Tasted by jviz on 5/9/2024 & rated 95 points: I personally very much enjoy the riper vintages of Raveneau. This glass of Clos was given to me blind. It was fresher and younger than a bottle of 12 Coche Rougeots, and I honestly felt this could have been a 19. It had plenty of verve, and enough richness that we thought the wine might be a Chassagne 1ere. But that’s how tropical and fleshy it is. If there is a critique, it’s that the vintage loses some Chablis typicity, but in my mind, most winemakers these days speak a lot about minimal intervention and crafting, and letting nature do its things. So vintage variation is part of that. And this particular bottle still has a long way to go. (231 views)
Tasted by llink on 8/17/2023 & rated 94 points: PNP. Medium yellow. Sweet powdered lemon candy, iodine and broth on the nose. The palate is full and deep, sweet Meyer lemon fruit and an open knit texture that is enjoyable but lacks tension and acidity; not on par with the 08 Valmur. (631 views)
Tasted by Travislee0113 on 6/14/2023 & rated 94 points: I tasted this bottle during a Chablis night at Sushi Shinkai in Seoul, together with Christian Moreau's Les Clos, William Fevre's Les Clos, and Vincent Dauvissat's Les Clos. As expected and without a doubt, Francois Raveneau's Clos was the final boss and stood out better than others. I loved the finest Chablis poised balance of nose and palate. Alas, its price tag is now at an insane level, I missed the time when the Raveneau was approachable. (701 views)
Tasted by hprphf on 11/19/2022 & rated 93 points: Too young and too intense. Concentrated stone and minerality. Less sharpness in view of the ripe vintage but substantial. 93+ (1171 views)
Tasted by BradE on 6/14/2022: A Trio of Petrus: Pure, clean, and a beautiful Raveneau Clos. It really had that something special. (1800 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 7/18/2021 & rated 94 points: Good focus for the vintage. Clearly Clos but did not have the length one can find in better vintages (2151 views)
 Tasted by Goodwine4ever on 7/19/2020 & rated 95 points: Dégustation a l'aveugle
Quel beau nez ! Grand vin ! (2411 views)
Tasted by hprphf on 2/7/2020 & rated 92 points: Acker 2020/02: Magnum. Fresh, vibrant, not as detailed but flamboyant. 92 (2366 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 2/7/2020: Wines for the Acker Merrall Bicentennial Auction (The Pool - New York NY): Walk around tasting. From magnum. Very rich and powerful with clear Grand Cru density and so much stuffing, yet this didn't seem classically Chablis or particularly minerally, even on its (very long) finish. For Grand Cru Chablis, I would say this is "92 points" today, but I just think it needs more time and will show better with more cellar time, so I choose to be an optimist. But I would prefer other vintages for this great wine (first time I have tasted this 2009). (3180 views)
Tasted by Jammy Wine on 12/19/2019 & rated 91 points: The 2009 Raveneau Le Clos is showing well already. Expressive and bold with intense saline flavours and waxy texture. Though I suspect this is not Raveneau’s strongest vintage, the fruit ripeness is well balanced. Full bodied with broad-shouldered tree fruits and seashell. Drink now to 2037. (91/100) (2405 views)
Tasted by BenBlu on 12/4/2019 & rated 93 points: Initially served a bit too cold I wasn't quite so sure on this one and for me as recent Raveneau Clos experiences go the 2010 clearly had the edge and the 2008 was also superior. The 2009 is a bit fat and clumsy and I probably missed the precision and acidity. (1760 views)
Tasted by Alex G. on 10/27/2019: Magnificent. Reference standard wine that can run circles around virtually all the rest of Chablis and most of the Cote de Beaune.

Chiseled, dense, multi-layered. Needed a couple hours to reveal itself, more and more nuance with time. This wine has a unique ability to match with many dishes that commonly would be associated with red.

Majestic and beautiful, demanding attention and concentration. (1484 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 9/29/2019: Very fresh and just a little shy at first. Really dense and sappy in the mouth, with layered of orchard fruit and preserved citrus in the mouth. It breathes to show some blossom and smoky mineral and it powerful and complex Chablis that is just starting to drink very well. So much more in the tank though. (1272 views)
Tasted by Tony Ling on 9/23/2019 & rated 95 points: Uncorked 2 hours before serving into Zalto Bordeaux glass (“Flower” day): Brilliant medium golden to the eyes.

