (1550 views)
Tasted by pjfriesen on 8/23/2012 & rated 91 points: Needs to breathe at least an hour. After very smooth with bold yet layered flavors. (1669 views)
Tasted by kanab ram on 3/9/2012: Dark and dense with mouth puckering sweet black/blue fruit and secondary notes of powdered graphic and meat. Grippy tannins and great balance. I can see why WS gave this a 94. Nice QPR! (1145 views)
Tasted by pjfriesen on 2/19/2012 & rated 90 points: I agree it could use another year. Very good but needed decanting and still seemed a little tight. Will get better. Amazing color and nose. (1046 views)
Tasted by pjfriesen on 12/25/2011: Sadly, corked. (1040 views)
Tasted by suburbanfrog on 2/12/2011 & rated 89 points: First day was closed but after second day and beyond, much better. Some notes of smoke and fresh meat. A hint of gaminess and the fruit was there, but more dry than fruity. Nice acidity. With aging, I can see this wine scoring in low 90's. (1237 views)
Tasted by ksimback on 1/8/2011: Opened and decanted, drank over the next 2 hours. Had a very barnyard and smokey aroma with a lot of interesting notes... very concentrated style with big fruit, but balanced very well with good structure. Got better with some time in the decanter... probably best to wait another year or so on this one. (1311 views)
Tasted by monkeylug on 12/24/2010 & rated 92 points: Again not showing too much, but did develop some complexity after about an hour or so. There is certainly nothing wrong with this wine, and the acidity is quite high, but I don't see this at 94 per WS. I see this in the low 90s, even with some age, although I will hold the last bottle a bit and see how it turns out. (1385 views)
Tasted by dvillegas on 11/6/2010: Halloween. Big and fruity. Needs time. (1441 views)
Tasted by monkeylug on 10/16/2010 & rated 91 points: Not as impressive as expected. (1457 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
