Community Tasting Notes (average 91.8 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 123 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by sethm on 6/3/2021 & rated 92 points: Something fun that was shared at the end of our dinner party. Maybe a little tired and it didn't matter. Fantastic and enjoyable. (1072 views)
Tasted by jhngo on 4/29/2021 & rated 85 points: sweet with dry finish. (1055 views)
Tasted by vinolovers on 9/26/2020 flawed bottle: lots of seepage around cork when the foil was removed. Two of four bottles purchased showed signs of excessive heat exposure. (1211 views)
Tasted by winepaw on 12/1/2019 & rated 93 points: Still drinking beautifully. Deep gold color. Lush nose of dried stone fruit. Apricot and honey on the palate. Excellent pairing with Thanksgiving roast turkey and wild rice/sausage stuffing. (1591 views)
Tasted by John Nezlek on 11/24/2019 & rated 90 points: Note: I use a scale on which 85 represents a very good wine.

Still kickin'. Last bottle of this I had was 8 years ago.
Tastes were a little less pronounced and full than before, but still excellent.
Opened p meaningfully through the bottle. I will open the next one 30 min in advance (two left). (1515 views)
Tasted by vinolovers on 10/5/2019 & rated 95 points: Unlike the first 2 bottles (see previous note) this one was wonderful. The cork did break while extracting from the bottle. Poured to a golden color. Very rich more so than sweet, very smooth with great mouth feel. Notes of apricot, peach and honeycomb harmoniously knit together. Paired with a spicy grilled chicken dish (think Indian) which it handled with great aplomb. (891 views)
Tasted by David J Cooper on 5/25/2019 & rated 92 points: Clear bright amber. Rich dairy and petrol nose, opens up to dried apricot, spice stone notes. Slightly sweet stone fruit and spice flavours with a rich spicy slightly sweet finish. (1163 views)
Tasted by vinolovers on 4/21/2019 & rated 89 points: Served 2 bottles. Bottle 1 had a funky looking cork when the foil was cut but had a nice pop when pulled. Poured to a golden coloring. Hints of apricot, honey and a brief petrol note. Fairly sweet.
Bottle 2 was almost brown colored, but had a similar taste profile to bottle 1. (very strange looking but tasted ok). (974 views)
Tasted by juffer on 1/4/2019 & rated 93 points: I served this in my wine course (again). Spicy apricot nose. Rich mouth. Still drinking well with the residual sugar well in check with plenty of spice and acidity.

P.S. Good match with garlicky sautéed zucchini. (922 views)
Tasted by ledwards on 7/13/2018 & rated 91 points: Evolving nicely. Dry in style with a kiss of sugar on the mid palate. Apricots and stone dust. (1286 views)
Tasted by bspahn on 12/31/2017 & rated 90 points: Much sweeter than I expected but quite delicious. Lots of viscosity with acidity to match. No reason to wait. Serve well chilled. (1576 views)
Tasted by Hamersly on 12/6/2017 & rated 92 points: Still drinking very well. Off dry with honeyed apricots and a not-unpleasant whiff of diesel. Lovely medium long finish. Becomes a bit hard as it approaches room temperature, I’d drink this within the next couple of years. (1498 views)
Tasted by Bellissimo on 8/23/2017: Brought to a dinner, shared with friends. Past peak I'm afraid to say. Liked the weight and nose but on the palate seemed a bit tired with hints of what it was. (1840 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 8/5/2017 & rated 92 points: Sadly my last.
Drunk at the edge of its plateau of excellence. Exotic jungle and pineapple fruits, off-dry - and with this bottle the return of a hint of riesling-like old age diesel. Minerality, decent acidity and great length.
Drink up soon and enjoy. (1809 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 5/21/2017 & rated 93 points: As per my November 2016 note.
Superb but for drinking up. (1780 views)
Tasted by winepaw on 5/12/2017 & rated 93 points: Deep gold color. Rich, slightly off-dry, dried apricot, honey. Still drinking very well. (1444 views)
Tasted by overhill on 2/23/2017 & rated 92 points: Dull and syrupy on the first night. Fireworks by the third night. Once it opened up, I got creamy pears, nut loaf, burnt banana peel, and sea shell. Some clear secondary notes compared to previous tasting five years ago. Delicious.

Probably best to drink in the next 5 years. (2203 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 2/5/2017 & rated 92 points: Sunday dinner at home with family. Two bottles drunk with our rolled pork belly stuffed with soft prunes, apricots and sumac.
The first bottle was in peak condition; its focussed pineapple side to the fore, core acidity and minerality for balance with a long off-dry finish. The second bottle, while still excellent, was less defined and concentrated showing distinct signs of age. 93 & 91pts respectively.
Will drink my remaining 4 bottles this year before age overtakes them. (1362 views)
Tasted by ecola on 12/13/2016 & rated 93 points: Still drinking great. Smooth on the palate with melon, honey, apricot flavors. Acidity is surprisingly lively. Very long finish. (1345 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 11/27/2016 & rated 93 points: This was another bottle in absolutely A1 condition. Little sign of age other than a deeper than normal hue.
Showing the full exotic fruit range; physalis, aromatic melon and various jungle fruits. Off-dry. Balanced with a good acidity and significant core minerality. Serving decently chilled also adds to the overall balance and concentration.
At the end of its plateau and showing bottle variation (if 92 and 93pt variations are considered a problem!!). Superb. (1217 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 9/30/2016 flawed bottle: Plenty of wines at Pine Lake Trout Club (Pine Lake Trout Club): Sadly corked. Not terrible and more on the nose. It is slightly sweet but there is a lot of wine, so we move on. (2017 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 8/14/2016 & rated 92 points: Continues to drink beautifully. Masses of exotic aromatic jungle fruit, touch of viscosity; off-dry but with enough core acidity to balance. Only its deepish colour and a smidgen of riesling-like diesel betray its age. Serve decently chilled for optimum enjoyment. For food.
For drinking up over the next couple of years. (1324 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 6/22/2016 & rated 92 points: Continues to impress; a perfect accompaniment with smoked meats, fois gras etc etc. Reading others' notes I've been lucky with my case as quite a few are reporting oxidised bottles.
While I would happy put another couple of years age on my bottles I doubt that the wine will actually improve - so drink up and caveat emptor! Glorious when in good nick. (1469 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 4/24/2016 & rated 93 points: Over six months since my last noted bottle and remains exactly as earlier narratives. Wonderful with our roast pork.
Superb. (1541 views)
Tasted by Neurowine1 on 3/14/2016 & rated 81 points: Thick clumsy and a bit alcoholic. Not my style. A bit past its prime with a hint of oxidation. (1678 views)

Pinot Gris

From Pinot Gris Wikipedia entry:
Wines made from the Pinot gris vary greatly and are dependent on the region and wine making style they are from. Alsatian Pinot gris are medium to full bodied wines with a rich, somewhat floral bouquet. They tend to be spicy in comparisons with other Pinot gris. While most Pinot gris are meant to be consumed early, Alsatian Pinot gris can age well. German Pinot gris are more full-bodied with a balance of acidity and slight sweetness. In Oregon the wines are medium bodied with a yellow to copper-pink color and aromas of pear, apple, and/or melon. In California, the Pinot gris are more light bodied with a crisp, refreshing taste with some pepper and arugula notes. The Pinot grigio style of Italy is a light-bodied, often lean wine that is light in color with sometimes spritzy flavors that can be crisp and acidic. Although this wine can be very sweet, it will begin to lose its acidity when it is nearly ripe.

Pinot gris is considered an "early to market wine" that can be bottled and out on the market within 4–12 weeks after fermentation.
