Popped and poured, tasted blind on day one, drunk over three days.
Clear, deep golden color. Clean, medium+ intense, developing nose. Fresh, still some citrus, honey, spices, ripe stone fruit, floral. Quite massive.
On the palate it reveals that it is a massive Auslese. Sweet, dense, creamy, almost oily. But also with a racy acidity, that struggles with taming the sweetness. Lots of ripe fruit, honey, spices. Dense, deep, complex, massive, almost mouth coating, long, spicy, fruity-sweet finish. Drinks great now, but will survive at least another decade. 92 (388 views)
Tasted by NostraBacchus on 5/7/2023 & rated 94 points: Showing similar to my last bottle 3 years ago. Intense, ripe, pretty sweet but with incredible acidity providing lots of tension. I love that interplay of smokey botrytis, high acidity and beautifully balanced sweetness. This still has quite a few years ahead. Lovely. (372 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 5/6/2023 & rated 93 points: Coronation party. Amber color, botrytis nose and richness on the palate reminding me of a Sauternes. Apricot, smoke, but luckily with much more acidity than a Sauternes. (554 views)
Tasted by Caruso on 10/22/2022 & rated 94 points: Deep golden with amber hue. Melon, brown sugar, blood oranges, spices, mangos and miinerals. For the mighty, yet balanced palate (with the exception that for many wine lovers it may be to sweet) the nose is a bit tight and of low intensity. On the palate it is intense, yet keeping the balance of sweetness and acidity, at least for my personal taste. I never had a wine with such bottle variation. This one is excellent to oustanding again showing all the nuances, complexity and play one could expect because of its pedigree. Long fruity finish. 5/12/18/8. -2026 (193 views)
Tasted by ubercuvee on 8/9/2020: Intense sweet quince on the palate with a bit of a waxy texture. Frankly a few more years to shed the sweetness should help. (481 views)
Tasted by Mmark on 5/3/2020 & rated 92 points: No formal notes but this was really good. Sweet and acid balanced, deep and long (383 views)
Tasted by NostraBacchus on 4/4/2020 & rated 94 points: Deep golden color. Super aromatic, with notes of exotic fruit (pineapple, mango), but also some citrus notes, smokey notes, notes of petroleum showing some signs of its age, also some orange zest and apricot, honey, and an almost creamy and buttery note. There is also an almost saline mineral note. It‘s medium-full bodied, creamy, relatively sweet, but beautifully balanced with medium-high acidity that adds a lot tension. Long finish with plenty of complexity. Wow this is really good. Showing even better on day 2. (973 views)
Tasted by Caruso on 3/24/2019 & rated 88 points: Deep golden colour. Peach, mango, brown sugar and yes, utterly delicious, okay, but also a bit simple as well. This has great concentration, high sugar levels, enough acidity to balance the sweetness, but it hasn't enough of anything else. First of all it lacks complexity and tension. My scores on this wine cover a range from very good to outstanding, but I have to admit that at this point my more sceptical scores are right. I don't believe that this is going to have a positive future. Maybe in textbook cellars this is going to hold through some more years. Don't get me wrong, it is yummy and concentrated, but in lack of that nuances and its elegance that once was there. Or maybe it is just another bottle that is a low performer. 5/11/16/6. After this experience I can only advice to drink it up. -2019 (512 views)
Tasted by ubercuvee on 5/6/2018 & rated 95 points: Utterly delicious, lots of quince and spice notes - quite a lot of body. In the window (745 views)
Tasted by Caruso on 3/3/2017 & rated 93 points: light golden, some botrytis notes, but that can't be true. Peach, tropical fruits, caramel, everything more nuanced and complex than the last bottle in May 2016. Though quite sweet, it shows enough acidity to balance the sweetness. Smooth and nearly oily mouth feel. In a cool cellar this will hold through the next decade, maybe longer, but why wait? (889 views)
Tasted by Caruso on 5/22/2016 & rated 88 points: straw. Somewhat perplexing. There is enough concentration, but where is the complexity? Where is poise, balance? The high sugar level is dominant. On the young side or not living up to my expectations? (995 views)
Tasted by NostraBacchus on 3/17/2016 & rated 93 points: Golden color. Intense notes of smoke/botrytis, brown sugar, sweet spices, pineapple, mango and some citrus. It's medium-full bodied with creamy richness, but has refreshingly high lazer-sharp acidity and a pretty long, complex finish. So glad I bought this. A very unique and beautifully rich Spätlese with a lot of tension. I would try to pair this with foie gras and let the sweetness support the flavor and the acidity cut right through the richness of the dish. (93+) (1584 views)
Tasted by Caruso on 4/21/2011 & rated 94 points: another great effort. How will it age? Have a close look. The 2005 was beginning to hit its peak 1-2 years ago and is now passing away. But most Rieslaner Spätlese vintages have aged beautiful for 7+ years. (2352 views)

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)
