Community Tasting Notes (average 88.3 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 41 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by ehaav on 4/22/2024 & rated 90 points: Rock solid. Brief notes from a few nights ago. Crisp pear, underripe nectarine, freshly baked brioche, lemon zest. Rich and creamy texture with a fresh Lazer beam of acidity. Great balance, medium length. Nice fine mousse. Really hard to believe this is $20, it won't exactly blow your mind, but goddamn if the QPR isn't off the charts (26 views)
Tasted by mjwstickings on 5/23/2022 & rated 89 points: This is such superb value for quality sparkling wine, just $20 in Ontario, though that's hardly a surprise as Limoux is one of the best sources in the world for high-value bubbly, rivalled only, for me, by South Africa. Made in the traditional method (like Champagne), it's a fairly elegant wine, even if the mousse is a bit rough, with characteristic fruit notes of lemon-lime, apple, pear, and, towards the finish, grapefruit pith, plus some light bready-biscuity elements and complex minerality, including salty brine. The sweet-sour balance of the fruit, riding a wave of refreshing acidity, is balanced by the pithy bitterness, and overall there's good harmony, if not weighty seriousness here, making for a refined, easy-drinking bubbly that pairs well with all manner of brunch, for example.  Tasted by cono_sur on 4/22/2022 & rated 89 points: This blend of 90% Mauzac and 10% Chardonnay has fresh golden apple and lemon citrus aromas mingling with yeasty and biscuit notes of generous intensity rising out of the glass. On the crisp, light-to-mid weighted palate it has lightly frothy mousse and more ripe apple, lemon citrus, and yeasty notes joined by lightly honeyed and grapefruit flavours in a dry profile with fresh, zesty acidity. Citrus, apple, and yeasty notes linger on the dry, clean, and crisp finish, with very good length.

Tasted by dan_chamberlin14@hotmail.com on 2/25/2022 & rated 89 points: Apple, pear, green apple, and yeast. Really enjoyed this bottle. We don’t drink a lot of bubbly so I normally can’t tell an $8 bottle from a $20 bottle, but we could on this one. (803 views)
Tasted by cono_sur on 5/14/2021 & rated 89 points: Blend of 90% Mauzac and 10% Chardonnay. The medium+ intensity nose offers elegant aromas of ripe apple and pear. citrus, honeyed floral, and biscuity notes. It's medium-full bodied on the weighty, slightly creamy palate with crisp, vibrant acidity and dry flavours of lemon citrus, apple, biscuit, and yeast. It's finely balanced overall with lemon, yeasty, and touches of oyster shell mineral notes on the finish, with very good length.

Tasted by Livonietisr on 7/19/2020 & rated 89 points: Pale color with intense bubbles. With a lovely lemon, apple and brioche aroma. Citrus flavours with some creaminess in the background from the lees and a saline on finish. Feels sweeter than brut, but probably it is Mauzac ripenes in taste. Very good value. (1317 views)
Tasted by forceberry on 12/30/2019 & rated 88 points: A classic Blanquette blend of Mauzac (10%) and Chardonnay (10%). 12% alcohol. Tasted blind.

Pale yellow color. Nuanced and somewhat autolytic nose of yeasty French bread, some slivered almonds, a little bit of brioche, light golden apple tones, a hint of quince and a touch of chalk dust. The wine is ripe, mellow and approachable on the palate with flavors of custard, slivered almonds, some sweet white peach, a little bit of juicy golden apple, light sweet notes of Sultana raisins and a hint of apple peel bitterness. High acidity and soft, creamy mousse. The finish is mineral with flavors of cool stones, some apple peel bitterness, a little bit of sultana, light almond tones and an autolytic hint of brioche.