Citrus fruits like grapefruits, zest peels all wrapped in incredible elegant spices and white florals. Quite hedonistic and deep.

Great harmony of flavours on palate, signature saline minerality and perfectly judged acidity but nothing overwhelming. Calm and confident. Really flavourful and persistent finish with toasty notes.

94-95 points to me on this showing. (1361 views)
Tasted by Alex G. on 8/21/2019: Tsunami of dry extract follows the elegant, graceful, sweet attack. The length and persistence is gobsmacking. I wanted to chew this wine as much as drink it, it was so substantial, so dense. Tremendous minerality and well-balanced acidity. Aroma of white flowers and struck match are accompanied by a Montrachet-like dry honey.

A super Les Clos. This is one of the best Raveneau I have had the privilege to drink, it’s so expressive and balanced. Maybe it gets better but I can’t imagine by much, only different with extended age perhaps. I recommend to drink within a few years to enjoy this brilliant phase. This is absolutely equal to the very best vineyards and producers from Côte de Beaune. (1235 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 8/18/2019 & rated 97 points: Expressive nose displaying intense yellow citrus, lemon oil, lemon curd, honeysuckle, honey, beeswax, a hint of cedar and crushed rocks. Incredible concentration, layers upon layers of slightly coiled yellow citrus fruit, dense yet laser like focus, bright acidity, incredible amount of mineral and a long sweet yellow fruit driven finish with crushed rock and honey at the end. This beautifully expresses the 09 richness and the Les Clos focus and minerality. (1791 views)
Tasted by Barry Rothof on 4/16/2018 & rated 94 points: Lovely nose with hints of stone fruit. Ripeness on the palate with more complexity and concentration, powerful, long and delicious. (2087 views)
Tasted by dvansteenderen on 11/23/2017 & rated 95 points: A private tasting @ JD's home. Tasted blind. This was served in the same flight with the 2009 Les Clos by Dauvissat. This wine for me was the clear winner, a lot more intensity, tension and nerve! (1403 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 6/22/2017 & rated 96 points: Winos' excellent adventure in France; 6/22/2017-6/27/2017 (All over France): Pop and pour, coiled nose displaying ripe citrus, lemon curd, honey, white flowers, saline, strong mineral a la wet stone and a hint of honey. Excellent concentration, oily, dense and coiled. Bright acidity and a long mineral and honey driven finish. With air, it opens up, displaying generous citrus fruit and honey. The ripeness is in line with the other 09 Raveneaus; however, the wine displays a greater precision and focus. Needs minimum ten more years to reach maturity. (5134 views)
92-93+ pts (2833 views)
Tasted by llink on 3/20/2017 & rated 92 points: 2009 Pre-mox dinner assessment, served single blind.
Groups # 1 , My # 1 wine

Medium gold color. Lemony sea breeze and oyster shell on the nose, with some crisp lime rind elements. Lovely palate, lemony, rich and glyceryl without the usual tension and energy that this wine has. Best of the flight but still short of expectations. (2199 views)
Tasted by Fred_Bo on 2/3/2017 & rated 93 points: Tasted from magnum.

This is really freaking great! Immense butter and floral notes with hints of limestone and great integrated oak! Wow!

This is insane in 10-20 years! (1883 views)
Tasted by KenPlace on 12/18/2015 & rated 93 points: Fantastic wine that could have used a couple of hours of decanting to wake up. Great with scallops. (2435 views)
Tasted by Alex H on 11/6/2015 & rated 89 points: Tropical guavas, nashi pears, a little closed Tonight. Still very mineral. Hmmm not sure if this is going into a slumber. (2650 views)

Les Clos

Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos exact outline

Les Clos is arguably the finest grand cru vineyard. Les Clos has greater density and power than the more elegant Vaudésir It is a deep and compact wine. The strong mineral core is of polished steel and this is enveloped in a luscious depth of fruit. If Vaudésir is the queen of the grand crus, Les Clos is the king. It ages wonderfully – a minimum of 10 years. It’s a large sunny vineyard, (28.39 hectares) facing south. It is quite rocky and has a higher level of limestone.

It is also a vineyard in Bussières

2018 vintage: "marked by a wet spring, a superb summer and a good harvest"

2021: "From a general standpoint, whether for white, rosé or red wines, 2021 is a year marked by quality in the Rhône Valley Vineyards. Structured, elegant, fresh and fruity will be the main keywords for this new vintage."

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