A sophisticated, fresh and approachable Blanquette. Somehow the wine feels slightly sweeter than it really is (if the residual sugar is within the Brut limits) - but that's the impression I've had with Mauzac before. I guess the fruit profile just is sweeter and slightly raisiny in a sultana kind of way, compared to the other well-known sparkling wines (Champagne, Cava, Franciacorta etc). All in all, a nice and pleasant effort. Nothing too distinctive, but nevertheless a pleasant everyday fizz. (1135 views)
Tasted by slubgob on 1/26/2019 & rated 88 points: Drank work leftover pork, heavy on the fennel and garlic. Elderflower not to the nose. Dry but floral in the mouth as well, a bit of butter biscuit. (1400 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 12/22/2017 & rated 90 points: Light gold color. Drank one large glass over an hour plus. I'll go out on a limb and say if you drank this blind you'd peg it as N/V Champagne and think its rather good for 45 bucks. At a third of that this was really a killer value and overachiever. Well made, pear, citrus, good minerality and some sour dough as well. It was really fun to see wine industry people clamoring for more bottles of this. (1490 views)
Tasted by cglex on 9/10/2017 & rated 89 points: Drank on many occasions. This is my go to sparkler. More enjoyable than all but a few American sparklers, on par with many main stream true Champaigns. At 12.79 per bottle super value. (1198 views)
Tasted by Muledog71 on 8/18/2017 & rated 89 points: Tons of green fruit(Apple, pear) on the nose and palette. Very acidic and mouth filling with a moderate finish. Drank as an aperitif before Taqueria Junction dinner. For $15 we'll done (1080 views)
Tasted by Vinnut on 5/13/2017 & rated 89 points: Light pale golden in color with a steady stream of small mousse. Fragrant & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of fresh citrus of lemons/limes & apples with floral notes, stony, chalky, yeasty, minerals & some toasty notes in the background. Light bodied with a good concentration of balanced & crisp textured, ripe fruit flavors of lemons/limes & green apples with stony, toasty, yeasty & minerals. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present & has a very good QPR. (1314 views)
Tasted by cono_sur on 2/12/2017 & rated 89 points: Blend of 90% Mauzac and 10% Chardonnay. Faint citrus and floral aromas from the cork. Yeasty aromas of green apple, pear, citrus, and delicate floral with a biscuity, leesy, yeasty character on the nose that continues on the fruity palate. It has nice, crunchy acids that balances the sweetness. Energetic bubbles. Finishes dry with bitter notes and very good length. Ideal as an apertif. (1190 views)
Tasted by wdlohr on 12/25/2016 & rated 86 points: Steely sharp and crisp with perhaps some bitterness. (844 views)
Tasted by lovanc@outlook.com on 11/23/2016: Good value sparkling wine. Does not have a long finish but fine bubbles and good acidity with green fruit flavors (25 views)
Tasted by walkers on 1/6/2014 & rated 89 points: Pre-dinner drink on Christmas day. Super value. Good minerality, almost earthy, lovely fine mousse. Buy again. (2214 views)
Tasted by lovanc@outlook.com on 12/28/2013: Easy drinking, green apple. Medium bubbles, a little too "fizzy". (28 views)

Tasted by Matteo Girardi on 4/20/2013 & rated 88 points: WSET DIPLOMA TASTING NOTE
Appereance: The wine is clear, the intensity of the colour is pale and the colour is lemon. The mousse has small bubbles and the persistence is short.

Nose: The wine is clean, it has medium medium- intensity, it is youthful and has aromas of green apples.

Palate:The wine is dry, with medium+ acidity, it has medium alcohol(12%) the body is light and the intensity of the flavour is medium+. The flavours have hints of green apples, apricot and some toasted aromas. The lenght is medium+.

Assessment of quality: It is a very good wine because the lenght is long on the palate, there is balance beetwen acidity and mousse it has enough complexity on the palate, but lack complexity on the nose.

Readiness for drinking/potential for ageing: Can drink now, but has potential for ageing 2-3 years because the good level of acidity

Tasted by mreinitz on 6/4/2011 & rated 87 points: This is really good for the price. Apple is the dominant flavor, with chalky minerality reminiscent of baby powder. That being said, there was a little bit of an alka-seltzer vibe with the texture becoming a tad oily in the mouth. (1727 views)
